This paper presents a cooperative transmission scheme for underwater acoustic sensor networks to improve packet transmission rate and reduce energy consumption. Source node transmits duplicated information relayed by distributed antennas called a virtual antenna array. Destination node combines that information to reduce packet error rate. The suggested cooperative scheme enhances the reliability by providing high diversity gains through intermediate relay nodes to overcome the distinct characteristics of the underwater channel, such as high transmission loss, propagation delay, and ambient noises. It is suggested that the algorithm select destinations and potential relays from a set of neighboring nodes that utilize distance cost, the residual energy of each node and local measurement of the channel conditions into calculation. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces average energy consumption, response time, and increases packet delivery ratio compared with the SPF(Shortest Path First) and non-cooperative scheme using OPNET Moduler.

Overlay routing has emerged as a promising approach to improve reliability and efficiency of the Internet. For one-hop overlay source routing, when a given primary path suffers from the link failure or performance degradation, the source can reroute the traffic to the destination via a strategically placed relay node. However, the over-heavy traffic passing through the same relay node may cause frequent package loss and delay jitter, which can degrade the throughput and utilization of the network. To overcome this problem, we propose a Load-Balanced One-hop Overlay Multipath Routing algorithm (LB-OOMR), in which the traffic is first split at the source edge nodes and then transmitted along multiple one-hop overlay paths. In order to determine an optimal split ratio for the traffic, we formulate the problem as a linear programming (LP) formulation, whose goal is to minimize the worse-case network congestion ratio. Since it is difficult to solve this LP problem in practical time, a heuristic algorithm is introduced to select the relay nodes for constructing the disjoint one-hop overlay paths, which greatly reduces the computational complexity of the LP algorithm. Simulations based on a real ISP network and a synthetic Internet topology show that our proposed algorithm can reduce the network congestion ratio dramatically, and achieve high-quality overlay routing service.

Cheese is an excellent substrate for yeast and mold growth. These organisms can cause cheese spoilage, resulting in significant food wastage and economic losses. In the context of cheese spoilage, the presence and effects of spoilage or pathogenic bacteria are well documented. In contrast, although yeasts and molds are responsible for much dairy food wastage, only a few studies have examined the diversity of spoilage fungi. This article reviews the spoilage yeasts and molds affecting cheeses in various countries. The diversity and number of fungi present were found to depend on the type of cheese. Important fungi growing on cheese include Candida spp., Galactomyces spp., Debaryomyces spp., Yarrowia spp., Penicillium spp., Aspergillus spp., Cladosporium spp., Geotrichum spp., Mucor spp., and Trichoderma spp.. In addition, several mold spoilage species, such as Aspergillus spp. and Penicillium spp., are able to produce mycotoxins, which may also be toxic to humans. There are many ways to eliminate or reduce toxin levels in foods and feeds. However, the best way to avoid mycotoxins in cheese is to prevent mold contamination since there are limitations to mold degradation or detoxifications in cheese. Chemical preservatives, natural products, and modified atmosphere packaging have been used to prevent or delay mold spoilage and improve product shelf life and food safety.

In this paper, we analyze the performance of a direct-conversion UHF RFID reader with the range correlation effects of the phase noise. Since a UHF RFIB system uses the same oscillator to generate the transmitted carrier and the local oscillation, the periodic interference and phase noise reduction effects occur due to time delay between two signals. Through exact theory and simulation, we verify how to cancel the periodic interference phenomena using I/Q diversity combining technique. And, we analyze phase noise reduction effects due to range correlation as a function of the tag-reader distance and the offset frequency Using these results, we simulate the symbol-error-rate performance with respect to phase noise with and without range correation effects. We show that the phase noise of the local oscillator has little effect on the symbol-error-rate performance because of phase noise reduction by range correlation.

