The Korea retrospective dosimetry (KREDOS)-electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) group undertook an intercomparison investigation utilizing hydroxyapatite. This analysis involved four institutions: the Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences, Dongnam Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences, Korean Association for Radiation Application, and Radiation Health Institute of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power. Following the irradiation of the hydroxyapatite sample, the recorded build-up was analyzed. To validate the reliability of the EPR dosimetry findings and enhance its operational performance, a hydroxyapatite dose-response curve was plotted and dosimetry was performed for a blind sample. The proficiency of each laboratory was assessed by employing an interlaboratory comparison methodology. This involved a comparative analysis of the measurement results by calculating the relative bias, z-score, and En value. The results submitted by the participating laboratories demonstrated satisfactory ratings for doses of 1.006, 3.999, and 6.993 Gy. Following the second intercomparison, efforts to optimize their hydroxyapatite-EPR dosimetry systems are underway in the participating laboratories. The current assessment of hydroxyapatite dose yielded the foundational data required to establish the parameters of dental dosimetry. In future, the third intercomparison experiment will be conducted for exploring other materials.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the possibile clinical application of electroplating to increase diameter of an orthodontic wire, through examining the change of physical properties. The diameter of stainless steel orthodontic wire was increased from 0.016 inch to 0.018 inch by electroplating in a bath of nickel sulfate 100g/L, nickel chloride 60g/L, boric acid 30g/L, and sodium chloride 50g/L, under the conditions of 1.7V, $25\~29^{\circ}C\;and\;3.1\~3.3pH$. During the electroplating, the rate of diameter increase was measured every minute. To investigate uniformity, the diameter was measured at three different locations of each wire specimen aster electroplating. An X-ray diffraction test was performed to analyze the nature of the electroplated metal. Following heat treatment to improve adhesion between the wire and electroplated metal, a three-point bending test was conducted to compare stiffness, field strength, and ultimate strength among four wire groups; 0.016 inch, electroplated 016, electroplated and heat-treated 016, and 0.018 inch wires. Through the comparison of each wire group, following results were obtained. 1. In the load-deflection graph, the curve of the electroplated group was Placed between that of the 0.016 inch group and the 0.018 inch group, and the owe was closer to the 0.018 inch group by heat treatment. 2. In the electroplated and heat-treated 016 wire group, the values of stiffness, yield strength and ultimate strength showed higher tendency than in the original 0.016 Inch group. Stiffness and ultimate strength showed statistically significant differences between two groups. 3. Stiffness, yield strength, and ultimate strength of electroplated wire presented lower values than those of 0.018 inch wire group. 4. Stiffness, yield strength, and ultimate strength of electroplated and heat-treated wire showed higher tendency than those of electroplated wire group, and ultimate strength showed statistically significant difference between two groups. 5. After electroplating, the difference in diameter between the three locations was within $0.1\~0.3\%$ variation, and showed no statistical significance.
This study was performed to investigate the reproducibility of the horizontal and midsagittal planes, and to suggest a stable coordinate system for three-dimensional (3D) cephalometric analysis. Eighteen CT scans were taken and the coordinate system was established using 7 reference points marked by a volume model, with no more than 4 points on the same plane. The 3D landmarks were selected on V works (Cybermed Inc., Seoul, Korea), then exported to V surgery (Cybermed Inc., Seoul, Korea) to calculate the coordinate values. All the landmarks were taken twice with a lapse of 2 weeks. The horizontal and midsagittal planes were constructed and its reproducibility was evaluated. There was no significant difference in the reproducibility of the horizontal reference planes, But, FH planes were more reproducible than other horizontal planes. FH planes showed no difference between the planes constructed with 3 out of 4 points. The angle of intersection made by 2 FH planes, composed of both Po and one Or showed less than $1^{\circ}$ difference. This was identical when 2 FH planes were composed of both Or and one Po. But, the latter cases showed a significantly smaller error. The reproducibility of the midsagittal plane was reliable with an error range of 0.61 to $1.93^{\circ}$ except for 5 establishments (FMS-Nc, Na-Rh, Na-ANS, Rh-ANS, and FR-PNS). The 3D coordinate system may be constructed with 3 planes; the horizontal plane constructed by both Po and right Or; the midsagittal plane perpendicular to the horizontal plane, including the midpoint of the Foramen Spinosum and Nc; and the coronal plane perpendicular to the horizontal and midsagittal planes, including point clinoidale, or sella, or PNS.

