Recently, the analysis of microcutting with submicrometer depth of cut is tried to get a more high quality surface product, but to get a valuable result another method instead of conventional finite element method must be considered because finite element method is impossible for a very small focused region and mesh size. As the alternative method, Molecular Dynamics or Statics is suggested and accepted in the field of microcutting, indentation and crack propagation. In this paper using Molecular Dynamics simulation, the phenomena of microcutting with subnanometer chip thickness is studied and the cutting mechanism for tool edge configuration is evaluated. As the result of simulation the atomistic chip formation is achieved.

The present paper is devoted to constructing a numerical algorithm for solving un steady problems on generation, propagation and interaction of nonlinear waves at a surface of ideal fluid, within the framework of the potential-flow model. The numerical scheme is implicit. with non-linearity iteration at every step of time. the finite-difference method with boundary-fitted coordinates are presented in favor for validity and high efficiency of the numerical model developed. Among these arguments, there are the results of calculations of two test problems-on stretching of a liquid ellipse and on wave generation by lifting a portion of a bottom.
This study addresses cracks and fracture problems in engineering structures that may cause significant challenges and safety concerns, with a focus on pressure vessels in nuclear power plants. Comprehensive parametric three-dimensional mixed mode fracture analyses for inclined and deflected nozzle corner cracks with various crack shape aspect ratios and depth ratios in nuclear reactor pressure vessels are carried out. Stress intensity factor (SIF) solutions are obtained using FRAC3D, which is part of Fracture and Crack Propagation Analysis System (FCPAS), employing enriched finite elements along the crack front. Also, improved empirical equations are developed to allow the determination of mixed mode SIFs, KI, KII, and KIII, for any values of the parameters considered in the study. This study provides practical solutions to assess the remaining life and fail-safe conditions of nuclear reactors by providing accurate SIF determination.
The shear behavior of simply supported reinforced concrete deep beams subject to concentrated loads has been scrutinized experimentally to verify the influence of the structural parameters such as concrete strength, shear span-depth ratio, and web reinforcements. A total of 42 reinforced concrete deep beams with compressive strengths of 250 kg/$cm^2$ and 500 kg/$cm^2$ has been tested at the laboratory under one or two-point top loading. The shear span-depth ratio have been taken as three types of 0.4, 0.8 and 1.2, and the horizontal and vertical shear reinforcements ratio, ranging from 0.0 to 0.57 percent respectively. In the tests, the effects of the shear span-depth ratio, concrete strength and web reinforcements on the shear strength and crack initiation and propagation have been carefully checked and analyzed. From the tests, it has been observed that the failures of all specimens were due to shear and the shear behaviors of specimens were greatly affected by inclined cracks from the load application points to the supports in shear span. The load bearing capacities have changed significantly depending on the shear span ratio, and the efficiency of horizontal shear reinforcements were increased as the shear span-depth ratio decreased. The test results have been analyzed and compared with the formulas proposed by previous researchers and the design equation from the code. While the shear strengths obtained from the tests showed around 1.4 and 1.9 times higher than the values calculated by CIRIA guide and the domestic code, they were closely coincident with the formulas given by de Paiva's equation.

The classification scheme of estuaries can be divided into two categories: qualitative classification based on geomorphic characteristics and quantitative classification based upon the physical properties of water body. While simple and intuitive scheme of the former is difficult to quantify, the latter is not easy to apply due to the lack of data. A classification scheme based on morphological convergence is very promising because it only requires easily accessible data such as width and depth of channels, as well as it can characterize estuaries in terms of tidal propagation. Thus, this paper examines the classification scheme based on estuarine morphological convergence using depth and width data obtained from 19 major Korean estuaries. Morphological convergence for each estuary was estimated with the estuarine length, width and depth data to get the convergence parameters, which includes the degree of funneling ${\nu}$ and the dimensionless estuarine length $y_0$. The transfer function ${\xi}({\nu},ky)$ is then deduced analytically from 1D depth-integrated hydrodynamic momentum equation and continuity equation for estuarine shapes. Tidal response of each estuary is finally calculated using ${\nu}$, $y_0$ and ${\xi}({\nu},ky)$ for comparison and classification. The 19 Korean estuaries were classified into three groups: tidal amplitude-dominated estuaries with standing wave-like tidal response (group 1), current-dominated estuaries with progressive wave-like tidal response (group 2), and the intermediate group (group 3) between groups 1 and 2. The sensitivity analysis revealed that uncertainties in determining the estuarine length can have a critical effect upon the results of classification, which indicates that the reasonable determination of the estuarine length is of critical importance. Once the estuarine length is feasibly determined, depth-convergence can be neglected without any negative effect on the classification scheme, which has an important ramification on the wide applicability of the classification scheme.
Electromagnetic (EM) waves used to send signals under seawater are normally restricted to low frequencies (f) because of sudden exponential increases of attenuation (𝛼) at higher f. The mathematics of EM wave propagation in seawater demonstrate dependence on relative permeability (𝜇r), relative permittivity (𝜀r), conductivity (𝜎), and f of transmission. Estimation of 𝜀r and 𝜎 based on the W. Ellison interpolation model was performed for averaged real-time data of temperature (T) and salinity (S) from 1955 to 2012 for all oceans with 41 088 latitude/longitude points and 101 depth points up to 5500 m. Estimation of parameters such as real and imaginary parts of 𝜀r, 𝜀r', 𝜀r", 𝜎, loss tangent (tan 𝛿), propagation velocity (Vp), phase constant (𝛽), and α contributes to absorption loss (La) for seawater channels carried out by using normal distribution fit in the 3 GHz-40 GHz f range. We also estimated total path loss (LPL) in seawater for given transmission power Pt and antenna (dipole) gain. MATLAB is the simulation tool used for analysis.
