This study was performed to investigate the surface properties of electrochemically oxidized pure niobium by anodic oxide and hydrothermal treatment technique. Niobium specimens of $10mm\times10mm\times1.0mm$ in dimension were polished sequentially from $\#600,\;\#800,\;\#1000$ emery paper. The surface of pure niobium sperimens was anodized in an electrolytic solution that was dissolved calcium and phosphate in water. The electrolytic voltage was set in the range of 250 V and the current density was $10mA/cm^2$. The specimen was hydrothermal treated in high-pressure steam at $300^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours using an autoclave. And all specimens were immersed in the in the Hanks' solution nth pH 7.4 at $37^{\circ}C$ for 30 days. The surface of specimen was characterized by surface roughness, scanning electron microscope(SEM), energy dispersion X-ray analysis(EDX), X-ray photoemission spectroscopy(XPS) test. The value of surface roughness was the highest in the anodized sample and $0.41{\pm}0.04\;{\mu}m$. The results of the SEM observation show that oxide layers of the multi porosity in the anodized sample were piled up on another, and hydroxyapatite crystal was precipitate from the surface of the hydrothermal treated sample. In the XPS analysis, O, Nb, C peak and small amounts of N peak were found in the polished specimens while Ca and P peak in addition to O, Nb, C and peak were observed in the hydrothermal treated sample.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of surface tretment on strength of denture repair as influenced by repair resin. Specimens were fabricated from VERTEX heat cured resin. Rectangular specimens($60\times10\times3mm$) were prepared according to the manufacturer's instruction for mixing and packing the resin into molds. Two methods of surface treatment were used and two methods of repair were also tested. The transverse strength of the resin was measured before repair and after repair by AUTOGRAPH testing machine. Six specimens of each category were prepared for testing for a total of 24 specimens. The mean value of the percent of recovery was calculated from the percent of recovery for six specimens. The results were as follows : 1. The mean value of the percent of recovery of each category makes a significant difference statistically one another(p<0.01), and "C" category, chloroform solvent-heat cured resin, has a better effect on repair srength than any other. 2. When no chloroform is used to treat the fractured surface there is no significant difference between the mean values of the percent of recovery influenced by the self curing resin and heat cured resin. But, when chloroform is used there is a significant difference between the two repair resins(p<0.01). 3. When self curing resin repair is used there is no significant difference between repair with and without the surface treatment of chloroform. But, when heat cured resin repair is used the use of chloroform treatment become significant statistically (p<0.01).
Partial or complete prosthesis is needed when teeth are lost due to various kinds of reason. Artificial teeth recover occlusion instead of natural teeth. Artificial teeth are required of esthetics, fragile resistance and abrasive resistance. Artificial tooth is made of acrylic resin or porcelain. Nowadays, acrylic resin artificial teeth are mainly used. Acrylic resin teeth are occluded with natural teeth, gold alloy, Ni-Cr alloy or porcelain etc. Acrylic resin teeth have similar translucency, gloss of natural teeth. And it has good chemical bond with denture base material, but it has low wear resistance. The aim of this study is to compare wear resistance among several denture teeth(Endura, SR-orthosit-PE, Planustar) and between artificial resin denture teeth and opposing 3 restorative materials(gold, Ni-Cr alloy, porcelain). Wear tests were conducted with a rotating wear testing apparatus(pin-on-disk type wear tester) under conditions of rpm 180, 75 minutes and constant loading of 50N. The upper part was the cusp of maxillary first molar and the lower part was a disk type restorative materials. To make similar oral environment, water was supplied continually. The acrylic resin teeth wear was determined by weighing the cusp each 5 minutes during 75 minutes test. Vicker's hardness tester was used to evaluate the surface hardness of test specimens. The SEM was used to evaluate the wear surfaces. The results were as follows: 1. Wear rates of acrylic resin teeth opposing to the restorative materials were high in order of Porcelain, Gold, Ni-Cr alloy (p<.05). 2. Wear resistance rate opposing to the Porcelain disk, was shown in order of Endura, SR-orthosit-PE, Planustar. The wear rate of opposing to porcelain disk was above two times more than that of other groups (p<.05). 3. Wear resistance rates opposing to the Gold, Ni-Cr alloy disk, was shown in order of Endura, SR-orthosit-PE, Planustar (p<.05). 4. A degree of the surface hardness is directly proportional to the degree of wear resistance. There are statistically significant differences between each groups (p<.05).
