According to Diagnostic system based on Shanghanlun provisions, Kyejiinsam-tang was provided for 250 days. The severity of Atopic Dermatitis was evaluated by SCORAD index and pictures. Results : When analyzing the patient's history and symptoms, it can be found in article No. 163 in Shanghanlun. The area and intensity of Atopic Dermatitis were reduced when viewed photos findings, and SCORAD index decreased 58.1 to 7.1. So diagnosis and therapies showed valid results in Atopic Dermatitis. Conclusions : Kyejiinsam-tang is efficient to patient of this case report as a treatment.

  • This study is first report on dermatitis digitalis and dermatitis verrucosa, which were occurred in bovine claw, in the Republic of Korea. Pathologically, dermatitis digitalis was observed in the from of surperficial epidermitis on the skin at the caudal end of interdigital cleft with whitish epithelial bordel while dermatitis verrucosa in the form of wart-like proliferation of the skin midway between the bulbs and adjacent to the coronary band. Histological finding of dermatitis verrucosa were noticeable parakeratotic hyperkeratosis of the epidermis, acanthosis, spongiosis of prickle cell layer and intercellular bridges.

This Study is attempted in order to estimate of possibility of oriental treatment on atopic dermatitis. Objective: We studied 24 years old women with atopic dermatitis from June 2004 to July 2004 Method: We treated her with herb medication and used three index to assess the severity of atopic dermatitis. Results: Each index show us about 50-60$\%$ of improvement Conclusion: On the basis of this study, It should be considered that treatment of atopic dermatitis should be focused on fever of yang-ming.

  • Saccharina japonica (SJ), a brown algae, exerts various pharmacological effects, including anti-oxidant, immunemodulating and anti-cancer properties. This study aimed to determine the pharmacological mechanism of SJ on atopic dermatitis in vivo and in vitro. We investigated the pharmacological effects of SJ on 2, 4-dinitrochlrobenzene (DNCB)- induced atopic dermatitis clinical symptoms in mice. Additionally, we evaluated the effects of SJ on the inflammatory cytokine production and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) activation in HaCaT cells. The findings of this study demonstrated that SJ reduced the clinical symptoms of atopic dermatitis, such as skin dryness, erythema and eczematous, and serum histamine and IgE level in DNCB-induced atopic dermatitis model. Additionally, SJ inhibited the NF-κB activation in atopic dermatitis-like skin lesion and HaCaT cells. Collectively, this result suggests that SJ could be used as a therapeutic agent for skin inflammation, including atopic dermatitis.

  • Dermatomyositis (DM) is characterized by progressive proximal limb weakness and typical skin manifestations. The histological findings that show perifascicular atrophy and deposition of membrane attack complex are pathognomic features of DM. Dermatomyositis is categorized into classical DM and non-classical DM, which includes amyopathic DM and DM sine dermatitis. DM sine dermatitis is seldom described because of its rarity, making the diagnosis more challenging. We report a case of DM sine dermatitis, a rare phenotype of DM.

  • Objectives : The water extract of Hwangnyeonhaedok-tang (HHT), composed of the Scutellariae Radix, Coptidis Rhizoma, Phellodendri Cortex and Gardeniae Fructus has been traditionally used to treat fever, inflammation, gastritis and hypertension in east asia. However, little is known about the ameliorative effects of HHT on atopic dermatitis. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the therapeutic effect of HHT on atopic dermatitis Methods : We investigated the inhibitory effects of HHT on the production of proinflammatory cytokines in rat peritoneal mast cells (RPMCs), on the scratching behavior in ICR mice, and on atopic dermatitis symptoms in 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNFB)-induced atopic dermatitis-like model hairless mice. Results : Levels of TNF-${\alpha}$ and IL-$1{\beta}$ increased by PMA plus A23187 co-treatment were significantly inhibited by HHT in a dose-dependent manner. HHT also inhibited the histamine release from RPMCs stimulated by compound 48/80, which promotes histamine release. The oral administration of HHT reduced the scratching behavior induced by compound 48/80 and histamine in ICR mice. Furthermore, the intradermal treatment of HHT reduced the ear edema, skin lesions, and atopic molecular marker (IgE and IL-4) in DNFB-induced atopic dermatitis model mice. Conclusions : These results suggest that HHT may be used as a potential treatment for AD as a prescription for treatment of atopic dermatitis.

  • Objective: This study aimed to investigate the demand for natural environment therapy among parents of patients with atopic dermatitis. Methods: The questionnaire-based survey was conducted on the parents of 310 patients with atopic dermatitis (158 male and 152 female, median age 8 years, ranging from 2 to 21 years). The questionnaire consisted of 10 questions including demographic information, preference of environmental therapy and related choices. Results: Regardless of illness severity or gender, parents agreed with the importance of environmental therapy in treatment for atopic dermatitis. 55.2% of parents had considered moving to the countryside for their children with atopic dermatitis. 74.5% of parents answered positively to the possibility of movement to an atopy-free village, and this rate was significantly higher in parents of patients with severe symptoms (p < 0.05). Educational facilities and eco-environment were considered to be the most important factors in their decision. In addition, parents opted for organic food cooperatives, which was also felt necessary for their children suffering from atopic dermatitis. Conclusions: This study is the first report suggesting the extent of demand for environmental therapies among patients with atopic dermatitis. This information will be helpful in developing therapeutics using the natural environment in Korean medicine.

  • Objective : The objective of this study is to assess the clinical effect of Naesowhajungtang Gamibang on atopic dermatitis. Method : A total of 30 patients with atopic dermatitis were evaluated for the symptoms and signs according to SCORAD index and measured for peripheral eosinophil counts and serum total IgE before and after treatment. Results : 1. Among 30 patients diagnosed as Atopic Dermatitis, 11, were male(37%) and 19 were female(63%). the ratio of male and female patients were 1:1.7. 2. Among 30 patients diagnosed as Atopic Dermatitis, 25 Have family history of allergic disease(83%) and 20 have past history of allergic discase. 3. There was statistically significant relationship between serum total IgE and SCORAD score(p=0.019). 4. There was statistically significant relationship between peripheral eosinophil count and SCORAD score(p=0.001). 5. We could find no statistically significant change of serum total IgE and peripheral eosinphil count before and after treatment. 6. There was statistically significant change of SCORAD score and subjective symptom before and after treatment.(p<0.05). Conclusion : Naesowhajungtanggamibang is effective in the treatment of atopic dermatitis. And peripheral eosinophil counts and serum total IgE were good serum maker reflection the severity of atopic dermatitis.
