Purpose: To investigate blue light rejection and the percentage of blue light in the visible light of blue light blocking lens according to light source, and to study prescriptions for blue light blocking lens Methods: UV-VIS spectrophotometer was used for blue light rejection and the percentage of blue light in the visible light according to light source, and the percentage of blue light in solar light was used to evaluate the prescription for blue light blocking lens. Results: The blue light rejection and the percentage of blue light in the visible light of each lens were depending on light sources. Through the way to compare the percentages of blue light in the visible light passing through the lens with that in solar light, blue light blocking lenses suitable to each light source could been selected. Conclusions: In the prescription for blue light blocking lens, inquiry for user's display must be preceded. And then the percentages of blue light in the visible light passing through the lens based on that in solar light may be useful as a method of evaluating the prescription for blue light blocking lens.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the corneal topographical changes associated with the wearing of everted silicone hydrogel soft lenses. Methods: The shape and fluorescein pattern of everted silicone hydrogel lenses were investigated. The subject wore the silicone hydrogel everted lenses overnight for 8 hours. Objective refractive error and corneal shape were evaluated at baseline, 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 days after lens wearing and 1,2,3, and 4 days after discontinuation of lens wear. Results: The Fluorescein pattern of everted silicone hydrogel lenses was similar to the reverse geometry lenses with pressure profile. Objective refractive error(sphere power) and corneal refractive power were decreased and corneal shape had changed during the everted silicone hydrogel lenses wear and recovered during the 4 days of discontinuation. Subject experienced no discomfort associated with the everted silicone hydrogel lenses. Conclusions: It appears that everted silicone hydrogel lenses are capable of inducing significant changes in corneal topography, with overnight wear. Further study must be done to help understand these changes to develop a predictable and effective way of using soft contact lenses for corneal reshaping.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate correlation between convergence insufficiency and concentration by evaluating attentiveness in children who have convergence insufficiency symptoms. Methods: The CISS survey and examination for the near point of convergence were conducted to 74 in children aged 12 to 13 years in order to divide them into a normal binocular vision (NBV) and a convergence insufficiency (CI) group. The attentiveness examination was used to all subjects to figure out their emotional problems, hyperactivity and impulsiveness problems, and managerial or functional problems with a 5-point scale. Correlation between convergence insufficiency-related symptoms included in CISS and attentiveness problems was analyzed. Results: there were 29 children (39.2%) in the CI group, the mean scores of CISS of the NBV and CI group were $5.91{\pm}3.69$ and $18.31{\pm}7.00$ each (p<0.001). On the survey of CISS symptoms, children in the CI group frequently expressed such symptoms as eye fatigue, loss of attentiveness, blurry vision, and forgetting the line they have been reading. In the attentiveness examination, the CI group ($74.83{\pm}9.83$) gained higher scores in problematic concentration than the NBV group ($46.80{\pm}11.30$). Convergence insufficiency had significantly positive correlation with total attentiveness (r=0.798). Conclusions: In elementary school students, it has been found that when perceived symptoms related with convergence insufficiency are more serious, problematic attentiveness gets serious, too.
Purpose: To understand symptoms and signs in soft contact lens wearers the authors evaluate the attribution of the tear test to the contact lens related symptoms and signs. Methods: Sixty-two healthy soft contact lens wearers (23.95${\pm}$4.38 years old, 18.60${\pm}$16.92 months of prior lens wear) were participated in this study. 3 kinds of tear test and McMonnies' questionnaire test were performed for the soft contact lens wearers and subjective symptoms and objective signs were graded using CCLRU scales during the study period. Results: In this surveys, we found ocular dryness, redness and tiredness are the most common frequent and severe symptoms in soft contact lens wearers. Frequency of the ocular dryness, redness and tiredness are associated with grittiness, burning sensation and foreign body sensation respectively, and severity of the photophobia, foreign body sensation are associated with unstable vision and grittiness and which are associated with score of McMonnies' Questionnaire. Conjunctival redness and limbal redness are major signs but those are not need to be clinical care and rarely occurred corneal and conjunctival staining which are associated with tear break-up-time statistically. Conclusions: Dryness, redness and tiredness are primary common symptoms in Korean soft contact lens wearers. The frequency of those symptoms are increased with the period of soft contact lens wear and those are associated with other symptoms but have no relationship with signs.
Purpose: To study the effect of an artificially induced dioptric blur on acuity and contrast sensitivity using the $Optec^{(R)}$ 6500. Methods: Healthy 31 subjects aged $22.90{\pm}1.92$ (male 16, female 15) who were recruited from university students with 6/6 (20/20) or better corrected visual acuity and normal binocularity. They were measured objective and subjective refraction for full correction and dioptric blur using 0.00 ~ +3.00 D (+0.50 D steps) trial lenses and trial frame. They were measured binocularly visual acuity and contrast sensitivity with the $Optec^{(R)}$ 6500 (Stereo Optical Co., Inc., Chicago, Illinois, USA) under day conditions (photopic condition, $85cd/m^2$). Results: The higher dioptric blur, the less distance visual acuity and decrease rate of visual acuity. The higher dioptric blur, the less contrast sensitivity at all frequencies, and the peak of contrast sensitivity was shifted from middle frequency (6 cpd) to low frequency (1.5 cpd). When the visual acuity was best visual acuity to 0.77, there was the peak point at 6 cpd which was normal contrast sensitivity peak point. Conclusions: If the low refractive error is uncorrected or the refractive error is inappropriate, the contrast sensitivity is decreased and the peak point of contrast sensitivity frequency is shifted abnormally though small uncorrected refractive error. So it will be considered that regular eye test and decision of refractive error correction is important.
