  • This study aimed to determine the association between stress recognition and oral symptom experiences among adolescents. We analyzed it, based on the 14th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (2018), using the chi-square test and logistic regression. The distribution rate of stress recognition and oral symptom experience within one year were 81.7% and 48.9%, respectively. The group with stress recognition had a higher rate (52.2%) of oral symptom experience than the group that did not recognize stress (p<0.001). In the stress recognition group, the odds ratio for oral symptom experience was 1.86 (95% CI: 1.78-1.95). We suggest that stress is associated with oral health in adolescents. In the future, it will be necessary to study stress relief and oral health education in adolescents.

  • It is important that students are provided opportunities to practice their skills in acquiring radiographic images. However, these opportunities are currently limited because of the risk of radiation exposure. To overcome this limitation, a new augmented reality-based radiography simulator was developed that enables students to practice radiographic techniques as part of self-directed learning without time and space constraints. Subsequently, cross-sectional images of a manikin phantom head obtained via computed tomography were reconstructed into a three-dimensional object. An image marker that could be recognized by a mobile device and could allow users to practice dental radiography techniques was devised. The three-dimensional object was augmented to the mobile device; consequently, among 106 stored dental radiographs on the device, a radiograph corresponding to specific imaging conditions was opened when users performed radiographic procedures. This technology could improve dental students' understanding of dental anatomy and contribute to improving their competency in acquiring dental radiographs.

The study was conducted on a total of 232 military personnel aged 19 or older who were employed in the military. The questionnaire for this study was commissioned to respond by explaining the purpose of the study and how to respond to the survey by telephone with the selected sub-employer. The content included in the questionnaire consisted of general characteristics, oral care status, and awareness of dental hygienists. When the subjective oral health condition was poor, normal, or good, it was all shown that the toothbrush was done more than three times a day, and the oral examination was all examined. In particular, 68.1 percent of the respondents said they were in good subjective health. Preventive treatment was the highest in the group with good subjective oral health. Of the total respondents, 83.6 percent said "yes" to the question of knowing dental hygienists, while 65.5 percent said "yes" to the question of whether they know the work of dental hygienists, recognizing that most of the respondents were aware of dental hygienists and their work. Both the group that said they knew the dental hygienist and the group that said they did not know answered 43.5% as an assistant. In conclusion, oral health projects will have to be carried out in line with military situations in order to maintain a healthy oral state of professional soldiers, and long-term planning for active oral health care, especially as an important role of personnel in charge of health care in the military is needed.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate radiation safety education, knowledge and practice of dental hygienists in using handheld portable intraoral X-ray equipment and to suggest the need for radiation safety education in using handheld portable intraoral X-ray equipment. Methods: We surveyed 223 dental hygienists from July, 2017 to August in the dental clinics of Daejeon, Seoul and Gyeonggi area. Results: Radiation safety educational experience was higher in a year's career (72.9%), than 3 years experience (32.5%) (p<0.05). 82.7% of dental clinic workers took university education for radiation safety education while 55.6% of dental hospital workers took company training (p<0.05). More than 70% of the subjects did not have experience of radiation safety education about using portable intraoral X-ray. Radiation safety knowledge was highest in a year's career (p<0.05). The cumulative dose, radiation sensitivity, and lead defense knowledge were high in all subjects, but knowledge related to scattering radiation and scattering radiation sources was low. Practice of portable intraoral X-ray safety was significantly lower than knowledge. Conclusions: Knowledge of portable intraoral radiography safety is available, but performance is poor. Even with the small amount of radiation exposure, the risk is perceivable. There is a need to actively utilize the provided radiation protection products. In order to do this, efforts should be made to improve knowledge and performance of radiation safety through not only college education but also postemployment training.
