This study aimed to propose a fashion design development method using the external and internal characteristics of the flower and bird paintings in traditional Korean folk paintings. As a research method, external and internal characteristics of folk paintings were examined through previous studies and literature research, and folk painting patterns were developed into digital textile designs. Five 3D digital fashion designs were proposed using the CLO 3D program. The external characteristics of folk paintings were as follows: simplification and planarization of object representation, diversification of viewpoints, ignorance of perspective and symmetrical enumeration, strong colors and contrast effects, and the simultaneous representation of time. The internal characteristics of folk paintings were as follows: symbolic meaning, the beauty of free humor, modest aesthetics, complexity of reality and fantasy, and desire of shamanism. The results are as follows. Firstly, the flower and bird painting was a decorative painting style that emphasized decorative beauty and was suitable for developing fashion designs with Korean originality because of the symbolic and internal meanings. Simple layouts and bold free-spirited representations were effective ways to fill the screen with objects and gave the pattern a decorative effect. Secondly, developing a virtual clothing prototype based on digital design method using the external and internal characteristics of folk paintings and producing realistic fashion designs suggest the integrated use of science and technology, embodying modern fashion through the combination of digital fashion content and traditional cultural content. Thirdly, as a result of the development of 3D digital fashion designs, an eco-friendly and sustainable fashion design methods with virtual clothing can suggest a design development method that saves time and cost in the fashion design process while considering the environment.

In today's man's domestic environments, the development of furnishings in their various shapes and functions is as complex as human lives. Architecture, Interior, and Furniture, each one of these have the relationship closer and closer to the direct human environments. In this study, by choosing the theme of sitting , the transformation of man's behavioral models would be examined in sociological terms. By viewing the chair as an emblematic objects made for more than just sitting, the chair has revealed the relations of man with his environment since the history of furnishings began. Qualified architects and designers know that chairs are no longer the objects, but the primary subject of furnishings. Through this examination of the emblematic typologies of periodic chairs in the history of the Western culture, in terms of their relationships with politics , religions, monarchies, societies, and etc., the meaning of the designs could be find and which could be the resolutions for the future innovative design. These refound or recreated meanings in the history of design could create another typology for the future reality.

The purpose of this study is to analyze consumer's lifestyle, needs and preferences and design trends for planning of the future apartment interior design. Recently, social change such as computerization, industrialization, pluralism and globalization has been braught lots of changes to modern housing spaces. The meaning of ‘Family’ and ‘Residence’ has been diversified by various life-style of modern family. Therefore, the new concept of residence is needed to change for the future housing plans and satisfy their sophisticated needs and preferences considering modern family's lifestyle and life-span. This research was conducted through the questionaire-survey, taste style survey by show card, and focus group interview(F.G.I) for investigating consumer's life style and tastes. Through this research, four-types of consumer's lifestyle were classified by analyzing data and special spaces such as family-room, media room, interior planted-space, and men's room were needed to consider interior space planning. This study shows that the planning of storage space, flexible space, livingroom and multi-used space will be more important in apartment interior space.

Scandinavian countries have hold tradition shared historically and culturally in common, brought the weighty traditional thoughts enabled to develop their unique culture. Since 1940s, Scandinavian design could pervade with affectionate forms and practical effectiveness with worldwide popularity. It was brought by creation of new and useful forms for the convenience in life, functionalism but not bounded by fashion of it. This study tried into the meaning of their history of modern furnishings design based on the development background of furnishings design, its trends, designers and their work focused around Sweden, Finland, and Denmark. Scandinavian furnishings is a functional furnishings reconciled to natural material and human life exactly correspond to the taste of the generation unrestricted from the tradition of contemporary and compact design preference or classic favored preference. The practicality and exquisite techniques of Scandinavian furnishings lies within the realm of possibility for studiously love of the world.

We can see various cultural elements appeared in modern fashion, of which Korean traditional cultural elements are being reinterpreted in many different ways. This study is to analyse on the basis of togetherness concept Korean traditional elements, which have been considered difficult to interpret by postmodernism and find the ways how to carry on our traditional culture practically in order to prepare the foundation for globalization of our tradition. Togetherness means 'with' or 'simultaneously', which also conveys the meaning of common cause and result, addition and annex, opposition and juxtaposition, or accumulation and integration. Characteristics of the togetherness appeared in Korean fashion are as follows. First of all, it shows the aspect of mixing and integration of different cultural fashion elements around the globe, which have been made possible in the course of globalization and development of information technology. The second characteristic is crossing and synchronization, which means that many different individual fashion elements in terms of time and space are being crossed over and integrated these days. Thirdly, continuation meaning 'without cease' and 'keep going' shows that togetherness is to create a whole new fashion trend by mixing postmodern revivalism and past clothing elements. Togetherness makes it possible for us to find reasons why tradition aspects are expressed so vividly in the modern clothing, gives us a standard to classify the reasons, establishes an identity and offers theoretical background for globalization of traditional clothing in the course of modernization of our tradition.

