Evaluation of the blast-restriction zone to secure tunnel lining safety (터널라이닝 안전관리를 위한 발파제한영역 평가)

  • In urban areas, blast excavation adjacent to tunnels is carried out frequently. It is generally required to secure static and dynamic stability of nearby tunnel structures for any such activities. Although there is some national guidelines for static safety, there is little guides to risk zoning controling the dynamic behavior of the underground structures. In this study, impacts on the blast-induced vibration are investigated using numerical study. An attempt to define the restricted area of blast adjacent to subway tunnels was also made. Particular concerns were given to tunnel depth and ground types. By carrying out the parametric study on depth and ground patterns, the envelope of blast distance of which dynamic response on the lining is controlled under 1 cm/sec, is established. It is shown that the increase in depth has increased the required safety distance slightly until the distance of 3.5 times of the tunnel diameter. Despite small changes in safety distance, it can be generally said that the effects of depth and stiffness of the ground is not significant in controlling the particle velocity of the tunnel linings.

A Study on the Space Area Guideline of Clinical Laboratory in Korea - Focused on Laboratory Case Studies (국내 종합병원 진단검사의학과의 면적산정 방법에 대한 연구 - 검사실 사례조사를 중심으로)

  • Purpose: Clinical laboratory of hospital has been demanded to extension or relocation regarding with the test number increase and analyzer development. Space area criteria per test numbers, lab functions, hospital bed and lab staffs are needed for draft space programing. So, the purpose of this study is to provide the space area guideline of clinical laboratory for space calculation in planning and design the spatial environment. Methods: Literature review has been used in checking the standards and guidelines. And questionnaire surveys to laboratory supervisors in hospitals have been conducted for the data collection. 60 answers have been analysed statistically by MS Excel program. Results: The result of this study can be summarized into three way calculations. The first one shows that the basic standard workspace and distance is applied in lab design. The second one shows that average space area criteria resulted from case studies is applied by 19㎡ per one staff, 0.9~1.0㎡ per one bed, and lastly linear length calculation of workbenches and analyzers on the bench top and floor mount, is multiplying it by the sum of the counter depth plus aisle width. Implications: In updating the space area calculation guidelines, it is necessary to cooperate with medical staffs and designers.

  • In this paper, we consider the potential of a metaverse space that can be expanded infinitely through the reinvention of the metaverse space. In particular, this study attempted to establish a new concept of metaverse space, and to present research models and strategies between technologies and humanities. To perform this, this study revealed problems that can be overlooked through characteristic analysis of the metaverse space and proposed ways to overcome them through in-depth interviews with experts. In this way, interdisciplinary research will contribute to the revitalization of the metaverse content industry in the mid to long term. Therefore, through this study, it is expected that reinterpreted metaverse space can reach a practical realization as a meaningful place of life and a creative space through Yi-Fu Tuan's concept.

The Effect on Legibility of the Inner Space Width of Hangeul Characters: Focusing on the Outer Space Width (한글꼴의 속공간 넓이가 가독성에 미치는 영향: 외부 속공간을 중심으로)

  • Among the various factors that form fonts, the concept of a new Korean font term called Inner Space Width was developed and the effect of changes in fonts applied to readability was analyzed. [Experiment 1] An empirical analysis was attempted on how the Korean-shaped Outer Space Width affects readability among the texts. Among the factors that make up the paragraph, Outer Space Width by letter size, letter size, letter spacing, letter spacing, and letter shape was composed of Yoon Myung-jo 110-160 and Inner Space Width of Yoon Myung-jo 110 was the widest at 26.83%. [Experiment 2] In-depth interviews with experts were conducted to derive factors and evaluation indicators constituting the inner space. Inner Space Width is evaluated as a complex factor that affects preference and fatigue, and is related to understanding and speed. This study empirically reviewed the effect on readability using the concept of Inner Space Width in the absence of existing research on Hangul-shaped fast space, and is expected to be actively used in the development of fonts in the future.

  • Apartment, which have become the major housing style in Korea, have contributed to the development of housing culture as well as achieved a growth in volume. However, the demands and characteristics of residents have not been reflected in the apartment, because it has been developed only for a growth in volume. In this society, housing unit was the first consideration rather than common space. Therefore, a required resident-centered common space is the domestic housing market's necessity. Under this circumstance, this study investigated previous studies on interior design guidelines for common space were analyzed using Murtha and Lee's user benefit criteria which emphasizes humanity. In-depth content analysis was employed in this study. The result showed that four categories of the model were related toward more user-centered residential environment-behavioral facilitation, physiological maintenance, perceptual maintenance, and social facilitation.