This study is to compare the differences of bonding strength based on the Degassing temperatures and various opaque materials for Ni-Cr alloy specimen which does not contain beryllium(Be). Numerous comparison tests have been performed to measure the bonding strength by experimenting 3-point flexural rigidity tests in order to find out ways of stabilization and enhancement of bonding strength between metal and porcelain. AVOVA, surface component observation experiment by SAM/EDS, and Tukey's HSAD posteriori tests results are as follows: First, The bonding strength in all groups has exceeded the minimum (25MPa) of ISO9693 bonding strength regulation for dental mental-porcelain specimen. Second, The bonding strength of Group V1 was $32.37{\pm}1.91MPa$, $38.25{\pm}1.38MPa$ in Group V2, $46.43{\pm}2.14MPa$ in Group V3 and $47.21{\pm}1.72MPa$ Group V4. The difference has been statistically meaningful. Tukey's HSAD posteriori tests results have shown that the bonding strength in Group V4 was higher than that of Group V1. Third, the bonding strength between metal and porcelain without degassing process was higher than that of with degassing process, and the bonding strength of powder opaque was higher than that of paste opaque. Fourth, Group V4 has ranked the highest on the comparison table of metal and porcelain bonding strength.
Undifferentiated mesencymal stem cells(UMSCs) have been thought to be multipotent cells that can replicate as undifferentiated cells and that have the potential to differentiate into lineages of mesenchymal tissue including the bone, cartilage, fat, tendon, muscle, and marrow stroma. It can be used to sinus lifting, Guided bone regeneration, other bone graft in dental part. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of mesencymal stem cells on sinus augmentation with autogenous bone, fibrin glue mixture in a rabbit model. 8 New Zealand white rabbits were divided randomly into 4 groups based on their time of sacrifice(1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks). First, undifferentiated mesenchymal stem cells were isolated from iliac crest marrow of rabbits and expanded in vitro. cell culture was performed in accordance with the technique described by Tsutsumi et al. In the present study, The animals were sacrificed at 1, 2, 4 and 8 weeks after transplantation, and the bone formation ability of each sides was evaluated clinically, radiologically, histologically and histomorphologically. According to the histological observations, Stem cell group showed integrated graft bone with host bone from sinus wall. At 2 and 4weeks, It showed active newly formed bone and neovascularization. At 8 weeks, lamella bone was observed in sinus graft material area. Radiologically, autobone with stem cell showed more radiopaque than autobone without stemcell. there were significant differences in bone volume between 2 and 4 weeks (p<0.05). In summary, the autobone with stem cells had well-formed, newly formed bone and neovasculization, compared with the autobone without stem cells (esp. 2 weeks and 4 weeks) The findings of this experimental study indicate that the use of a mixture of mesenchymal stem cell yielded good results in osteogenesis and bone volume comparable with that achieved by autogenous bone. Therefore, this application of this promising new sinus floor elevation method for implants with tissue engineering technology deserves further study.

In the dental field, the 3D tooth model in which each tooth can be manipulated individually is an essential component for the simulation of orthodontic surgery and treatment. To reconstruct such a tooth model from CT slices, we need to define the accurate boundary of each tooth from CT slices. However, the global threshold method, which is commonly used in most existing 3D reconstruction systems, is not effective for the tooth segmentation in the CT image. In tooth CT slices, some teeth touch with other teeth and some are located inside of alveolar bone whose intensity is similar to that of teeth. In this paper, we propose an image segmentation algorithm based on B-spline curve fitting to produce smooth tooth regions from such CT slices. The proposed algorithm prevents the malfitting problem of the B-spline algorithm by providing accurate initial tooth boundary for the fitting process. This paper proposes an optimal threshold scheme using the intensity and shape information passed by previous slice for the initial boundary generation and an efficient B-spline fitting method based on genetic algorithm. The test result shows that the proposed method detects contour of the individual tooth successfully and can produce a smooth and accurate 3D tooth model for the simulation of orthodontic surgery and treatment.

