The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that influence the dementia and recognition of dementia policy of nursing students. The participants were 184, 1~2 grad of nursing students of K university in G city. The data were collected from May 1 to May 31, 2017, and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program with one-way ANOVA, t-test, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple stepwise regression. The general characteristics, such as dementia attention and dementia ward intent to work had a significant influence on dementia attitudes. The level of dementia attitudes, recognition of dementia policy, dementia knowledge and attitudes toward older adults were more than moderate. The correlations among recognition of dementia policy, dementia knowledge, attitudes toward older adults and dementia attitudes were significant. These variables showed an explanation rate 23.4% and recognition of dementia policy(β=.22, p=.004), dementia attention(no)(β=-.20, p=.006), dementia ward intent to work(no)(β=-.16, p=.021), dementia knowledge(β=.15, p=.027) were statistically significant among the variables that influenced dementia attitudes. It is necessary to develop a systematic dementia education program that can raise dementia knowledge, positive attitude, and recognition of dementia policy of nursing college students.

This study was undertaken to recommend a dementia education program for college students, and to understand the outcome on knowledge and attitude towards dementia, awareness of aged support, and cognitive-affective empathy. Totally, 40 college students in C city, K do, were enrolled for the study, and divided into two groups of 20 each: experimental group and control group. The experimental group subjects were provided a 12-hour dementia education program; effectiveness of this program has been verified in later studies. Data were collected from November 5, 2018 to December 7, 2018; collection was before, after, and 4 weeks after the program was provided to the experimental group. Control group data were also collected in the same time frame. Data analysis was done using IBM SPSS WIN/21.0, and the percentage, mean and standard deviation were analyzed using Shapiro-Wilks test, $x^2$-test, Fisher's exact probability test, Independent t-test, Friedman test, Mann-Whitney U and Repeated Measure ANOVA. Knowledge of dementia (F=19.80, p<0.001), attitude toward dementia (z=-4.10, p<0.001), and awareness of aged support (F=6.26, p=0.017) had a significant interaction between group and time; however, cognitive-affective empathy showed no correlation (F=1.32, p<0.256). We therefore suggest strengthening the contents of future education program for dementia, developing a customized program for cognitive-affective empathy by considering subject characteristics, and further research verifying the effectiveness of the program.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine adolescents' knowledge and attitudes towards dementia and to provide basic data for educating about knowledge of dementia and strengthening positive attitudes towards dementia. Methods: This study used a descriptive research design. The subjects were 502 middle and high school students. A questionnaire organized by 16 questions of knowledge and 10 questions of attitudes towards dementia was used. Results: The subjects' knowledge level of dementia was low, and average score was $8.89{\pm}2.95$. The questions with low rate of correct answer were "Dementia is caused by several dozens of diseases such as internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, etc.", "In spite of the dementia, patients can enjoy their favorite things." The subjects' average score of attitudes towards dementia was $3.72{\pm}0.58$. Questions of negative attitudes were "I don't want to be closed to patients of dementia.", "I watch information or prevention about dementia in mass communications media." The relationship between dementia-related knowledge and attitudes showed positive correlation. Conclusion: The result means the mediation is necessary for improving dementia-related knowledge and strengthening positive attitudes in adolescents. The education programs should be proceeded to provide adolescents with correct information about dementia.
This study is a one group pretest-posttest design study to confirm the effect of geriatric nursing practice on elderly care attitude and dementia communication behavior of student nurses. The study was conducted from September to December, 2018. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires of 59 student nurses. The data were analyzed by frequencies and paired t-test using SPSS 21.0 program. As a result, elderly care attitude and dementia communication behavior were significantly increased after the geriatric nursing practice compaired to before the geriatric nursing practice. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the composition of the practice curriculum for student nurses to improve their competence as nurses in the future.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience of nursing students who volunteered as dementia partners for elderly persons with dementia. Methods: This qualitative study utilized focus group interviews to investigate the experiences of 20 nursing students who performed dementia partner activities for more than one year. Data were analysed using an inductive content analysis approach based on Elo & Kyngäs. Results: The analysis yielded the following four major themes: "becoming a dementia expert," "becoming an evangelist for prevention of dementia," "overcoming prejudices against aged with dementia," and "acquiring motivation and skills of geriatric nursing" That means the experience as a dementia partner serves as an opportunity to broaden human understanding and shows its potential as a means to complement the effectiveness of practical nursing education. Conclusion: Dementia partner experiences have changed the perception, attitude and behavior of nursing students about the aged with dementia, so there is a need to extend this kind of experience to other students in nursing. Moreover, educational policy support should be continuously provided for this purpose.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to contribute to develope dental health intervention standard curriculum for dementia patients by identifying the extent of knowledge, attitudes and educational needs toward dementia in the dental hygiene department students. Methods: The study was conducted in the students of the dental hygiene department in colleges and universities, nationwide (from the first year students to the 3rd or 4th year students) for approximately 2 months from March to April, 2018. Among them, 545 students were selected as the subjects for the final analysis. Results: 91.0% of the subjects were not currently receiving education on dementia. The research on the factors to impact the dementia education needs of the subjects showed that the dementia education necessity (p<0.001) and the dementia attitude (p<0.001) had statistically significant effects on the educational needs on dementia. Conclusions: It is considered that the standard education curriculum for the dental health intervention for dementia patients in the department of dental hygiene should be developed and disseminated. This will provide a basis for the dental hygienists to be equipped with the relevant expertise in the intervention in the dental health of dementia patients in the future.

The best way to care senile dementia patients is understanding the nature of disease. Care-givers can't understand the patients because the patients can't properly communicate with care-givers. Thus, care-givers are supposed to find out ways to understand them in the nature of disease. From this view, there seems no exception in essential attitude of care-givers toward the patients. Without positive understanding the nature of disease and respecting patient's rights as a human even though they are badly disorder in their word and behavior. There seems no expectation for thousands quality of care-giving.
Because the psychophysical symptoms of hearing loss and dementia in the elderly are very similar, untrained healthcare professionals in dementia facilities can easily overlook a severity of hearing loss in their patients. The present study identifies their knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) on hearing loss using a survey whether they may help hearing problem of the patients with dementia. A total of 29 health-care professionals responded to the KAP survey. Also, 2 family members participated. The results showed that most of the nurses and caregivers in elderly medical welfare facilities who worked with dementia patients did not have knowledge of their hearing loss. Even the facility managers did not know how to conduct hearing tests for their patients although they did recognize that some of their patients had a hearing loss. Eventually, actual practice was not possible at this moment by the professionals. However, our respondents did have a positive attitude toward screening for hearing loss and help their patients with dementia wear hearing aids if a clinical guideline was provided. We suggest to develop clear and precise clinical guidelines of the hearing screening test for the dementia patients due to the interrelationship between dementia and hearing loss. When these guidelines apply to elderly residents in a medical welfare facility, early diagnosis and treatment of their sensory loss will help alleviate their dementia as well.
