Slope-rotatable Designs for Estimating the Slope of Response Surfaces in Experiments with Mixtures

  • In this paper a class of mixture designs for estimating the slope of second order Scheffe polynomial response surfaces for mixture experiments with q components is presented. The variance of the estimated directional slope at a point is a function of the direction of the slope and the design. If the variance is averaged over all possible directions in the (q-1)-dimensional simplex, the averaged variance is only a function of the point and the design. By choice of design, it is possible to make this variance constant for all points equidistant from the centroid point. This property is called "slope-rotatability over al directions in the simplex", and the necessary and sufficient conditions for mixture design to have this property are given and proved. The class of designs with this property is compared with other mixture designs and discussed.discussed.

Conceptual Design and Wind Load Analysis of Tall Building

  • The paper describes the conceptual design, structural modelling and wind load analysis of tall buildings. The lateral stiffness of the building can be obtained economically through the interaction of core walls with peripheral frame tube and/or bundle of frame tubes and integrated design of the basement. The main structural components should be properly distributed such that the building will deflect mainly in the direction of the applied force without inducing significant response in other directions and twist. The cost effectiveness can be further enhanced through close consultation between architects and engineers at an early stage of conceptual design. Simplified structural modelling of the building and its response in three principal directions due to wind load are included. Effects of the two main structural components on the performances of a 70-story reinforced concrete building in terms of peak drift and maximum acceleration under wind load are discussed.

Suggesting Structure and Direction of a Library and Information Science Curriculum Applying Design Thinking Methods

  • In response to the changing needs of users and library services, there is a need to develop a library information science curriculum that reflects such change and to foster competent librarians. Recent studies abroad have emphasized the need for librarians who can apply design thinking methods which is a problem-solving methodology that expansively explores various alternatives and derives results, in response to recent changes and problems occurring in libraries. In this study, in order to understand how design thinking methods can be taught and to understand the perceptions of the students and librarians involved in the course, a case study is conducted of a class that applied design thinking methods and students and librarians have been interviewed who had experience participating in the class. By reflecting on the needs of students and librarians', this study explored new directions of what forms courses can take for future librarians. Based on the results of the analysis, among the different characteristics of design thinking, the value of cooperation, problem-solving ability, flexibility and iteration of design characteristics was considered as the value of a class for LIS students and librarians where design thinking methods were applied. From the findings, the research suggests future directions of creating more structured courses that involve an element of design thinking.

A Study on the Design of Walking aids for Outdoor Use by the Elderly Applying Universal Design Principles

  • Existing research on walking aids has primarily focused on functional improvements, often neglecting negative aspects such as physical injuries and psychological discomfort, which limits the elderly's active participation in outdoor activities. This study aims to analyze issues related to outdoor walking stemming from physical and psychological factors in the elderly and to propose design directions for walking aids that align with their preferences. In-depth interviews were conducted with 13 elderly individuals aged 65 and above who use rollators, from May 2024 to June 2024. The interviews were analyzed using a questionnaire based on psychological factors identified in previous studies and functional aspects, utilizing Universal Design principles. The five-stage design thinking model from d.school was employed for problem definition. Issues related to walking aids were identified and analyzed during the 'Empathize' and 'Define' stages. The findings highlight priorities such as maintaining proper posture, reducing vibration, improving ease of folding and speed control, and providing additional storage space without causing discomfort. The proposed design directions reflect the needs and aspirations derived from the actual experiences of elderly individuals. The study's findings are expected to contribute to the development of walking aids that enhance usability and confidence, thereby improving the quality of life for elderly individuals.

공공도서관 서비스의 유니버설디자인 적용에 관한 연구 (Application of Universal Design in Public Library Services)

  • 최근 도서관을 둘러싼 사회의 다변화는 도서관의 서비스에도 영향을 미치고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 모든 이용자에 대한 보편적 서비스를 제공해야 하는 공공도서관이 변화하는 사회 환경 속에서도 그 본질에 부합하는 서비스를 제공할 수 있도록 관련 제도 및 사례 분석을 통해 유니버설디자인 측면에서의 공공도서관 서비스의 방향성을 제시하였다. 공공도서관 서비스에서의 유니버설디자인 적용을 위하여 공공도서관 서비스의 보편성 추구를 위한 핵심 키워드 "유니버설디자인", 유니버설디자인을 통한 공공도서관 서비스의 경제적 가치 추구, 공공도서관 서비스 인식 개선을 위한 유니버설디자인, 유니버설디자인 적용을 통한 공공도서관 서비스 관련 정책 및 제도 전환의 4가지 방향성을 제언하였다.

  • Space design is a process of solving spatial problems to create and construct all kinds of human lives. It also bestows new values to a medium to induce human perception based on the relationships between 'human and space' surrounding people. Research on user behavior has several ultimate goals including understanding both individual behavior and the relations between the user and space from a more scientific and systematic perspective, predicting various phenomena that can happen between space and humans, and reflecting the results in space design. As user behavior that's once limited within given space is going through some changes due to the introduction of digital technologies, research on user behavior in today's space design should be newly illuminated in the aspects of organic relations. Space now works as a receptor communicating with the user and responding to user behavior, and user behavior once under one-sided influences from space becomes more diverse and active. The influences of user behavior, in turn, cause changes to space itself. Thus this study set out to suggest new directions in research on user behavior based on interactions between space and the user in space design.

  • As concerns over environmental issues grow, the fashion industry is looking for sustainable and eco-friendly directions. In particular, the fashion industry is actively introducing upcycling to address environmental pollution. In addition, the fashion trend of surrealistic expression techniques are drawing attention, reflecting modern people's desire to relieve stress and escape from daily life. Accordingly, this study focused on modern environmental issues and the pursuit of personality away from popularization, and proposed upcycling using surrealist expression techniques. As a research method, literature research and prior research were conducted through data collection, and the concepts of surrealism, upcycling, and fashion expression techniques were summarized. Based on this survey, the theme of "Dream Forest" was decided upon, and design development and the production of real works were carried out using CLO 3D. This study is expected to contribute to presenting sustainable strategies and directions in the field of fashion design, spreading social awareness of sustainable fashion, while aiming to provide new insights to fashion designers, and enhancing the social awareness of sustainable fashion.

  • 본 논문에서는 다음과 같은 관점의 광각 2군 줌 렌즈 설계를 소개한다. 먼저전역최적화의 개념을 기초설계단계에서 도입하고, 이를 통해 현대의 수많은 데이터들을 체계적으로 계통화하고 단순화할 수 있는 설계방안을 제안한다. 구체적인 방안으로 전역설 계를 위해 전역구조함수라는 새로운 개념의 함수를 도입하였고 단순화시켰으며, 나아가 약간의 대수적인 혹은 수치적인 계산을 통해 전역 해 영역을 구하였다. 전역 해 영역은 전역최적화에 대응되는 개념이고 상용화된 설계프로그램들 보다 더 체계적이고 통찰적인 설계방향을 제시한다.