Statement of problem. The success of the bonding between electroforming gold and resin is dependent on the surface-conditioning technique but its effective technique has net been studied widely. Purpose. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the bond strength between the electroforming gold and resin with varying the surface-conditioning technique. Materials and methods. Sixty rectangular shaped metal specimens were made and one side of each specimen were gold hard plated. The sand-blasted specimens were divided into four experimental groups with fifteen specimens in each group and were treated as follows. Group 1: Silicoating (Rocatec, 3M ESPE)+ Sinfony (3M ESPE), Group 2: SR Link+ SR Adoro (Ivoclar Vivadent), Group 3: Tin plating (Microtin, Danville Engineering)+ SR Link+ SR Adoro, Group 4: Tin plating (Micro tin, Danville Engineering)+ Silicoating (Rocatec)+ Sinfony. Shear bond strength at metal-resin interface were measured using universal testing machine. Energy Dispersive x-ray analysis was done and scanning electron microscope images were taken and observed. Results and Conclusion. The following conclusions were drawn. 1. The mean shear bond strength values in order were 11.69MPa (Group 2), 22.35MPa (Group 3), 22.40MPa (Group 1) and 27.71MPa (Group 4). There was no significant difference in Group 1, Group 3 and Group 4(P>0.05). 2. In the EDX line analysis, the Au was detected on the surface of all specimen. $SnO_2$ showed on the surface of Group 2 and $SiO_2$ was detected on the surface of Group 1. 3. Increasing of roughness by sandblasting(Group 2), formation of micro-irregularities and tin crystals by electrolytic tin plating(Group 3) and formation of surface irregularities and $SiO_2$ layer(Group 1,4) were observed in SEM photo. 4. Tin plating(Group 3) and Rocatec treatment(Group 1) showed clinically effective shear bond strength(>20MPa), but when the two surface conditioning method were used together higher bond strength were achieved.
Four commercial alumina powders having different particle size of $0.5{\mu}m,\;2.8{\mu}m,\;12{\mu}m,\;and\;45{\mu}m$ were presintered at 1120$^{\circ}C$ for 2h and then lanthanum aluminosilicate glass was infiltrated at 1100$^{\circ}C$ for 2h in the interval of 0.1h to investigate the penetration kinetic of the glass into the alumina preforms. The infiltration distance is parabolic with respect to time as described by the Washburn equation and the penetration rate constant, K, increases with raising the alumina particle size. The strength of glass-alumina composites increases as the alumina particle size reaches to 2.8${\mu}m$ due to the increase in packing, however, decreases with further increasing the alumina particle size. The fracture toughness of the composites rises with increasing the alumina particle size due to the crack bowing and the interaction between crack and alumina particles.

The objective of this study was to examine the availability of the new impression coping by comparing with conventional coping in implant pick-up impression technique. Five implant fixtures were installed on #14, 21, 23, 25, 27 in acrylic resin model. That model with 5 fixtures was standard model, which was divided 3 groups; using new flag type impression coping, conventional impression coping splinted with self-curing resin, conventional impression coping without splinting. We made metal circular cones for calculation 3-dimensional coordinates by attaching to implant fixtures or analogs. Three-dimensional relationships of each model were calculated. Data was analyzed by multiple ANOVA and Bonferroni. The accuracy of impression between using new flag type impression coping and conventional impression coping did not show differences in 3 - dimensional analysis.Within limitations of this study, the new flag type impression coping is available in implant pick-up impression technique.

We developed an orofacial pains diagnosis/therapy system which can enlarge a therapy effect through a new stimulation. Contrary to its established method, this therapy system(DDTS-1) is a treating method which absorbs a surplus ion charge- the cause of an outbreak of a pain-of the human body using a capacitor. Absorbing a surplus ion charge of the human body with effect, it obtained optimal parameters which is control signal to control charging/discharging a capacitor to be 6Hz, and capacitance to be $0.1\~0.33{\mu}F.$ Through clinical demonstration, experimented on among patients-namely dental pain patients, joint disorders patients, and trigeminal neuralgia patients to verification of system. In result, an EAST stimulater had a very low change of abnormal potential against normal potential before/after being placed under medical care. DDTS-1 showed obvious differences that two potentials are one and the same potential or one potential is similar to the other one. DDTS-1 comparing with EAST showed the remedial value of the comparative advantage in all the medical treatment of pains. Therefore, stimulation of DDTS-1 is more effective than the existing electric stimulation. We verified its validity of ion charge absorption in the human body using capacitor which presented the present thesis. That is, we verified theoretical adequacy of control action in a pain, and its efficiency as well as confidence.