The purpose of this study is to widen the subject of research to the whole social activity, which is divided into the following four categories in the previous study on "Reality of social activity of senior citizen": 1. work 2. social participation and volunteer activity 3. learning activity 4. individual activity, and to clarify which category is most related to the masticatory ability. There were 57korean subjects in the survey: aged 65 through 85 (73.8$\pm$5.5), 81 women: aged 65 through 85 (74.3$\pm$5.3), a total of 138: aged 65 through 85 (74.1$\pm$5.4), in College for senior citizen of A city, Buddhist College for senior citizen of A city and senior citizen's welfare facility of A city who gave consent to the research The Japanese subject were 38 men: aged 65 through 85(75.3$\pm$5.4), 54 women: aged 65 through 85(75.5$\pm$5.2), a total of 92: aged 65 through 85(75.4$\pm$5.2) in women's division of F city Federation of Senior Citizens' Club, Otsuka division of B ward Federation of Senior Citizens' Club and S ward Federation of Senior Citizens' Club who gave consent to the research. The major findings were as follows: A social activity, individual activity were active in a social activity domain on a day so that people of Japanese advanced age had you, and writing ability was high, and, as for freezing, learning activity was active for people of Korean advanced age in a social activity domain so that writing ability was high.
The purpose of this study was to show the method of three-dimensional morphometry developed recently and to compare the accuracy of three-dimensional morphometry with those of PA cephalometry, The three-dimensional morphometry analysis program and device were developed. Steel balls (1.2mm in diameter) were attached in twenty five landmarks of artificial human skull. This artificial human skull was used as experimental materials. From three-dimensional morphometry and PA cephalometry of artificial human skull. eleven linear measurements were acquired and made into asymmetry index. Right-left differences of measurements were used as asymmetry index. These measurements and asymmetry index were compared respectively with those of actual. The results were as follows: 1. Mean difference between three-dimensional morphometry and actual artificial human skull in linear measurements was $1.99{\pm}0.37mm$, and mean difference between PA cephalometry and actual was $21.12{\pm}0.45mm$. Both of all were reduced more than those of actual. 2. Mean difference between three-dimensional morphometry and actual artificial human skull in asymmetry index was $0.07{\pm}0.42$, and mean difference between PA cephalometry and actual was $3.63{\pm}0.60$. Three-dimensional morphometry was reduced while PA cephalometry was magnified more than that of actual. 3. Each eleven asymmetry index of three-dimensional morphometry was the same negative sign as those of actuals while only N-Z, ANS-J, Tr-Go, Tr-ANS asymmetry index were the same in PA cephalometry. These results suggest that the method of three-dimensional morphometry is more accurate than those of PA cephalometry in asymmetry analysis.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the microstucture and hardness, corrosion of pure Ti alloy, which is widely used as partial denture frame work these days, depending on the cooling method, followed by casting. The first group was bench cooling at room temperature($18^{\circ}C$), the second group was slowly cooled in the furnace from $700^{\circ}C$ to room temperature, and third. rapidly cooled in $0^{\circ}C$ water. The microstructure of each specimen observed by means of photomicrograph taken by electron microscope, in add to the physical characteristics of each specimen were obtained using the rockwell Hardnest Number. the characteristics of corrosion. The results were obtained as follows: 1. From Potentiodynamic plot. we conclude furnace-cooled specimen had the best stabiltity of passive film and that air-cooled specimen showed similar characteristics. The density of electric current of quenched specimen was the highest, which formed kind of unstable passive film. 2. Specimen cooled at room temperature (air cooling) had the highest value of hardness of 81.26HRB, specimen cooled at ice-water, $0^{\circ}C$, had the value of 78.42HRB, and specimen furnace-cooled at $700^{\circ}C$ had lowest value of 77.1HRB. 3. Quenching treated micro-structure formed martensite structure by and large. In case of air cooling, we could see $\alpha$-structure widmanstatten formed overall. In furnace cooling, widmanstatten structure and various shape $\alpha$-structures forming colony with direction were detected.
