Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the oral health condition, recognition, and practice in prisoners. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 143 prisoners in three jails from April 7 to June 2, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of 35 questions including 5 questions of general characteristics of the subjects, 4 questions of subjective oral health condition, 5 questions of management of oral health care, 11 questions of oral health recognition, and 10 questions of oral health practice. The questionnaire was adopted and modified by Shon et al. and Cho & Choi and measured by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach's alpha was 0.845 in recognition questions and Cronbach's alpha was 0.826 in the practice questions. The data were analyzed using SPSS 18.0 for t-test, one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) and Pearson's correlation analysis. Results: 21.0% of prisoners answered that their perceived oral health condition was good. Those who received the dental treatment accounted for 42.0% and 12.6% of them took the oral health education. There was a significantly negative relationship between perceived oral health and oral health recognition(p<0.05). The oral health recognition showed positive influence on oral health practice(p<0.001). Conclusions: In general, prisoners did not receive the proper care of oral health in jails. Therefore, It is desirable that we need to set up a oral health care system for prisoners.
Modern endodontics has essentially changed following the introduction of the dental microscope since 1990's. One of main advantage of using dental microscope in nonsurgical endodontic treatment is enhancing clinician's ability and quality of treatment through illumination and magnification. Scopes of dental microscope in nonsurgical endodontics are finding a missed or additional root canal and a tooth crack, management of procedural errors, and others. These improvements in technology will result in greater confidence in treatment and better success in clinical practice.
The aim of this study was to investigate the caries management by risk assessment (CAMBRA) development process and the latest updated caries risk assessment for the domestic settlement of the CAMBRA program and the activation of dental clinics. A system for CAMBRA was published in California Dental Association (CDA) in 2007. To investigate whether CAMBRA can be successfully implemented outside a university setting, a practice-based research network (PBRN) was created in the San Francisco Bay Area. Based on the CAMBRA-PRAN clinical studies, the caries risk assessment (CRA) tool was updated for patients aged 6 through adults in 2019. The CAMBRA system is expected to be widely and actively used in the dental field in Korea to contribute to oral health care.

Such a program would stress the importance of the protection of patients' personal information for dental hygiene students obtaining clinical practice. A total of 543 questionnaires were included in the analysis. Results: The results of this study were as follows: 1) the average score for awareness of the Patient Privacy Act was 2.93 on a 4-point scale; 2) the average score for the recognition of the protection of patients' personal information was 3.22 on a 4-point scale; 3) the area-based perception of the protection of patient's personal information was 3.37 points for communication, which scored highest, followed-by the linked-work area at 3.27 points, the patient's information management at 3.22 points, and the direct dental hygiene work at 3.18 points; 4) with regard to awareness of the protection of patients' personal information according to general characteristics, the perception was higher in the advanced academic year (p < 0.01), in those who had education regarding the protection of patients' personal information at both the university and the clinical practice institution (p < .05), and in those with higher grades (p < 0.01). Conclusions: Based on the above findings, the development and application of an educational program to improve awareness of the protection of patients' personal information are considered to be necessary by both universities and clinical practice institutions.

Dental erosion is frequently overlooked in clinical practice. The management of erosion-induced damage to the dentition is often delayed, such that extensive occlusal rehabilitation is required. These cases can be diagnosed by a careful clinical examination and a thorough review of the patient's medical history and/or lifestyle habits. This case report presents the diagnosis, categorization, and management of a case of gastro-esophageal reflux disease-induced palatal erosion of the maxillary teeth. The early management of such cases is of utmost importance to delay or prevent the progression of damage both to the dentition and to occlusal stability. Non-invasive adhesively bonded restorations aid in achieving this goal.
To investigate the actual conditions management of infectious prevention in dental office, questionnaire about infection control and education of infection control was performed on 50 dentists, 176 dental hygienists, 100 aide nurses who are working in Deagu City from march to April, 2007. The results are as the following. Dentists are the highest on the health inspection's ratio, dental hygienists are the highest on vaccination's ratio. Experience ratio about education of infection control is the highest on dentist and the lowest on aide nurses(p < 0.05). Dental hygienists are higher than dentists and aide nurses on ratio of wearing protective gear(p < 0.05). Dentists have the highest ratio on washing hands after treat(p < 0.05). Practice of instrument's sterilization is higher in dental hygienist than other groups. This study aims to determine the changes in health beliefs and practices of dental hygienists on infection control after having received special training on that subject. The study population consisted of dental hygienists working at the dental institutions located in Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. The intervention group and the control group each had randomly assigned 26 dental hygienists. The intervention group received training courses on infection control once a week for 3 hours, for a total of 4 training sessions. We used a survey tool to find the changes between the two groups regarding their health beliefs and practices on infection control measures. The survey was conducted prior to the training sessions, 3 months and 2 weeks after the training. The study results revealed statistically significant increases in perceived sensitivity, perceived seriousness, and perceived benefits after the training courses in the intervention group (p<0.05). A statistically significant decrease in perceived barriers was also noted in the intervention group (p<0.05). Additionally, there was a statistically significant increase in the practice of infection control in the intervention group as compared to the control group (p<0.05). Therefore, we conclude that infection control training is crucial in bringing about positive changes to the health beliefs of dental hygienists, and a structured system is necessary for continuous infection management along with training in order to improve infection control practices.
The purpose of this study is to discuss the economic outlook of dentistry in relation to pessimistic economic perspectives of Korea and to present subsequent solutions. The expectation of the future economic growth rate of Korea is gloom with not only a love rate of increase in population due to an aging society and a low birthrate, but also with a declined number of productive populations. Moreover, the future of dentistry in Korea is obscure. Even with a dwindling population growth, an average of 750 new dentists graduate from dental school every year. The 30-35% of the new graduates practice in public hospitals; and 65~70% of them open up their own private practices, However, unlike in the past, the occurrence of dental practice bankruptcy has been increasing with a competitive environment, excessive initial investment, knowledgeable patients, and etc. Therefore, it is essential to re-evaluate the number of new graduates. Also, it is necessary to supply a greater number of public hospitals with newly licensed dentists, who have various clinic experience, participate in research and development, and experience appropriate hospital management skills.

The sample was analyzed for the final 351. Results: Dental hygiene students' communication ability was 3.74 points, conflict management types was 3.01 points, and adaptation to college life was 3.30 points. In the type of conflict management according to the general characteristics, the problem-solving method, the avoidance method, the compromise method, and the concession method showed statistically significant differences in major satisfaction. Among the types of conflict management, the highest positive correlation (r=0.613) was shown in the relationship between the problem-solving method and the compromise method. Factors influencing the adaptation to college life were concentration, forced method, self-disclosure, conversational coherence, and social relaxation. Conclusion: This study is significant in that it derives sub-areas of communication ability and conflict management types that influence adaptation to college life. In the future, there is a need to improve the quality of dental hygienists by continuously conducting research on the types of conflict management targeting dental hygienists, and responding more proactively and actively to conflict situations in the clinical field.