Electro-magneto-thermoelastic surface waves in non-homogeneous orthotropic granular half space

  • The effect of various parameters on the propagation of surface waves in electro-magneto thermoelastic orthotropic granular non-homogeneous medium subjected to gravity and initial compression has been studied. All material coefficients are obeyed the same exponent-law dependence on the depth of the granular elastic half space. Some special cases investigated by earlier researchers have also been deduced. Dispersion curves are computed numerically and presented graphically.

A Derivation of Aerosol Optical Depth Estimates from Direct Normal Irradiance Measurements

  • This study introduces a method for estimating Aerosol Optical Depth (AOD) using Broadband Aerosol Optical Depth (BAOD) derived from direct normal irradiance and meteorological factors observed between 2016 and 2017. Through correlation analyses between BAOD and atmospheric components such as Rayleigh scattering, water vapor, and tropospheric nitrogen dioxide, significant relationships were identified, enabling accurate AOD estimation. The methodology demonstrated high correlation coefficients and low Root Mean Square Errors (RMSE) compared to actual AOD500 measurements, indicating that the attenuation effects of water vapor and the direct impact of tropospheric nitrogen dioxide concentration are crucial for precise aerosol optical depth estimation. The application of BAOD for estimating AOD500 across various time scales-hourly, daily, and monthly-showed the approach's robustness in understanding aerosol distributions and their optical properties, with a high coefficient of determination (0.96) for monthly average AOD500 estimates. This study simplifies the aerosol monitoring process and enhances the accuracy and reliability of AOD estimations, offering valuable insights into aerosol research and its implications for climate modeling and air quality assessment. The findings underscore the viability of using BAOD as a surrogate for direct AOD500 measurements, presenting a promising avenue for more accessible and accurate aerosol monitoring practices, crucial for improving our understanding of aerosol dynamics and their environmental impacts.

An Analysis of the Unit Plan Characteristics for the Apartments at Metropolitan Seoul Area in the Context of Space Syntax Model (아파트 단위주거 평면의 규모별 공간구성에 관한 기초 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze spatial configuration of the unit floor plan characteristics of the apartments built in Seoul Metropolitan area by using the Space Syntax methodology and finally to test the relationship between space in the unit floor plans. So the unit floor plans are analyzed using sector graphs from justified graph and computer programs based on the Space Syntax model and compared by size. The results are as follows; The sector graphs are summarized in 14 types. The total depth of spaces is not in proportion to the plan area. And the global and local integration and intelligibility are inversely proportional to the area. But in the case of largest areas(265$m^2$ and above), the integration and intelligibility increase.

Quantitative assessment of spalling depth and width using statistical inference theory in underground openings (통계추론을 이용한 지하암반공동에서의 스폴링 깊이와 폭에 대한 정량적 평가)

  • Until now, the evaluation method of spalling depth using Martin et al. (1999)'s linear regression relations has long been known applicable. However, it is not likely that the proposed equation is applicable to the openings other than circular type and mostly overpredict the spalling depth in comparison with actual spalling cases. Moreover, the evaluation method to estimate the spalling width has not been presented yet; it is essential to evaluate the spalling width in addition to the spalling depth, because the shape of the spalled region influences the choice of suitable rock reinforcement. In this study, linear regression equations, in which normalized spalling depth ($d_f/W_D$) and normalized spalling width ($w_f/W_D$) are functions of three spalling evaluation indices, ${\sigma}_1/{\sigma}_c,\;D_{is}(={\sigma}_{max}/{\sigma}_c)$ and ${\sigma}_{dev}/{\sigma}_{cm}$, are established based on in-situ spalling observations and CWFS simulation results. Confidence intervals of 95% using the statistical inference theory are used in verifying the reliability of linear regression equations. Spalling depth ($d_f$) and spalling width ($w_f$) predicted from the proposed linear regression relations, which take three spalling evaluation indices into account, showed reasonable match with in-situ observations by adopting weighting factors considering the degree of variance of linear regression relations.

  • As the modern-day Apartment Complex has varied community facilities such as health care center and self-improvement institutions affecting the residents' quality of life, this paper is for the in-depth understanding on how such Exterior Space vary and development plan should go. To be specific, this paper is to, based upon the theoretical contemplation on the concept and role of the Exterior Space to Apartment Complex, as well as drawing a conclusion on the development plan for subject areas as assessed. Subject areas of this paper are a total of twelve Apartment Complexes built since Year 2005 in nine different regions in Seoul. As such specialties and features as leisure of the senior citizen and female residents, the subject Apartment Complexes have provided opportunities, active and inactive, to the residents for leisure by qualitative improvement of facilities, as well as establishing the discrete brand value for the Exterior Space with featured design and spatial properties. Also notable is the eco-friendliness of the Exterior Space with cutting-edge technology, eventually appreciating the value of Apartment Complex.