In this paper, the performance analysis of telemetering method using delayed frame time diversity (DFTD) as the outer code and Reed-Solomon (RS) code as the inner code is described. DFTD is used to transmit a real-time frame together with a time-delayed frame which was saved in the memory during a defined period. The RS code as a kind of FEC (forward error correction) is serially concatenated with DFTD. This method was applied to the design of telemetry units that have been used for flight tests in a communication environment with deep fading. The data of the flight test for four cases with no applied code, with DFTD only, with the RS code only, and with both DFTD and the RS code are used to analyze the performance. The simulation for time-delay suggests the possibility that all frame errors can be removed. And the results of 12 flight tests show the performance superiority of this new method to compare with the RS code only.

In this paper, the bit-error-ratio (BER) performances of Digital Radio Mondiale Plus (DRM+) system which stand for the European standard to bring analogue FM radio to digital radio in Band-II(30-170 MHz) are evaluated under multipath fading channel models used in Band-II and the adjacent channel interference (ACI) caused by FM signal. From the simulation results, the DRM+ system shows robust performances under time-varying channel environments even though the speed of a vehicle is equal to 300km/h. And it is shown that the frequency diversity, determined by delay spread of multipath fading channel, increases the coding gain of the DRM+ system with an increase of delay spread. In addition, to guarantee the BER performance of 10-4 for DRM+ system with ACI due to FM signal, the simulation results show that the desired signal-to-ACI power ratio must be more than -30 dB when the carrier frequency distance is 150 kHz.

It is well-known that mobile communication systems are usually limited in their performance and capacity by three major impairments, which are multipath fading, delay spread and co-channel interference (CCI). OFDMA (OFDM-FDMA) system can cope with the multipath fading and delay spread easily due to the beneficial properties of OmM technology. Though OFDMA scheme avoids intra-cell interference using the orthogonality among subcarriers, the scheme contains difficulty of reducing co-channel interference. Therefore, in this paper, adaptive antenna techniques are deployed into OFDMA/TDD system to minimize the co-channel interference induced by adjacent cells and to enhance the uplink performance. For the improvement of downlink performance, we apply TxAA (Transmit Adaptive Array), a kind of transmit diversity technique, utilizing preamble symbols for training antenna may into OFDMA/TDD transmitter side. Simulation results show that the uplink and downlink performance under multipath Rayleigh fading channel improved 9dB and 7dB each compared with the case of single antenna system at target BER $10^{-3}$ .

Cooperative ARQ scheme is effective for better QoS guarantee for the next generation mobile communication systems where multimedia data transmission highly increases. In this paper, we propose a cooperative ARQ strategy in ad hoc cognitive relays for mobile multimedia communication for supporting instantaneous cooperation in MANET environment. In the proposed strategy, to support real time, delay-sensitive services, whenever a frame is transmitted from the source, each relay actively senses the SINR of the signal transmitted from the source, and determine whether to propose retransmission or not before the destination transmits feedback signal. To minimize the false retransmission decision or needless retransmission, we propose an adaptive sensing threshold optimization algorithm to maintain suboptimal sensing thresholds for each relay. By computer simulation, it is shown that the proposed cooperative ARQ retransmission scheme outperforms the conventional schemes with respect to frame transmission delay and frame loss probability in real time multimedia data transmission system.

This paper proposes a Truncated Type-II Hybrid ARQ scheme using an adaptive modulation system to achieve high throughput data transmission systems for mobile communication systems. In this paper, the adaptive modulation system analyzed in Nakagami (m-distribution) fading channel environment. The adaptive modulation system controls the modulation level and symbol rate according to the Nakagami fading parameter(m). When the received $E_bN_0$ is high or the Nakagami fading parameter m is high, the propose system selects higher modulation level and higher symbol rate to increase throughput. On the other hand, this system selects lower modulation level and lower symbol rate to prevent throughput performance degradation when the received $E_bN_0$ is low. The modulation method have been adopted QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying), 16 QAM(Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), 64 QAM, 256 QAM. Therefore, Adaptive Modulation Systems with Truncated Type-II Hybrid ARQ Scheme is proper for mobile and radio for mobile and radio data communication system that require high reliability and delay-limited applications.
