Numerical Study of Important Factors for a Vortex Shedder using Automated Design Cycle

  • The good performance of a vortex shedder is defined by strong and stable vortex generated under the condition of most linearity in Strouhal number and low power loss. In this paper, the flow past a bluff body of circular cylinder with a slit normal to the flow has been analyzed focusing on drag coefficient, linearity of Strouhal number and flow resistance (K-factor). The ANSYS/FLUENT package is used for flow simulation and the integration method of computational code to iSIGHT platform is employed for automated design cycle. This study results the design with (0.20~0.267) blockage ratio and 0.10 slit ratio as the best shedder for vortex flowmeter and this results are in well agreement with the experiment. As the combination of GAMBIT, FLUENT, and iSIGHT substitutes the design parameters automatically according to the input data, this method designs effectively the vortex shedder with less design cycle time and low manufacturing cost eliminating the human intervention bottleneck.

  • An issue of globalized and competitive business environment is a transformation of manufacturing strategy for rapidly product development. To copy with these trends, building up a market from various product is becoming conspicuous the core strategy of manufacture. Therefore, it is increasing of necessity for the environment of collaborative product development. As a part of corresponding for these demands, we propose the method that allows easy and rapid integration of legacy resources within the company and between departments. The proposed framework can easily construct a distributed environment for collaborative design between departments in the companies. It was implemented using CO/sup TM/ based on DOME (Distributed Object-based Modeling Environment) that is knowledge based engineering solution.

Design Optimization of Dental Implants Using Finite Element Analysis for Injecting Bioactive Materials

  • In order to improve osseointegration of dental implants with bone we studied an implant with holes inside its body to deliver bioactive materials based on a proposed patent. Bioactive materials can be selectively applied through holes to a patient according to diagnosis and the integration progress. After the bioactive material is applied, bone can grow into the holes to increase implant bonding and also enhance surface integration. In order to improve the concept and study the effect of bioactive material injection on implant integration, design optimization and integration research were undertaken utilizing the finite element method. A 2-dimensional simulation study showed that when bone grew into the holes after the bioactive material was injected, stress vertically distributed in the upper part of the implant was relieved and mild stress appeared at the opening of the injection holes. This confirmed the effect of the bioactive material and the contribution of the injection holes, but the maximum stress increased ten-fold at the opening. In order to reduce the maximum stress, the size, location, and the number of holes were varied and the effects were studied. When bioactive materials formed an interface layer between the implant and the mandible and four holes were filled with cortical and cancellous bones all the stress concentrated opposite to the loading side without holes disappeared. The stresses at the four outlets of the holes was mildly elevated but the maximum stress value was ten-fold greater compared to the case without the bioactive material.

  • This paper describes a design and implementation of monitoring applications on shipboard integration network. A wrapping module is designed to reuse pre-developed communication library of shipboard integration network. By using the wrapping module, monitoring applications are also designed to display several kinds of shipboard data. They are implemented and tested on general PC and embedded PC to verify that they can be applicable to different platforms.

An Empirical Study about the Impacts of Object-Oriented Diagrams On the Inter-Organizational Process Integration (객체지향 다이어그램을 이용한 기업간 프로세스의 통합에 관한 실증적 연구)

  • Recently, as the importance placed on the design phase of system development has increased, the use of diagrams to design the overall system before implementing the actual program code has seen a proportionate increase. This study focuses on the diverse diagrams depicting organizational processes when integrating multiple processes of individual organizations to form an Inter-Organizational System(IOS). In this study, we attempt to identify the critical representation features of process diagrams that enable the effective integration of Inter-Organizational processes. In particular, the effect of the mapping relationship between the representation features of different diagrams to be integrated was tested empirically in a laboratory setting. The experimental task consisted of integrating the processes of two organization based upon the given process diagrams. Actual business processes were selected from real world cases and process diagrams were formulated based upon existing object-oriented notation. An analysis of the errors committed by the subjects during the integration process indicated that the mapping relationship between the diagram features representing the respective organizational processes had a significant impact upon the final integration outcome. Based upon these results, the present study provides a guideline for process diagrams that are crucial to effective Inter-Organizational process implementation and maintenance.

Effects of a Group Counseling Integration Program on Self-determination and Internet Addiction in High School Students with Tendency to Internet Addiction (인터넷중독 집단상담통합프로그램이 인터넷중독경향 고등학생의 자기결정성과 인터넷중독에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: In this study the effects of a Group Counseling Integration Program for students with a tendency to internet addiction were examined. Methods: Thirty-seven students who were in a vocational high school in G city participated in a survey, which was carried out from October 12 to November 12, 2009. To test the effects of the Group Counseling Integration Program, the participants were divided into two groups, an experimental group (18) and a control group (19). The research design used in this study was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized pre-posttest quasi-experimental research design. The research tools included a self-determination scale and an internet addiction scale. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test, t-test, and ANCOVA with the SPSS/WIN 14.0 program. Results: Significant differences were found in self-determination scores and internet addiction scores between the experimental group and the control group (F=5.99, p=.020) (t=-2.53, p=.016). Conclusion: The results indicate that Group Counseling Integration Programs are an effective nursing intervention for improving self-determination and decreasing internet addiction in students with a tendency to internet addiction.

The Correlation of Crime-Prone Locations with the Urban Space Configuration in Residential District (도시 가로구조에 의한 장소적 특성과 범죄와의 상관관계에 관한 연구 - B시 단독주거지 사례를 중심으로 -)

  • This study examines the correlations of crime-prone locations with the urban space configuration in residential district. CPTED(Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) is applied to this study and it is intended to control the architectural environment in order to restrain criminal activities. For this reason, an objective analysis for explaining the spatial characteristics of the places where the crimes have occurred is more important than statistical and descriptive approach for analyzing the criminal data. Visibility graph analysis (VGA) supports the CPTED theory in this study for objective interpretation of crime-prone locations and quantitative analysis for built environment. The comparative analysis on object streets and areas are used and the results are followings. The analysis by streets showed that street crimes are correlated with connectivity, control, integration, and integration(r=3) and burglary cases are correlated with control. The analysis by areas showed that street crimes are correlated with connectivity and integration. The T-tests results of crime area and whole area showed that street crimes are correlated with integration and burglary cases have negative correlation with connectivity. Several localized environmental design for crime prevention are also proposed on the basis of this study.

4S-Van: A Prototype Mobile Mapping System for GIS

  • The design of Graphic Information System(GIS) in various applications is suffering from the difficulty of data acquisition, which is labor-intensive and time consuming. In order to provide the spatial data rapidly and accurately, 4S-Van, a prototype mobile mapping system, has been developed. The 4S-Van consists of 1)Global Positioning System(GPS), Inertial Navigation System(INS) for estimating the geographic position and attitude of the moving van, i.e.,(x, y, z) and the direction of the Van, 2) Charge Coupled Device(CCD) camera and laser scanner for capturing images and for measuring depth from geographic objects, and 3) External Synchronization Device(ESD) and industrial PC for synchronizing data from GPS/INS/CCD camera and for storing the data. In this paper, we present the design and implementation of the proto-Dpe 4S-Van system for spatial data acquisition for various GIS applications.
