This paper presents a feature-based approach to extracting machining features fro a feature-based design model. In the approach, a design feature to machining feature conversion process incrementally converts each added design feature into a machining feature or a set of machining features. The proposed approach an efficiently handle protrusion features and interacting features since it takes advantage of design feature information, design intent, and functional requirements during feature extraction. Protrusion features cannot be directly mapped into machining features so that the removal volumes surrounding protrusion features are extracted and converted it no machining features. By utilizing feature information as well as geometry information during feature extraction, the proposed approach can easily overcome inherent problems relating to feature recognition such as feature interactions and loss of design intent. In addition, a feature extraction process can be simplified, and a large set of complex part can be handled with ease.

The purpose of this study is to analyze relations between digital characteristics and formative features of fashion design in digital era, to find out the best way to make desirable clothes in the future affected by digital characteristics. The methods of this study are documentary research of previous studies and case study. For the study of formative features of fashion design, 100 kinds of pictures have been selected from photographs in fashion magazines, professional books and internet sites. In the theoretical study, digital characteristics are limitless repetition, compressibility, interactivity, ease of deformation and mobility. And formative features of digital design are plasticity & geometry, assemblage, joints & connections, transparency and deformation. The results of analysis are as follow. Formative features of fashion design in digital era are classified nonlinearity, variability and hybrid. There are organic relations between digital characteristics and formative features of fashion design as well as between digital characteristics and formative features of digital design. Also, there is significant similarity between formative features of digital design and formative features of fashion design in digital era.

In this paper , we propose an incremental approach for recognizing a class of machining features from a featurebased design model as a part design proceeds, utilizing various information such as nominal geometry, design intents, and design feature characteristics. The proposed apptroach can handle complex intersecting features and protrusion features designed on oblique faces. The class of recognized volumetric machining features can be expressed as Material Removal Shape Element Volumes (MRSEVs), a PDES/STEP-based library of machining features.
This study aims to develop a hanbok design method in response to recent changes in consumption trends that emphasize new aesthetic and cultural values, which contrast with the existing cultural order and repetitive normative styles in fashion designing. With this in mind, our study explores the main features of deconstruction fashion design as a theoretical guide for developing a methodology for deconstruction hanbok design, on the basis of which new, experimental and creative hanbok design works can be produced. To do this, we first investigate current trends in hanbok design and changing concepts of Korean fashion design through literature review of previous studies. Secondly, we explore deconstructionism and analyze its features to lay down the foundation for a post-modern approach in hanbok design. As the result of analysis, the main features of deconstruction fashion design are summarized as the following: 1) non-finishing, 2) decomposing and recomposing, 3) recycling, 4) transparent, 5) grunge, 6) flattening, and 7) exaggeration. Based on the identified core features of deconstruction fashion design, we develop a creative method of hanbok design in the context of modern Korean fashion design. Finally, we show five design outputs via a 3D digital fashion design process using the CLO3D software program.

Producing the relevant information (features) from the CAD models of CAM, called feature recognition or extraction, is the essential stage for the integration of CAD and CAM. Most feature recognition methods, however, have problems in the recognition of intersecting features because they do not handle the intersection geometry properly. In this paper, we propose a machining feature recognition algorithm, which has a solid model consisting of orthogonal primitives as input. The algorithm calculates candidate features and constitutes the Intersection Geometry Matrix which is necessary to represent the spatial relation of candidate features. Finally, it recognizes machining features from the proposed candidate features dividing and growing systems using half space and Boolean operation. The algorithm has the following characteristics: Though the geometry of part is complex due to the intersections of design primitives, it can recognize the necessary machining features. In addition, it creates the Maximal Feature Volumes independent of the machining sequences at the feature recognition stage so that it can easily accommodate the change of decision criteria of machining orders.

Although feature-based design is a promising approach to fully integrating CAD/CAM, current feature-based design approaches seldom provide methodologies to easily define and design features. This paper proposes a new approach to integrating parametric design with feature-based design to overcome those limitations by globally decomposing a design into a set of features and locally defining and positioning each feature by geometric constraints. Each feature is defined as a parametric shape which consists of a feature section, attributes, and a set of constraints. The generalized sketching and sweeping techniques are used to simplify the process of designing features. The proposed approach is knowledge-based and its computational efficiency in geometric reasoning is improved greatly. Parametrically designed features not only have the advantage of allowing users to efficiently perform design changes, but also provide designers with a natural design environment in which they can do their work more naturally and creatively.

A greater number of persons with disabilities including an increasing number of aging population has brought concerns on diversity and equality in use of products and environments. Universal design concepts have been introduced rapidly and widely in the built environments in Korea. The purpose of this study was to analyze a model house built in 2006, in the U.S. as a universal design home, systematically examine the universal design model house features, and explore possibility of application of the universal design features in the U.S. into a Korean setting. For this study, site analysis and contents analysis methods were used. Although housing norm, behavioral patterns and environmental contexts would be different, majority of universal design features appeared in the model house were expected to apply. Overall universal design features in the model house sought for attractive, comfort, convenient and safe environment with a little cost. Universal design features in the model house appeared in unobtrusive ways. Universal design considerations on floor materials in living room and bath and furniture arrangement need to modify or replace according to Korean lifestyle.

Electrical Designs for Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASIC) has undergone a change recently with the advent of the sub-wavelength lithography. The optical projection with 193 nm wavelength has been further extended with the use of immersion and other techniques. The competing trends for printing smaller design features have been discussed in this paper with the discussion of the electrical layout analysis to find unfriendly design features. The early knowledge of the unfriendly design features allows remedial actions in time for better yield on the wafer. There are existing standard design qualification criteria being used in the design and fabrication community, but they seem to be insufficient to guarantee defect free designs. This paper proposes an integrated approach for screening the layout with multiple aspects: layout geometry based, graphical analysis and process model based verification. The results have been discussed with few example design features from the 28nm design layout.
The psychophysical magnitude estimation thechnique can provide a useful tool for determining the best design features of a product in terms of user preference, especially when it is difficult or almost impossible to obtain objective and quantitative data on the user performance. In this research, several interior design features of a high speed train such as arrangement of passenger seats, and availability of interior facilities were examined quantitatively to provide interior design recommendations for the high speed train. A train simulator was built to provide a realistic interior enviror enviroment of the high speed train, and individual design features were manipulated by using a three-factor within-subject experimental design. At the same time, a psychophysical scale of verbal descriptors ranging from "extremly like" to "extremly dislike" was developed to explain the magnitude estimates of the design features in ordinary language.n ordinary language.
