Design and Measurement of Nano-pattern for FIB Reliability Assessment (FIB 신뢰성 평가를 위한 나노패턴의 설계 및 측정)

  • Fm (Focused ion beam) system is one of the most important equipments for the nano-scale machining. Various researches have been performed, since it can etch the material and deposit 3-D structure with high-aspect-ratio in the nanometer scale. In spite of those researches, the definite method for the reliability of FIB system has not been reported. In this paper, we proposed the reliability assessment method through nano-pattern fabrication. In the fabricated nano-pattern, the characteristics of FIB system are included. Using this effect, we tried to assess the FIB reliability. First, we suggested reliability assessment items and nano-patterns. And, to know the suitableness of the proposed method, we fabricated several nano-patterns using Nova200(FEI Company) and SMI2050(SEIKO) which are FIB apparatuses. The fabricated nano-patterns are measured with SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) and compared with designed dimensions. And the compared results showed that the proposed method is suitable for the assessment of FIB system reliability.

  • In this paper, we propose a new scalable and reliable combat system software in battleship which was developed procedurally in the past. Recently, combat system software is required to change frequently due to addition of new equipment and change of function. To solve those problems, this paper propose how to change combat system software into scalable software using class structure change and design pattern. Simulation results show that our scheme provides better performances and reliability than conventional scheme. Therefore proposed scheme can be efficiently used in Naval combat system.

A Comparison of Reliability Factors of Software Reliability Model Following Lifetime Distribution Dependent on Pareto and Erlang Shape Parameters (파레토 및 어랑 형상모수에 의존한 수명분포를 따르는 소프트웨어 신뢰성 모형에 대한 신뢰도 특성요인 비교 연구)

  • Software reliability is one of the most elementary and important problems in software development In order to find the software failure occurrence, the instantaneous failure rate function in the Poisson process can have a constant, incremental or decreasing tendency independently of the failure time. In this study, we compared the reliability performance of the software reliability model using the parameters of Pareto life distribution with the intensity decreasing pattern and the shape parameter of Erlang life distribution with the intensity increasing and decreasing pattern in the software product testing. In order to identify the software failure environment, the parametric estimation was applied to the maximum likelihood estimation method. Therefore, in this paper, we compare and evaluate software reliability by applying software failure time data. The reliability of the Erlang and Pareto life models is shown to be higher than that of the Pareto lifetime distribution model when the shape parameter is higher and the Erlang model is more reliable when the shape parameter is higher. Through this study, the software design department will be able to help the software design by applying various life distribution and shape parameters, and providing basic knowledge using software failure analysis.

  • This study involves an experiment for the cognitive experiment design and the human reliability in software engineering. Its overall objectives are to analyze common-cause human domain error and reliability in human-software interaction. A laboratory study was performed to analyze software engineers' task behavior in software production and to identify software design factors contributing to the effects in common cause failure redundancy. Common-cause model and its function were developed, then the main experiment using programming experts was conducted in order to define a new cognitive paradigm, in the aspects of identification, pattern recognition, and behavior domain for human reliability and quality control in software development. The results and analytical procedures developed in this research can be applied to reliability improvement and cost reduction in software development for many applications. Results are also expected to provide guidelines for software engineering quality control and for more effective design of human-software interface system.

  • This paper propose Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry(ESPI) for reliability evaluation of electronic device. Especially, vibration problem in a fan of air conditioner, motor of washing machine and etc. is important factor to design the devices. However, it is difficult to apply previous method, accelerometer to the devices with lightweight and complex geometry. ESPI, non-contact measurement technique is applied for vibration analysis of a sirocco fan inside air conditioner. Vibration mode shapes, natural frequency and the range of the frequency are decided and compared with that of FEM analysis. In mechanical deign of new product, ESPI is able to supply effective design information.