Purpose: Waste parts of zirconia blocks and powders were remained after CAD/CAM process. In order to make these residual zirconia fit for practical use, zirconia single cores were produced by drain casting process. Methods: Remained zirconia blocks were reduced to powders with zirconia mortar, and screened with 180 mesh sieve. Zirconia slip was prepared from waste parts of zirconia by ball milling. Plaster molds for forming cores by slip casting were also prepared. Formed cores were removed from mold after partial drying. Dried cores were biscuit fired at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 1hour. Biscuit fired cores were treated with tools to control the fitness and thickness. Finished cores were $2^{nd}$ fired at $1,500^{\circ}C$ for 1hour. Microstructure of cross section of core was observed by SEM. Results: When mill pot was filled with 100g of zirconia and alumina mixed powder, 300g of zirconia ball, and 180g of distilled water, the optimum slip for drain casting was obtained. Gypsum plaster for ceramic forming was more suitable then yellow stone plaster for casting process. SEM photograph showed the microstructure of fully dense with uniform grain size of zirconia and well dispersed alumina grains into the zirconia matrix. Conclusion: Zirconia single cores were produced by drain casting process. Drain casting is useful process to make these residual zirconia fit for practical use. Further study will be focused on the preparation of the bridge type cores by casting.
This study is to show the qualitative analytic methods of facial asymmetry with three-dimensional morphometry and find out asymmetry change resulted from enlarging three local regions. Steel balls (1.2mm in diameter) were attached in twenty seven landmarks of a symmetrical artificial human skull. This artificial human skull was used as experimental materials. Twelve different asymmetrical artificial human skulls were formed by gradually enlarging the mandibular body length, gonial angle, and ramus height of the left hemiface. From the three-dimensional morphometry of each skull type, nine local area measurements and three total sum area measurements(representing the mandibular area, maxillary area, and lower facial area) were acquired and made into the surface area asymmetry degree. Menton deviation itself was used as the surface area asymmetry degree while right-left percentages were used in the other measurements. These surface area asymmetry degrees were compared with each other to find out asymmetry change according to the degree of actual facial asymmetry. Through the statistical analysis, following results were obtained. The results were as follows: 1. Left maxillary area of artificial human skull was 7.13$\pm$0.26% larger while mandibular area was 4.14$\pm$0.12% smaller than each those of right hemiface. After all, left lower facial area was 1.44$\pm$0.07% larger than those of right hemiface.(n=7). 2. Among the reduce rates of surface area asymmetry degree resulted from enlarging three local regions, ramus height was similar to mandibular body length while it was bigger than those of gonial angle. 3. Among the increase rates of menton deviation resulted from enlarging the local regions, ramus height was the biggest, mandibular body length was the second and gonial angle was the smallest. These results suggest that three-dimensional morphometry can be used to qualitatively analyse facial asymmetry and the asymmetry degree is more influenced by enlarging the ramus height, mandibular body length than those of gonial angle.
This study is to measure and compare the hardness and tensile strength of each time after we recast seven times continually only with and metal alloy Chromium-Cobalt alloy used in the production of partial denture frame work. The result of the experiment were as follow; 1) The result of the hardness measurement The result of the first casting was $490.48{\pm}38.38$ and that of the second recasting was $455.18{\pm}35.61$ and form the third recasting. the result were $518.38{\pm}37.68$ and over. The change of the hardness difference between each recasting was as follow; The hardness difference between the first casting and the second recasting was $35.25{\pm}31.93$ and that between the second recasting and the third recasting was $63.20{\pm}54.02$. There was a statistically significant difference(P<0.01) in the above hardness, however, there was little difference on the whole. And after the third recasting, the hardness grew high a little bit. That is why low-melting metals such as Cr, Mn, Cu of alloy ingredient was evaporated or there was an effect of changes in metal crystal structure, I suppose. 2) The result of the tensile strength measurement. There was a statistically significant difference(P<0.01) between the first casting and the second, the fourth recasting, however. there was little difference in general.
