Purpose: The purpose of the study was to provide deep understanding of the reported experiences of families with their loved one in the intensive care unit (ICU), focusing on interactions with healthcare providers. Methods: The data were collected by individual interviews of eleven participants. The transcribed data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis to identify major themes and sub-themes that represented the experiences of families. Results: Five themes and 13 sub-themes emerged. "Captive of patients' delayed death: Fear and anxiety" describes psychological problems arising when the family member became critically ill enough to warrant being admitted to the ICU. "Families as the weak: Suppression and resistance" describes interpersonal difficulties arising due to lack of information and trust with healthcare providers. "Deprivation of authority and duty as families: Helplessness" illustrate situational barriers in attempting to protect and support family member. "Re-establishment of trust relationship with healthcare providers: Gratitude and appreciation" describes how they satisfied with themselves by regaining trust relationship. Lastly, "Acceptance of reality through direct care participation: Relief and peace" illustrates peace of mind by gaining sense of reality through active direct care participation. Conclusion: This study demonstrates the positive and negative experiences of families with ICU patients. The results will be useful in developing family-centered nursing interventions.

The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of users' perception of convergence media which were appeared with technological development upon the actual intention of use. Study findings show that when the perceived usefulness of convergence media was high, use intention was high as well. In addition, when the perceived ease of use was high, use intention was high as well. Use intention had significance influence upon the extent of actual use. This finding implies the fact that when use intention is higher, convergence media are more frequently used in reality. On the other hand, when innovation resistance is higher, the perceived ease of use, use intention and media intimacy are lower. In the end, due to innovation resistance, the use intention of media becomes lower and the use of convergence media is delayed.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate spatial and temporal features of motor control in an individual with hemiparesis during the curvilinear gait (CG) and proposed an exercise guideline. Research design, data and methodology: An individual aged 63 with hemiparesis by stroke disease was participated in the study. Autoencoder (AE) was used to extract four motor modules from eight muscle activities of the paretic leg during CG. After extraction, each module of four modules was operationally defined by numbering from M1 to M4 according to spatial and temporal features and compared with results reported in a previous study. Results: As a result, an individual with hemiparesis had motor module problems related to difficulty of weight acceptance (module 1), compensation for the weakness of ankle plantar flexor (module 2), a spastic synergistic pattern (module 3) and difficulty with transition from the swing to stance phase (module 4) in terms of spatial features. Also, a delayed activation timing of temporal motor module (module 2) related to the forward propulsion during CG was observed. Conclusions: Gait rehabilitation for the stroke will need to consider clinical significances in respect of the deterioration of motor module and provide the tailored approaches for each gait phase.

Many investigators have reported difficulties in changing the high school students' misconceptions on mechanics. By one possible solution to this problem, some researchers suggested that the students should be taught mechanics at a younger age to make conceptual changes possible. because as they get older they become less willing to change their ideas. The purpose of this study was to compare the patterns of students' conceptual changes on force by age, to find out whether older students were less ready to change their conceptions than younger students. Individual interviews were carried out with 35 students (average ages 13) in middle school class and 50 students (average ages 17) in high school class near by the middle school. Those students who held the misconcetpion that "motion-implies-force (Impetus conception)" were asked to read a student-centered refutational text (anomalous data). In the immediate and delayed posttest, the types of responses of the students were analyzed to find out the patterns of student's conceptual changes on force by age. In result, first, most of students had impetus conception. Some of the students aged 13 understood the force as terminologies related with everyday experiences, while the students aged 17 understood the force as scientific terminologies. Second, there was no evidence to suggest that conceptual change is more difficult for the students aged 17 than aged 13. Third, the students aged 13 showed diverse responses (plain acceptance, critical acceptance, plain rejection, critical rejection) to the refutational text, while the students aged 17 showed restricted responses (critical acceptance, critical rejection). A month later those students who showed the plain acceptance retrogressed unscientific conceptions, while those students who showed critical acceptance maintained scientific conceptions. We did not find out any evidence to suggest that conceptual change is more difficult for older students. These results need deeper investigation on the nature of the loss of plasticity in comparison with other important variables.