Improvement of an Early Failure Rate By Using Neural Control Chart

  • Even though the impact of manufacturing quality to reliability is not considered much as well as that of design area, a major cause of an early failure of the product is known as manufacturing problem. This research applies two different types of neural network algorithms, the Back propagation (BP) algorithm and Learning Vector Quantization (LVQ) algorithm, to identify and classify the nonrandom variation pattern on the control chart based on knowledge-based diagnosis of dimensional variation. The performance and efficiency of both algorithms are evaluated to choose the better pattern recognition system for auto body assembly process. To analyze hundred percent of the data obtained by Optical Coordinate Measurement Machine (OCMM), this research considers an application in which individual observations rather than subsample means are used. A case study for analysis of OCMM data in underbody assembly process is presented to demonstrate the proposed knowledge-based pattern recognition system.

  • Purpose: PBA buried in underwater requires high reliability because of its mission critical characteristic and harsh operational environment during its life cycle. Therefore, various reliability improvement activities are necessary. The defect on PBA manufacturing process have been studied, as a result, many activities and standards have been presented. However, there are less studies regarding failure pattern on physical features based on design. In this paper, we studied a possible failure patten based on physical features that is related with manufacturing process of PBA. And reliability improvement design based on PoF (Physical of Failure) were intruduced in this paper. Methods: A reliability prediction simulation were performed on the components A and B of the H system using Sherlock Software which is a PoF commercial tool from DFR solution. Solder fatigue and PTH fatigue analysis based on thermal cycling profiles and random vibration was analyzed on three earthquake response spectrum. Result: It was validated that life time and reliability improvement design through solder fatigue and PTH fatigue analysis in case of component. For compoenet B, random vibration fatigue was additionally analyzed and validated reliability for earthquakes profile. Conclusion: In design stage prior to manufacturing, PoF can be analyzed, and it is possible to make a reliability improvement/validated design using design data. This study can be applied in every design step and contribute to make more stable development product.

Reliability-based condition assessment of a deteriorated concrete bridge

  • In the existing bridge management systems, assessment of the structural behavior is based on the results of visual inspections in which corresponding condition states are assigned to individual elements. In this process, limited attention is given to the correlation between bridge elements from structural perspective. Also, the uncertainty of parameters which affect the structural capacity is ignored. A system reliability-based assessment model is potentially an appropriate replacement for the existing procedures. The aim of this research is to evaluate the system reliability of existing conventional Steel-Reinforced bridge decks over time. The developed method utilizes the reliability theory and evaluates the structural safety for such bridges based on their failure mechanisms. System reliability analysis has been applied to simply-supported concrete bridge superstructures designed according to the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC-S6) and the deterioration pattern is achieved based on the reliability estimates. Finally, the bridge condition index of an old existing bridge in Montreal has been estimated using the developed deterioration pattern. The results obtained from the developed reliability-based deterioration model and from the evaluation done by bridge engineers have been found to be in accordance.

  • Development of launch vehicle needs a large-scale and complicated System Engineering discipline interfacing to small-quantity production with special manufacturing processes. In general, the System Engineering discipline of launch vehicle has its relationship with Production, Operations, Product Assurance and Management disciplines and its internal partitions into the functions of System Engineering Integration & Control, Requirements Engineering, Analysis, Design and Configuration and Verification. As a function of Product Assurance, reliability of launch vehicle plays an significant role in risk management, system safety, flight safety and launch certification through design assurance. Moreover, major functions of systems engineering are integrated by means of reliability in the phases of design and verification. Therefore, derailed identification of system engineering interfaces of reliability, and execution of tasks for reliability assurance is required for successful development of launch vehicle. This paper identifies specific pattern and mechanism of the interfaces between reliability and system engineering.

  • In this paper, the capability index is introduced in order to improve the reliability of new concept machine tools and the method to improve the machine accuracy from the analysis of cutting process, statistical methodology and influence factors are proposed. In addition, the rib structure of bed and column in machine tools is analyzed by using the thermal impact method in order to analogize the rib pattern which has the small thermal deformation under thermal boundary condition. In the analysis of column rib structure, thermal boundary condition is separated to heat conduction and heat transfer to appropriate real boundary condition. Finally, performance chart of bed and column rib structure is provided for designer to estimate each rib pattern and select rib structure appropriating to thermal condition.