To enhance the acceleration performance and fuel consumption rate of a vehicle, the torque converter is modified or newly-developed with reliable analysis model. Up to recently, the one dimensional performance model has been used for the analysis and design of torque converter. The model is described with constant parameters based on the concept of mean flow path. When it is used in practice, some experiential correction factors are needed to minimize tole estimated error. These factors have poor physical meaning and cannot be applied confidently to the other specification of torque converter. In this study, the detail dynamic model of torque converter is presented to establish the physical meaning of correction factors. To verify the validity of model, performance test was carried out with various input speed and oil temperature. The effect of oil temperature on the performance is analysed, and it is applied to the dynamic model. And, to obtain the internal flow pattern of torque converter, CFD(Computational Fluid Dyanmics) analysis is carried out on three-dimensional turbulent flow. Correction factors are determined from the internal flow pattern, and their variation is presented with the speed ratio of torque converter. Finally, the sensitivity of correction factors to the speed ratio is studied for the case of changing capacity factor with maintaining torque ratio.

'Pattern' is of very unique nature in each and every country around the world, and its aesthetic feeling of 'pattern' has been handed down according to its nationality and cultural development process. That is, 'pattern' is ornament to symbolize each country's aesthetic standard or choice through some shape, reflecting social consciousness or religion philosophy. Mostly based upon literature survey and case study, this survey paper analytically compares oriental botanical pattern with occidental botanical figure, which has been influenced by Buddhism-Confucianism and Christian religion respectively. The results show that some patterns are commonly used in both area, while meaning differently in some cases: lotus (life), pomegranate (wealth and prosperity in orient, resurrection in occident), grape (fecundity in orient, wealth in occident), dangcho (fecundity in orient, victory in occident). And the other patterns look uniquely used either just in orient or only in occident. For instance, oriental area had its own patterns such as peony (meaning wealth and honour), peach (longevity), ume flower (happiness), orchid (fecundity); while occidental area used lily (purity), olive (peace), palm (victory), and so on. Interestingly, the botanical patterns were used as main patterns in orient whereas as minor in occident.

The purpose of this study is to link traditional patterns to mordern clothing. Of all the traditional patterns, the fish pattern was chosen for use during the development of a creative one-piece design for woman and shirts design for man. This study is based upon document searches, including research papers. Through these searches, it investigates the symbolic meaning, formation of the fish pattern and the creative design process. Based on this investigation, the study attempts to modernize the fish pattern and apply the fish patterns to the design of a one-piece dress and shirts. The design procedure includes three sub-processes: selection, arrangement and color-scheme. The selection process, the form of the pattern was edited using Adobe Photoshop. The arrangement of the pattern was made through the checklist conception method, containing the following functions: expand, reset, repeat, omission and dismantling. For the color-scheme of the pattern, Paul Klee(1879-1940)work was selected, and the colors in his work were adopted when dyeing the rest of the one-piece dress and shirts as well as fish features. In conclusion, six designs of the one-pieces dress and shirts were created by using one of Korea's traditional patterns-the fish pattern. This kind of study not only let the world know about the unique beauty of nations but also helps to inspire people who has a profession in design, by suggesting design development process based on design competitiveness improvement factor from fusion of tradition and modern.

Geometrical figures have been used as artwork motifs from the ancient times to the present day. The area of fashion, being a part of modern art, is also largely influenced by geometry and geometrical shapes are being used as a motif for fashion design now more than ever before. However, studies about geometry in the fashion field are not yet done enough and further research is necessary. This research will therefore investigate the usages of round, square and triangular design in contemporary fashion. The main scope of this research is to look at the type of expression and analyze the intrinsic meanings of these shapes in modern fashion. This research will look profoundly into the general characteristics of these geometrical figures and analyze the effects and uniqueness found in the world collection introduced since 2007. As a result from this study, it was found that round and square objects were perceived in such a straightforward and positive way and these designs, when worn, really completed the final look. On the other hand, the triangular design was used mainly for spatial expansion and was interpreted in a more metaphorical, indirect and abstract way. The intrinsic meaning of round, square and triangle figures in contemporary fashion consists of the informal features that really steps out of the formative clothing structure. The topological changes that is formed from the interactive functions and the wholism that creates a new system through integration of the human body and clothing contains the intrinsic meaning of these geometrical figures. Based on the research results, the method of expression and the characteristics of modern day fashion's geometrical figures was able to be easily understood. This work provides the useful information on the development of fashion design and the extended interpretation of clothing structure.

The aim of this study is to find out directions for development of soundscape design for creating a unique sound culture in a region, and to search for the practical strategies toward a soundscape design movement in Korea. For these specific aims, several components in soundscape through considering from original conception and ideology of soundscape, such as the concept of soundscape, the meaning of soundscape design, the categories of soundscape researh : keynote sounds, sound signals, and soundmarks, and the primary problems and strategies in the world soundscape project(WSP) are investigated. The result shows that it is necessary to practice several ways in our housing life, that is, the recovery of our coenesthesia, development of the residential environments considering the soundscape, revitalization of community consciousness, rehabilitation of the sensibility, and identity excavation of sound culture, and it is very important to spread out a plan for integrating the following four categories of strategies : conceptual, educational, political, and social.
