A study on the direction of the interaction of furniture (인터랙티브 가구의 방향에 관한 연구)

  • With the recent development of ICT, diverse ICT-related fields are being developed and undergoing changes. Numerous researches are being actively conducted on the interactions between users, devices, and computers. Such interaction is now being applied to furniture; interactive furniture are on the rise with which humans can interact with their furniture. This study focused on such interactive furniture and purported to give some pointers to future research on the interaction between users and furniture. This study implemented a user diary on furniture use to analyze user tasks. By using affinity diagram analysis ideation workshop, user tasks were identified and analyzed. The analysis revealed that the future direction for interactive furniture should be automation an complexation. This study is significant in the following two aspects: 1) having suggested future directions for interactive furniture, and 2) serving as foundational data for future research on interactive furniture.

Effect of Microstructure Change According to Tempering Temperature on Room Temperature Tensile Properties in Carbon Steel of SM30C (SM30C의 탄소강에서 템퍼링 온도에 따른 미세조직 변화가 상온 인장특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to process plastic with similar mechanical performance to metal materials, it is necessary to improve the strength and hardness of core parts of the injection equipment in extrusion system. The tempering process is a heat treatment performed to reduce brittleness and improve elongation along with improvement of dimensional defects of martensite formed after quenching. In this study, changes in microstructure and mechanical properties according to temperature were evaluated after quenching and tempering of SM30C material. As a result, the strength and hardness were gradually decreased by tempering at 250~400℃, and the decrease was greatly increased under the tempering condition at 450℃. Under the tempering condition of 200~400℃, the main structure was lath martensite, and the precipitation amount and size of needle-shaped cementite increased along the lath with the increase of the tempering temperature. Most of the shape of cementite has a needle-like structure, and the formation of some spherical cementite is observed. Under the tempering condition of 450℃, a mixed structure of ferrite and martensite was formed according to the decomposition of martensite.

Concrete Reinforcement Modeling with IFC for Automated Rebar Fabrication

  • Automated rebar fabrication, which requires effective information exchange between model designers and fabricators, has brought the integration and interoperability of data from different sources to the notice of both academics and industry practitioners. Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) was one of the most commonly used data formats to represent the semantic information of prefabricated components in buildings, whereas the data format utilized by rebar fabrication machine is BundesVereinigung der Bausoftware (BVBS), which is a numerical data structure exchanging reinforcement information through ASCII encoded files. Seamless transformation between IFC and BVBS empowers the automated rebar fabrication and improve the construction productivity. In order to improve data interoperability between IFC and BVBS, this study presents an IFC extension based on the attributes required by automated rebar fabrication machines with the help of Information Delivery Manual (IDM) and Model View Definition (MVD). IDM is applied to describe and display the information needed for the design, construction and operation of projects, whereas MVD is a subset of IFC schema used to describe the automated rebar fabrication workflow. Firstly, with a rich pool of vocabularies practitioners, OmniClass is used in information exchange between IFC and BVBS, providing a hierarchy classification structure for reinforcing elements. Then, using International Framework for Dictionaries (IFD), the usage of each attribute is defined in a more consistent manner to assist the data mapping process. Besides, in order to address missing information within automated fabrication process, a schematic data mapping diagram has been made to deliver IFC information from BIM models to BVBS format for better data interoperability among different software agents. A case study based on the data mapping will be presented to demonstrate the proposed IFC extension and how it could assist/facilitate the information management.

Development of an FPGA-based Sealer Coating Inspection Vision System for Automotive Glass Assembly Automation Equipment (자동차 글라스 조립 자동화설비를 위한 FPGA기반 실러 도포검사 비전시스템 개발)

  • In this study, an FPGA-based sealer inspection system was developed to inspect the sealer applied to install vehicle glass on a car body. The sealer is a liquid or paste-like material that promotes adhesion such as sealing and waterproofing for mounting and assembling vehicle parts to a car body. The system installed in the existing vehicle design parts line does not detect the sealer in the glass rotation section and takes a long time to process. This study developed a line laser camera sensor and an FPGA vision signal processing module to solve this problem. The line laser camera sensor was developed such that the resolution and speed of the camera for data acquisition could be modified according to the irradiation angle of the laser. Furthermore, it was developed considering the mountability of the entire system to prevent interference with the sealer ejection machine. In addition, a vision signal processing module was developed using the Zynq-7020 FPGA chip to improve the processing speed of the algorithm that converted the profile to the sealer shape image acquired from a 2D camera and calculated the width and height of the sealer using the converted profile. The performance of the developed sealer application inspection system was verified by establishing an experimental environment identical to that of an actual automobile production line. The experimental results confirmed the performance of the sealer application inspection at a level that satisfied the requirements of automotive field standards.

