A Study on the automation of external collector type solar-dehumidification drying of wood using a personal computer (개인용(個人用)컴퓨터를 이용(利用)한 외부집열판형(外部集熱板型) 제습태양열(除濕太陽熱) 목재건조(木材乾燥)의 자동화(自動化)에 관한 연구(硏究))

  • An experimental external external collector type, solar dehumidification dryer was retrofitted with a simple computer-based control system. Solar, solar-dehumidification, and air-drying of 3cm-thick douglas-fir were carried out to investigate the drying-conditions and characteristics of this system, and to analyze the energy efficiencies of each drying met hods in summer. The drying rate of solar-dehumidification was 12%/day, which was about 2 times and 3 times faster than that of solar-and air-drying, respectively. The amount of diurnal temperature fluctuation inside the solar-dryer was greatly reduced and the energy efficiency was enhanced from 25% to 60% by the dehumidifier.

  • In this study, flow analysis and dehumidification experiments were performed on hollow fiber membrane module to confirm the dehumidification characteristics for its different configurations. The CFD for the three different models was conducted using $30^{\circ}C$ temperature and 30%RH inlet humidity for quantitative analysis. Each model has different shape parameters i.e. the number of baffles. Comparison between flow analysis results and dehumidification experiment results revealed a percentage error of about 5%. The difference in relative humidity between the inlet and outlet for each model was calculated using flow analysis data. It was established that the difference in relative humidity of the inlet and outlet for the refined model with three baffles was highest among the three modeled modules of hollow fiber membrane module, i.e. around 9%.

  • This research developed a hybrid heat pump system with the functions of dehumidification and heating, which uses simulated air that is like underground air, from an environmental chamber as a heat source. The system consisted of three evaporators and three condensers that were installed in series in the air passage, between the underground and load space. As results, the total amount of dehumidification was 2.726 kg/h, and the heating $COP_h$ was 1.84 at air intake temperature $17^{\circ}C$ and relative humidity 70%, which is a similar condition to underground air. We found that the total amount of dehumidification also increased with the air temperature and humidity. The system $COP_s$ was reached at 2.5, if we include the latent heat of dehumidification in the conventional heat pump system's COP.

  • In this study, based on CMA which is increasingly used for eco-friendly deicing materials, dehumidification MB made of sodium carbonate, $MgCl_2$/MgO (M/M), and SAP is to be produced. And its moisture absorption rate and dehumidification performance of the film are to be analyzed. And the data on the materials used for the dehumidification film are to be acquired. In case of the dehumidification MB, in which CMA and SAP are mixed, had poor film machinability due to foaming and moisture issues, but adding bentonite and calcium carbonate solved the problem. When a foaming agent was added to extend surface area between substances, CMA and M/M showed no remarkable difference, but SC showed large increase to 3.15 g/g. As the result of anti-corrosive test, CMA dehumidification film showed no corrosion while SC showed pitting corrosion and M/M showed corrosion.

Experimental Investigation on the Performance of Small-Sized Dehumidification Rotor for Residential Use (가정용 소형 제습로터의 성능에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • In Korea, summer is hot and humid, and air-conditioners consume too much electricity due to large amount of latent heat. Simultaneous usage of dehumidifier may reduce the latent heat and save the electricity. In this study, dehumidification performance was measured in a constant temperature and humidity chamber for a small-sized dehumdification rotor made of inorganic fiber impregnated with metallic silicate. Variables were rotor speed, room temperature, regeneration temperature, room relative humidity and frontal velocity to the rotor. Results showed that there existed optimum rotor speed (1.0 rpm), and optimum regeneration temperature ($100^{\circ}C$). Above the optimum rotor speed, incomplete regeneration is responsible for reduced dehumidification. Above the optimum regeneration temperature, increased temperature difference between regeneration and dehumidification process is responsible for reduced dehumidification. The amount of dehumidification also increases with the increase of relative humidity, dehumidification temperature and flow velocity into the rotor.

  • To facilitate comparative analysis on the effects of numerous parameters concerning design and operation of a desiccant rotor, it is firstly required to represent the dehumidification performance as numerical indices. In this work is proposed two performance indices of a desiccant rotor: the humidity effectiveness and the enthalpy-leak ratio. The humidity effectiveness represents the actual dehumidification as compared with the dehumidification in an ideal case, while the enthalpy-leak ratio represents the enthalpy transfer from the regeneration side to the dehumidification side. In an ideal case, the two indices approach one and zero, respectively. The effects of numerous parameters on the dehumidification performance of a desiccant rotor are investigated through numerical simulation and represented with the two indices. The results show that the performance indices are mainly determined by three nondimensional parameters each representing the thermal capacity, the sorption capacity, and the transfer capacity of a desiccant rotor.

  • In the environment with high humidity causes negative influence on human's body and living condition. As the weather gets more humid, people's interest of dehumidifier for household arising recently. The cooling dehumidifier dehumidify the air by using refrigeration cycle technology which means it removes vapor by let the humid air pass through the cold surface. The amount dehumidified of refrigerating method dehumidifier affected by multiple factors. However, the refrigerating method dehumidifier for household in the market controls pass wind velocity technology to adjust the amount of dehumidification. As the pass wind velocity increases, the amount of wind increases hence the heat exchange amount increases accordingly. However, the amount of dehumidification decreases because the temperature difference between the air and vaporization decreases. Therefore, simply by increasing air velocity does not increase the amount of dehumidification. This research examined the effect of air velocity out of all variety of factors to the amount of dehumidification for refrigerating method dehumidifier.

  • This paper presents an effective cooling dehumidification method to remove odorous gas from food-wastes. The odorous gases, such as Styrene, Ammonia, Hydrogen sulfide and Acetaldehyde, are produced in environments where temperature is $50\sim80^{\circ}C$ and humidity is $40\sim70%$. Under such conditions, experiments are performed reiteratively using experiment equipments. The effect of the cooling dehumidification is measured via measuring instrument, and this research is focused on improving efficiency. The effect of cooling dehumidification using measuring instrument is validated. At $80^{\circ}C$, four type of gases that was mentioned previously showed generally better cooling efficiency with a good result for a component concentration. Among them, hydrogen sulfide gas demonstrated the highest reduction of 50%.

  • Dehumidification systems have been developed for the various applications, especially for the production of dry compressed air. Compressed air producing system attach $\varepsilon$ d with dehumidification unit have advantages such as high reliability, low error ratio, comfortable working conditions, etc. Conventional dehumidification systems have several economical drawbacks like high electric cost, high cost of adsorbent and it is not environmentally friendly system because freezing agent like a Freon has been used. Membrane dryer is emerging system which have economical advantages and environmental merits.

  • Dedicated outdoor air-conditioning(DOA) system that utilizes pre-cooling and desiccant dehumidification can be superior to conventional cooling and reheating system with respect to energy consumption and indoor thermal comfort. In this work, simulation has been conducted to study various factors that affect the performance of DOA. Dynamic simulation shows the transient variation of temperature and humidity as the on/off control logic is imposed. Exit humidity of process air and flow rate are varied to study the effect on exit temperature of process air, dehumidification quantity, required regeneration temperature and exit humidity of regeneration air. For an outdoor air condition of $28.5^{\circ}C$ temperature, 16 g/kg humidity ratio and 2000 cmh flow rate, the dehumidification efficiency is increased by 4.6% as the flow rate is doubled.