Purpose: We compared static retinoscopy in eyes opened with cycloplegic refraction depending on the hyperopia for school-aged children. Methods: There were 59 eyes (30 patients) who were divided into 3 groups - the mild hyperopia (+0.25 D ~ +1.00 D), moderate hyperopia (+1.25 D ~ +2.00 D) and high hyperopia (+2.25 D or more). They all had 0.8 visual acuity or more. Autorefraction and retinoscopy were performed prior to cycloplegic refraction, and then copmared with manifest refraction and cycloplegic refraction. Results: Hyperopia measured with static retinoscopy tends to be measured higher than manifest refraction for school-aged children. Changes of spherical power was statistically significant (p < 0.001). Changes of astigmatism was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Conclusions: The difference between cycloplegic refraction and static retinoscopy was not significant for hyperopic school-aged children. The use of retinoscopy was limited for opticians because of legal constraints. The usage of static retinoscopy in eyes opened for optician should be generalized under the conditions not using the cycloplegic.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the convergence accommodation to convergence (CA/C) ratio and to investigate relationships among age, accommodative amplitude and PD (interpupillary distance) of adults in their early twenties with normal binocular vision. Methods: 44 subjects (mean age, $21.75{\pm}1.16$ years) with healthy eyes were examined. The CA/C ratios were measured by using the difference of Gaussian (DOG) target with retinoscopy. Results: The mean CA/C ratio was $0.052{\pm}0.017$ D/$\Delta$. A moderate negative correction was present between CA/C ratio and age (r = -0.50, p = 0.0005), and a highly positive correction was found between CA/C ratio and accommodative amplitude (r = 0.79, p<0.0001). There was no relation between PD and CA/C ratio. Conclusions: The CA/C ratio presented was mean value for adults in their early twenties with healthy eye between 19 and 25 years of age. There was a high correlation between accommodative amplitude and CA/C ratio. Therefore, the CA/C ratio will be useful basic information for comparison in age, gender and binocular anomalies with similar data from other countries.
Purpose: This study was designed to be used as the basic visual function data after analyzing and investigating the refractive errors variation between city and rural elementary school children. Methods: To compare with city and rural areas, 2501 elementary school children who lived in Mokpo, Yeongam, Muan, Hampyeong were participated. Objective refraction, Subjective refraction and binocular function examinations were measured. Results: Mean of refractive error of rural areas was -1.47 D in 2012 years, -1.52 D in 2013 years, and -1.40 D in 2014 years. However average of refractive error was -1.65 D in 2012 years, -1.76 D in 2013 years and -1.75 D in 2014 years who lives in city areas. Average myopia was showed higher who lives in rural areas elementary school children than city areas elementary school children. There were significant differences between rural areas and city areas elementary school children (p = 0.03), but there were no significant differences by averagre hyperopia (p = 0.32). Average myopia was showed the tendency of increase as the students get older by analysis compare with rural and city areas elementary school children. It also showed high prevalence of myopia who lives in city areas elementary school children compare with lives in rural areas elementary school children. Conclusions: It is the very important to performed regular visual acuity test and correction during the largest refractive change period and it is necessary to have experts in the visual acuity test.
Purpose: The kappa angles of human eye were measured by photographs. The relationship between the dominant eye and far refractivity is studied. Methods: 112 adults participated in this study. The mean age was $22.54{\pm}5.90$ years. The kappa angles were measured by the deviation of the flash image in the photographs of eye. the dominant eye and the far refractivity were analyzed. Results: The distributions of kappa angles were 78.6% (176 eyes) in the positive angle, 15.2% (34 eyes) in the negative angle, and 6.2% (14 eyes) in the $0^{\circ}$. The kappa angles were $4.50{\pm}4.70^{\circ}$ for the dominant eye, $4.93{\pm}4.34^{\circ}$ for the non-dominant eye, $+6.00{\pm}2.22^{\circ}$ for the hypermetropia, $4.91{\pm}4.97^{\circ}$ for the emmetropia, and $+4.61{\pm}4.49^{\circ}$ for the myopia. The biggest kappa angles was odserved in the hypermetropia and the angles was getting smaller in the emmetropia, and the myopia. Conclusions: The kappa angle of the dominant eye was smaller than non-dominant eye. The kappa angle was smaller as the far refractivity is lower. The kappa angle can be directly measured by the photographic method.

$MgIn_2Se_4 and MgIn_2Se_4 : Ni^{2+}$ single crystals were grown in the rhombohedral structure by the chemical transport reaction (C.T.R.) method using iodine as a transport agent. The optical absorption measured near the fundamental band edge showed that the optical energy band structure of these compounds had a direct band gap. The fundamental absorption band edge of these single crystals shift to a shorter wavelength region by decreasing temperature and the temperature dependence of the optical energy gaps in these compounds satisfy Varshni equation. The impurity optical absorption peaks due to nickel are observed in $MgIn_2Se_4 and MgIn_2Se_4 : Ni^{2+}$ single crystal. These impurity optical absorption peaks can be attributed to the electronic transitions between the split energy levels of $Ni_{2+}$ ions located at $T_d$ symmetry site of $MgIn_2Se_4$ host lattice. In the hotoluminescence spectrum of the single crystal at 10 K, a blue emission with a peak at 687nm and a green emission with a peak at 815nm for the $MgIn_2Se_4$ single crystal were observed.