A fundamental study on the automation of tunnel blasting design using a machine learning model (머신러닝을 이용한 터널발파설계 자동화를 위한 기초연구)

  • As many tunnels generally have been constructed, various experiences and techniques have been accumulated for tunnel design as well as tunnel construction. Hence, there are not a few cases that, for some usual tunnel design works, it is sufficient to perform the design by only modifying or supplementing previous similar design cases unless a tunnel has a unique structure or in geological conditions. In particular, for a tunnel blast design, it is reasonable to refer to previous similar design cases because the blast design in the stage of design is a preliminary design, considering that it is general to perform additional blast design through test blasts prior to the start of tunnel excavation. Meanwhile, entering the industry 4.0 era, artificial intelligence (AI) of which availability is surging across whole industry sector is broadly utilized to tunnel and blasting. For a drill and blast tunnel, AI is mainly applied for the estimation of blast vibration and rock mass classification, etc. however, there are few cases where it is applied to blast pattern design. Thus, this study attempts to automate tunnel blast design by means of machine learning, a branch of artificial intelligence. For this, the data related to a blast design was collected from 25 tunnel design reports for learning as well as 2 additional reports for the test, and from which 4 design parameters, i.e., rock mass class, road type and cross sectional area of upper section as well as bench section as input data as well as16 design elements, i.e., blast cut type, specific charge, the number of drill holes, and spacing and burden for each blast hole group, etc. as output. Based on this design data, three machine learning models, i.e., XGBoost, ANN, SVM, were tested and XGBoost was chosen as the best model and the results show a generally similar trend to an actual design when assumed design parameters were input. It is not enough yet to perform the whole blast design using the results from this study, however, it is planned that additional studies will be carried out to make it possible to put it to practical use after collecting more sufficient blast design data and supplementing detailed machine learning processes.

Optimum Design of Cross Section Lateral Damper Oil Seals for High Speed Railway Vehicle (고속 철도 차량 횡댐퍼 오일 씰의 형상 단면 최적설계)

  • The damper oil seal of a high-speed railway vehicle is made from nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) in order to prevent lubricant from leaking into the damper and to stop harmful contaminants from entering the external environment while in service. Oil leakage through the seal primarily occurs from fatigue failure of the damper. Cumulative damage of the seal occurs due to the contact force between the rod and the rubber during movement due to track irregularities and cants, among other factors. Thus, the design of the oil seal should minimize the maximum principal strain at weak points. In this study, the optimal cross section of the damper oil seal was found using the multi-island genetic algorithm method to improve the durability of the damper. The optimal shape of the oil seal was derived using process automation and design optimization software. Nonlinear material properties for finite element analysis (FEA) of the rubber were determined by Marlow's model. The nonlinear FEA confirmed that the maximum principal strain at the oil leakage point was decreased 24% between the initial design and the optimum design.

A Study on the Automation Algorithm to Identify the Geological Lineament using Spatial Statistical Analysis (공간통계분석을 이용한 지질구조선 자동화 알고리즘 연구)

  • Recently, tunneling under the seabed is becoming increasingly common in many countries. In Korea, there are proposals to tunnel from the mainland to Jeju Island. Safe construction requires geologic structures such as faults to be characterized during the design and construction phase; however, unlike on land, such structures are difficult to survey seabed. This study aims to develop an algorithm that uses geostatistics to automatically derive large-scale geological structures on the seabed. The most important considerations in this method are the optimal size of the moving window, the optimal type of spatial statistics, and determination of the optimal percentile standard. Finally, the optimal analysis algorithm was developed using the R program, which comprehensibly presents variations in spatial statistics. The program allows the type and percentile standard of spatial statistics to be specified by the user, thus enabling an analysis of the geological structure according to variations in spatial statistics. The geotechnical defense-training algorithm shows that a large, linear geological lineament is best visualized using a $3{\times}3$ moving window and a 10% upper standard based on the moving variance value and fractile. In particular, setting the fractile criterion to the upper 0.5% almost entirely eliminates the error values from the contour image.

