Dynamic Dependability Level Switching Strategies by Utilizing Threat Predictions

  • A System can be more Dependable from some types of Threats if the Dependability Level Against the Threat on the System is Increased. However, The Dependability-performance Tradeoff should be Considered because the Increased Dependability may Degrade the Performance of the System. Therefore, it is Efficient to Temporally Increase the Dependability Level to High only when an Threat is Predicted on the System in a Short time while Maintaining the Level in Low or mid in Normal Situations. In this Paper, we Present a Threat Prevention Strategy for a Networked Node by Dynamically Changing the Dependability Level According to the Threat Situation on its Logically/physically Neighboring Nodes. As case Studies, we Employ our Strategy to an Internet Server Against TCP SYN Flood Attacks and to a Checkpoint and Rollback System Against Transient Faults. Our Performance Analysis Shows that our Strategy can Effectively Relieve the Damage of the Failure without Serious Performance Degradation.

A Study on FRACAS-based Dependability Control Platform for Domestic Urban Railway Trains (국내 도시철도 차량을 위한 FRACAS 기반의 신인성 관리 플랫폼 연구)

  • This paper describes a study on the FRACAS(Failure Reporting Analysis and Corrective Action System)-based dependability control platform for domestic urban railway trains. There are more demands for the verification of the dependability of trains as it becomes a regulation for train manufacturers to verify the dependability recently. Train manufacturers as well as railway operators need a effective FRACAS solution to perform the verification of the dependability. Yet current FRACAS solutions have limitations to support the verification processes effectively. This paper addresses the issues of current FRACAS solutions and suggests a FRACAS framework designed for the domestic urban railway trains. Service failure scenarios are standardized using the proposed availability model to implement a more user-friendly and reliable platform. A new FRACAS-based platform for the dependability control (SCARF®) has been developed to implement the suggested framework. The detail interfaces and functions of the platform are explained. The SCARF® platform is expected to engage the increasing demands for the dependability control successfully enhancing the reliability, maintainability, availability and safety of domestic urban railway trains eventually.

Service-Dependability-Case based Self-Adaptation in Service-Oriented Environment (서비스 지향 컴퓨팅 환경에서 서비스 안정성 케이스 기반 자가 적응 방법)

  • In a distributed system environment based on a service-oriented architecture, separate systems collaborate to achieve the goals of the entire system by using services provided other systems. A service quality violation from using one service can cause runtime system failure in the environment. The existing self-adaptation methods follow fault tolerance mechanism that responds to a failure after a service quality violation. In other words, these methods are limited to responsive action. Therefore, a service-dependability-case based self-adaptation mechanism is necessary to preserve the dependability of the self-adaptive system. This paper demonstrates that the service-dependability-case based self-adaptation mechanism is better than QoS(quality of service)-based self-adaptation with fault tolerance to preserve the dependability of the self-adaptive system. Additionally, this paper suggests a method to present and analyze service dependability by using GSN(Goal Structuring Notation) which is the existing modeling method for the presentation of assurance cases, an action mechanism adapted using an analysis result of service-dependability-cases, a methods of leveraging the service-dependability-case based self-adaptation mechanism by following the service's life cycle, and the framework architecture including the major components and the interactions between the components in the control loop of the self-adaptation process.

  • In this paper, we introduce IEC 60300(Dependability program management) into urban transit system, and propose effective method to apply IEC 60300 to Subway Corporation. The dependability is the collective term used to describe the availability performance and its influencing factors such as reliability performance, maintainability performance and maintenance support performance. A dependability program covers all phases of a system's life cycle from planning to operation and possibly disposal, and is composed of program elements divided into tasks.

  • 현재 기업에서는 제품인증과 경영시스템인증의 신뢰성 확보가 중요한 과제이다. 이는 제품개발 중심에서 제품 및 프로세스의 통합 개발 중심으로 연구의 필요성을 제시 해주고 있다. 따라서, 정적인 제품인증에서 동적인 시스템인증의 필요성이 대두되면서 신뢰성경영시스템(DMS; Dependability Management System; IEC60300)이 요구되어진다. 제품개발의 프로세스에서 발생되는 신뢰성 문제점들을 해결하기 위하여 트리즈(TRIZ ; Theory of Inventive Problem Solving) 기법을 활용하였다. 본 연구에서는 창의적 문제해결 방법론인 트리즈기법을 활용하여 신뢰성경영시스템에서 제품 및 프로세스 통합개발(IPPD; Integrated Product and Process Development)을 하고자 한다. 결과적으로 창의적 신뢰성경영시스템(CDMS; Creative Dependability Management System)을 제품 및 프로세스 통합개발 모델로 제시한다.