In order to estimate the variability of the wave propagation loss (PL) du e to hourly variations of the sound speed profiles (SSPs), we conducted oceanographic measurements every hour for 39 hours in October 1993 in the Korea Strait. Currents and meteorological data were measured simultaneously to examine the causes of the temporal variations of temperatures. During the experiment, the temporal variations of temperatures in the surface layer highly depend on the water mass transport from adjacent seas. The PL for low frequency (75-300 Hz) is calculated using the parabolic equation scheme and averaged over the whole water depth. The hourly variation of the SSP may cause a PL difference of up to 10 dB over a 30-50 km range. The variability of PL, represented by standard deviation for the 39 SSPs, is as large as 3 dB over a 50 km range.
This paper explored the characteristics of the interannual sea surface temperature (SST) variability in the equatorial Pacific by analyzing the simulated data from a newly coupled general circulation model (CGCM). The CGCM simulates well the realistic ENSO variability as well as the mean climatologies including SST, seasonal cycle, precipitation, and subsurface structures. It is argued that the zonal gradient of SST in the equatorial Pacific is responsible for the over-energetic SST variability near the equatorial western boundary in the model. This variability could also be related to the strong westward propagation of SST anomalies which resulted from the enhanced the zonal advection feedback. The simple two-strip model supports this by sensitivity tests. Analysis of the relationship between zonal mean thermocline depth and NINO3 SST index suggested that the ENSO variability is controlled by the recharge-discharge oscillator of the model. The lead-lag regression result reveals that heat buildup process in the western equatorial Pacific associated with the increase of the barrier layer thickness (BLT) is a precedent condition for El $Ni\widetilde{n}o$ to develop.
The cautious blasting works had been used with emulsion explosion electric M/S delay caps. Drill depth was from 3m to 6m with Crawler Drill $\varphi{70mm}$ on the calcalious sand stone(sort-moderate-semi hard Rock). The total numbers of feet blast were 88. Scale distance were induces 15.52-60.32. It was applied to propagation Law in blasting vibration as follows. Propagtion Law in Blasting Vibration $V=K(\frac{D}{W^b})^n$ where V : Peak partical velocity(cm/sec) D : Distance between explosion and recording sites (m) W : Maximum Charge per delay-period of eighit milliseconds or more(Kg) K : Ground transmission constant, empirically determind on th Rocks, Explosive and drilling pattern ets. b : Charge exponents n : Reduced exponents Where the quantity $D/W^b$ is known as the Scale distance. Above equation is worked by the U.S Bureau of Mines to determine peak particle velocity. The propagation Law can be catagrorized in three graups. Cabic root Scaling charge per delay Square root Scaling of charge per delay Site-specific Scaling of charge per delay Charge and reduction exponents carried out by multiple regressional analysis. It's divided into under loom and over loom distance because the frequency is verified by the distance from blast site. Empirical equation of cautious blasting vibration is as follows. Over 30m----under l00m----- $V=41(D/3\sqrt{W})^{-1.41}$ -----A Over l00m-----$V= 121(D/3\sqrt{W})^{-1.66}$-----B K value on the above equation has to be more specified for furthur understang about the effect of explosives, Rock strength. And Drilling pattern on the vibration levels, it is necessary to carry out more tests.
A two-dimensional BEM code, $FRACOD^{2D}$, was applied to simulate fracture initiation and propagation processes in a rock pillar during an in situ heater test of a rock pillar planned at the $\"{A}sp\"{o}$ Underground Rock laboratory of SKB, in Southern Sweden. To take the advantage of conventional BEM for simulating fracturing processes, but without efforts for domain integral transformation, a hybrid approach is developed to simulate the fracturing processes in rock pillar under coupled thermo-mechanical loading. The code FRACOD was used for simulating the fracture initiation and propagation processes with its boundary tractions reflecting the effects of the initial and redistributed thermomechanical stresses in the domain of interest at multiple excavation and heating steps were produced by a special algorithm of stress inversion, based on resultant thermo-mechanical stress fields at each excavation and heat loading step by a FEM code without considering fracturing processes. This hybrid approach can take the advantages of both types of numerical methods and avoids their shortcomings for fracturing process simulation and domain effects, respectively. In this paper, we present the hybrid approach for the stress, displacements, and fracturing processes at sequential excavation and heating steps of the in situ heater test as a predictive modelling, the formulation of the fracturing models and the predictive results. Two sections of borehole depth, 0.5 m and 1.5 m below the tunnel floor are considered. The pillar area is modelled with the FRACOD and the stress field produced by excavation and heating is transferred with corresponding boundary stresses. From the modelling results, the degree of fracturing and damage are evaluated for 120 days of heating. Dominated shear fracturing in the vicinity of the central pillar was observed from the models at both sections, but spalled area appears to be limited. Based on the modelling results, a sensitivity study for the effect of pre-existing fractures in the vicinity of the holes is also conducted, and the initiation and evolution of EDZ around the deposition holes are investigated using this particular numerical technique.