The aim of this study was to assess the precision of the estimates of the time of estrous cycle, optimal breeding and ovulation derived by vaginal cytology. The thirteen Korea Jin-do dogs were examined the vaginal cytology, plasma estradiol-17$$\beta $ and progesterone assay during the estrous cycle. Day 0 was the day of the first male acceptance. The main change of vaginal cytology during the estrous cycle was the high proportion of anuclear cell and erythrocyte in proestrus, superficial cell, anuclear cell and erythrocyte in estrus, parabasal cell, large intermediate cell and leukocytes in diestrus, and parabasal cell and small intermediate cell in anestrus, respectively. These data indicated that vaginal cytology was reliable method for estimating estrous cycle in Korea Jin-do dogs. In the cell indices during estrus the maximum eosinoghilic index was $92.0{\pm}$2.6 (Mean{\pm} SEM$)% at Day 2 and the maximum cornification indez was $96.0{\pm}1.3%$ at Day 2, respectively. The eosinothilic indez and cornification indez of up to 70% were found at Day -1 to Day 5 and Day -6 to Day 8, and up to 80% at Day 1 to Day 4 and Day -4 to Day 6, respectively. From these data it was presumed that eosinophilic index was more reliable index for monitoring optimal breeding time than cornification indexm because eosinophilic index peak period was shorter than cornification indeX peak period and Day 2 was the day of ovulation. Therefore, optimal breeding time was the eosinophilic index peak period, more than 80% of eosinoghilic index. The $estradiol-17{\beta}$ peak, with 3 days delayed when progesterone concentration was $4.5{\pm}0.5 ng/ml$. These data estimated that the ovulation time was the day of eosinophilic index peak, Day 2. breeding time and pvulation time in Korea Jin-do dogs.
The aim of this present study was to evaluate the effects of gamma-irradiation on the microbial and physicochemical characteristics of the rice flour porridge. The viscosity of the gamma-irradiated rice flour porridge was decreased as compared to that of the control. The soluble solid and reducing sugar content of the rice flour porridge was increased according to the gamma irradiation dose, while the blue value was decreased. From the results of a DSC curve, it was suggested that gamma irradiation delayed the retrogradation of the cooked rice flour porridge. The sensory score for overall acceptance and the chewing times for swallowing of the porridge, decreased with gamma irradiation doses above 3 kGy. Based on these results gamma irradiation may significantly enhance the swallowability of rice porridge, especially for elderly or infant subjects who have decreased mastication. However, more research is needed to improve the sensory qualities for the industrial application.
Thai Jasmine rice (Oryza sativa, long grain Indica var.) is popular in southeastern Asia and China due to its non-glutinous, fluffy texture and fragrant smell. However it has a high starch digestibility, which leads to an increased glycemic index (GI). Therefore it may require modified cooking methods for diabetes patients. The objectives of this study were to optimize the ratio of Thai Jasmine rice, sea tangle, and olive oil (CLTR) based on consumers' acceptance. The GI of plain cooked Thai Jasmine rice (CLR) was measured as a control. Sensory evaluation and response surface methodology were used to determine the optimal ratio. Texture analysis and nutritional evaluation were also performed on the optimal recipe of cooked Jasmine rice with sea tangle. A multiple regression equation was developed in quadratic canonical polynomial models. We used 26 trained Chinese panelists in their forties to rate color, flavor, adhesiveness, and glossiness, which we determined were highly correlated with overall acceptability. The optimal CLTR formula was 34.8% rice, 2.8% sea tangle, 61.9% water, and 0.5% olive oil. Compared to CLR, CLTR had a lower hardness, but a higher springiness and cohesiveness. However, CLR and CLTR had the same adhesiveness and chewiness. The addition of sea tangle and olive oil delayed retro-gradation of starch in CLTR and increased total dietary fiber, and protein and ash contents. The degree of gelatinization, and in vitro protein and starch digestibility of CLTR were lower than those of CLR. Based on Wolver' method, the GI of CLTR (52.9, incremental area under the glycemic-response curve, ignoring the area below fasting, as used for calculating the GI [Inc]) was lower compared with that of CLR (70.94, Inc), which indicates that CLTR is effective in decreasing and stabilizing blood glucose level, owing to its lower degree of gelatinization and starch digestibility. Our results show that CLTR can contribute to the development of a healthier meal for families and the fast food industry.

IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) became a prevailing technology for the broadband wireless Internet access, and new applications such as Voice over WLAM (VoWLAN) are fast emerging today. For the battery-powered VoWLAN devices, the standby time extension is a key concern for the market acceptance while today's 802.11 is not optimized for such an operation. In this paper, we propose a novel Idle Mode operation, which comprises paging, idle handoff, and delayed handoff. Under the idle mode operation, a Mobile Host (MH) does not need to perform a handoff within a predefined Paging Area (PA). Only when the MH enters a new PA, an idle handoff is performed with a minimum level of signaling. Due to the absence of such an idle mode operation, both IP paging and Power Saving Mode (PSM) have been considered the alternatives so far even though they are not efficient approaches. We implement our proposed scheme in order to prove the feasibility. The implemented prototype demonstrates that the proposed scheme outperforms the legacy alternatives with respect to energy consumption, thus extending the standby time.

The purpose of this study was to increase product reliability by improving the durability of the breech block for a 30mm Automatic Gun. The breech block is a key component of a gun that functions as chambering, closing, and extracting. The breech block requires high reliability, which needs to be improved because cracks of a breech block can occur early in operation. Cause analysis confirmed that the crack is caused by repeated impacts. Therefore, the following improvement measures were studied, and the effects were demonstrated using a firing test. The energy of impact absorption was increased by changing the material, and the stress concentration was mitigated by increasing the value of R. In addition, the fatigue life was increased by adding Shot-peening, deleting chromium plating, and changing the forging method. The firing test did not show firing trouble for up to 5,000 rounds. The start timing of the crack was delayed, and the depth was small. Therefore, the improved product was more durable than the existing product. This study can be used as a useful reference when assessing the improvement of the durability of similar products, life study, and criteria for crack acceptance.
This study was conducted to investigate the use of sugar alcohols as alternative sweeteners for replacing sucrose in sponge cake. The sponge cakes were prepared with only sucrose or a 50% replacement of sucrose with various sugar alcohols (erythritol, sorbitol, and xylitol). The specific gravity of cake batter containing only sucrose was significantly higher and the viscosity was significantly lower than those containing sugar alcohol (p<0.001). Among sugar alcohols, xylitol was the most similar to sucrose. The thermal characteristics, as assessed by differential scanning calorimetry, showed that sucrose delayed gelatinization of cake batter more than sugar alcohol, as the onset temperature and the peak temperature of cake batter containing only sucrose were higher than those containing sugar alcohol. The moisture content of cake containing sorbitol was the highest and that containing only sucrose was the lowest among cakes. The specific volume of cakes containing only sucrose and xylitol were higher and the baking loss rate of those were lower than other sugar alcohols. The volume and symmetry index of cake containing only sucrose were the highest among cakes (p<0.001), and xylitol was similar to sucrose for the above indices. The redness (a) and yellowness (b) values of crust containing only sucrose were significantly higher than those containing sugar alcohols (p<0.001). The a and b values of crumb containing erythritol were the lowest among cakes, showing a pale yellowish color. The microstructure, as assessed by scanning electron microscopy, showed that the cake containing only sucrose had more uniformly and finely distributed pores and a smoother cross section than that containing sugar alcohols. Cake containing xylitol was similar to cake containing only sucrose. Hardness, chewiness, and gumminess of cake containing only sucrose were higher than those containing sugar alcohols, whereas the adhesiveness of cakes containing sugar alcohols were higher than those containing only sucrose (p<0.01). Among sugar alcohols, xylitol was the most similar to sucrose in textural properties. In a sensory quality test, the tenderness and moistness of cakes containing sorbitol and erythritol were higher than those containing only sucrose and xylitol. The overall acceptance of cakes containing xylitol and only sucrose were higher than those containing sorbitol and erythritol (p<0.001). Thus, xylitol is more appropriate as a 50% replacement for sucrose than erythritol and sorbitol when preparing sponge cake.