A Scenario-Based User-Oriented Integrated Architecture for Supporting Interoperability among Heterogeneous Home Network Middlewares (이질적인 홈 네트워크 미들웨어 상호 연동성 지원을 위한 사용자 중심의 시나리오 기반 통합 구조)

  • Although there exist many middlewares such as Havi, Jini, LonWorks, UPnP, and SLP, new middlewares specialized for diverse information appliances are expected to appear continuously as home networks evolve. In this paper, we examine an integrated architecture for supporting interoperability among heterogeneous middlewares under home network, we also propose and implement a scenario-based user-oriented integrated architecture for efficient home automation which is different from existing methods. HOMI(Homenetwork Middleware for Interoperability) architecture proposed in this paper provides interfaces that assist users with designing and modifying desirable scenarios using a script interpreter language HOMIL(HOMI Language). Different from an existing integrated middleware architecture, HOMI improves efficiency and convenience of interoperation between heterogeneous appliances for home automation allowing users to design and organize scenarios through these interfaces. HOMI classifies interoperation services into time contort, synchronization context, and asynchronization context and helps to execute next services considering contexts when a specific event occurs. Applying modified scenarios immediately to home network environment, HOMI provides users with seamless services without installing new applications, updating the server, or rebooting in order to adopt new scenarios. Lastly, distribution agents into several devices, we solved the overhead problem occurred in a centralized architecture for integrated middleware.

Automation of BIM Material Mapping to Activate Virtual Construction (가상건설 활성화를 위한 BIM 재질 매핑 자동화 기술)

  • Recently, BIM has become mandatory in the construction field, research on various use cases is increasing. In particular, when virtual reality technology, one of the core technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, and BIM are combined, it can be used in various fields such as preliminary design review and construction simulation. Until now, however, virtual reality grafting technology is only used as a simple prototype or as a model house. Also, it is difficult to activate virtual construction because it is expensive to produce high-quality virtual reality contents. Therefore, in this paper, in order to increase the utilization and quality of the virtual construction field, a study was conducted to shorten the material mapping time, which takes a lot of time when producing virtual reality contents using BIM. To this end, object properties were assigned to enable material mapping in the BIM model, and materials most used in the construction field were configured, and automated material function development and final tests were conducted that automatically map properties and materials. For the test, 10 models were used and the test was repeated three times, and the productivity improvement of about 50.16% was finally achieved. In the future, we plan to conduct research on physical data weight reduction based on the advanced material mapping automation function and the large-capacity BIM model.

Brake Module Assembly Using a Redundant Robot Having an 1 DOF End Effector (1 자유도 엔드 이펙터를 갖는 여유 자유도 로봇을 사용한 브레이크 모듈 조립)

  • In this paper, we deal with robotic automation for assembling car brake modules. A car brake module is comprises of a torque member, two brake pads, and two pad liners. In the assembly process, brake pads and pad liners are needed to be inserted in a torque member. If we use a typical robotic hand for the assembly, task time takes too long. So, we propose two methods. The first method is to use an end effector that has five grippers capable of gripping five assembly parts. In the first method we attached the implemented end effector to a conventional 6 degrees of freedom industrial manipulator and performed the bake module assembly task. Experimental results show that the task time is remarkably reduced. The brake module assembly task needs the robot to change its orientation frequently, so, in the second method, we added one degree of freedom to the end effector that is used in the first method. By attaching it to a conventional 6 degrees of freedom industrial manipulator, we composed a 7 degrees of freedom redundant manipulator. A redundant manipulator has the advantage of flexible manipulation so the robot can change its orientation easily and can perform assembly task very fast. Experimental results show that the second method dramatically reduce whole task time for brake module assembly.
