  • Power Aware Routing Protocol of MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network) minimized the power consumption of each node and helped to extend the lifetime of the network. But due to the nature of the protocol, it tends to increase the transmission delay, so multimedia transmissions were difficult to be applied. In this paper, a delay-power aware routing protocol is proposed considering the delay transmission delay that can be applied to ad hoc network. The proposed protocol consider two conflicting index, transmission delay and power consumption at the same time, maintaining a certain level of delay transmission delay while minimizes the power consumption. It is observed from the simulation results compared to not-considering delay transmission delay that the proposed protocol decrease transmission delay by 30% while the power consumption less than 10% increase.

  • In this paper, we present the performance evaluation of the reliable cooperative media access control (RCO-MAC) protocol, which has been proposed in [1] by us in order to enhance system throughput in bad wireless channel environments. The performance of this protocol is evaluated with computer simulation as well as mathematical analysis in this paper. The system throughput, two types of average delays, average channel access delay, and average system delay, which includes the queuing delay in the buffer, are used as performance metrics. In addition, two different traffic models are used for performance evaluation: The saturated traffic model for computing system throughput and average channel access delay, and the exponential data generation model for calculating average system delay. The numerical results show that the RCO-MAC protocol proposed by us provides over 20% more system throughput than the relay distributed coordination function (rDCF) scheme. The numerical results show that the RCO-MAC protocol provides a slightly higher average channel access delay over a greater number of source nodes than the rDCF. This is because a greater number of source nodes provide more opportunities for cooperative request to send (CRTS) frame collisions and because the value of the related retransmission timer is greater in the RCO-MAC protocol than in the rDCF protocol. The numerical results also confirm that the RCO-MAC protocol provides better average system delay over the whole gamut of the number of source nodes than the rDCF protocol.

  • For the Internet multicast routing, there are some protocols researched. This paper presents a new protocol called DPIM (Delay-bounded PIM) to support QoS of delay in multicast routing. This protocol is based on PIM-SM. When the specified delay bound is not satisfied by dynamic membership, the RP (Rendezvous Point) of shared tree is changed and the shared tree is reconstructed. Therefore, the QoS of delay is always supported in this protocol. Through performance analysis and comparison with other protocol, we certify that this protocol is pertinent.

  • This paper proposes a new MAC propocol for high-speed MAN. The proposed protocol is based on the P$_1$-persistent tranmission scheme and each node calculates the transmission probability periodically by using delay information(DI). A window mechanism for the calculation of message delay in each node is proposed to improve the adaptability of the proposed protocol to traffic changes. The capactiy of the proposed protocol is analyzed. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol gives fair message delay under heavy load conditions and, when the transmission speed or distance is increased, the message delay variation of the proposed protocol is less than that of IEEE 802.6 DQDB.

  • In this paper, we analyze the delay characteristics of the multimdedia traffic in B-ISDN, and propose a weighted variable-size window estimator considering the QoS characteristics of the media and the variable delay characteristics of the networks, and present a delay estimator-based synchronization protocol for the efficient synchronization in ATM-based B-ISDN. The proposed estimator assigns a high weight value to recent cells arrived in the receiver, and suitably adjusts window size in order to efficiently adapt to delay variation by the prameter to detect the delay variation of the networks. The proposed synchronization protocol estimates end-to-end delay by the weighted variable-size window estimator, and dynamically schedules th evirtual channel of the transmitter to playout multimedia data on time in the receiver. Also, we evaluate the performance of the delay estimator, which is the most importnat functional element in our proposed synchronization protocol, by the simulation and analyze the results of the simulation.

  • Recently, the fieldbus becomes an indispensable component for many automated systems. In the fieldbus system, realtime data containing sensor values and control commands has a tendency to rapidly lose its value as time elapses after its creation. In order to deliver these data in time, the fieldbus network should be designed to have short delay compared to the maximum allowable delay. Because the communication delay is affected by performance parameters such as target rotation timer of token passing protocol, it is necessary to select proper parameter settings to satisfy the real-time requirement for communication delay. This paper presents the timer selection method for Profibus token passing networks using genetic algorithm (GA) to meet the delay requirements.

  • Relatively slow tuning speed of optical device causes the unwanted delay in high speed single-hop multiwavelength networks. To lessen the overhead, we present a channel access protocol with dynamjic message scheduling. Th eframe structure of proposed protocol adopts hybrid multiaccess scheme in which WDMA is used as a basic multiaccess technique and TDMA is used to provide subchannels within a wavelength band. This architecture has two merits : the network extention is not limited by available number of wavelengths, and the transmission delay caused by optical device tuning time can to minimize the number of tunings. It schedules messages that require same wavelength channels sequencely, so the total transmission delay is reduced by decreasement of wavelength changes. The performance of proposed protocol is evaluated through numerical analysis based on probability and queueing theory. The peformance of proposed protocol is evaluated through numerical analysis based on probability and queueing theory. The numeric results show that the peformance of proposed protocol is better than that of previous one.

  • The purpose of this paper is to propose a CSMA/CA protocol to reduce the delay time and increase the throughput of the original CSMA/CA protocol. In underwater environments, the efficiency of the protocol is reduced due to the increase of the propagation delay time, which results in increase of the collision possibility causing lowering of the transmission efficiency Considering this propagation delay, this paper propose to insert the STANDBY frame in a CTS packet in order to avoid the TimeOut status of the CSMA/CA protocol. According to the simulated test results, proposed protocol is increased about 20% throughput than original CSMA/CA protocol. And the more value of propagation per transmission delay 'a' is low, the more throughput of protocol is better.

  • A multicast session protocol in wireless networks reduces the session delay of multicast delivery caused by moving of mobile host. A hand-off scheme, called MSDR (multicast session delay reduction), in mobile networks is proposed. MSDR protocol that minimizes the delay of a session re-establishment uses the basic unicast routing function of the IETF mobile IP and the DFA (designated foreign agent) to provide multicast services for mobile hosts. Proposed MSDR protocol allows the mobile hosts to continuously receive packets when they move across the basic sets during hand-off. Discrete-event simulation carried out for performance evaluation of MSDR protocol, and simulation results indicated that our scheme can offer a better performance of multicast session delay reduction in terms of signalling cost than that of IETF.
