Simulations enable virtually experiencing rare events as well as analytically analyzing such events. Defense modeling and simulation research and develops the virtual and the constructive simulations to support these utilizations. These virtual and constructive(VC) simulations can interoperate to simultaneously virtual combat experience as well as evaluations on tactics and intelligence of combat entities. Moreover, recently, for artificial intelligence researches, it is necessary to retrieve human behavior data to proceed the imitation learning and the inverse reinforcement learning. The presented work illustrates a case study of VC interoperations in the aircombat scenario, and the work analyze the collected human behavior data from the VC interoperations. Through this case study, we discuss how to build the VC simulation in the aircombat area and how to utilize the collected human behavior data.
Drones, which have rapidly grown along with the 4th industrial revolution, spread over industries and also widely used for military purposes. In recent wars in Europe, drones are being evaluated as a game changer on the battlefield, and their importance for military use is being highlighted. The Republic of Korea Army also planned drone-bot systems including various drones suitable for echelons and missions of the military as future defense forces. The keyword of these drone-bot systems is autonomy by artificial intelligence. In addition, common use of operating platforms is required for the rapid development of various types of drones. In this paper, we propose software framework that applies diverse artificial intelligence technologies such as multi-agent system, cognitive architecture and knowledge-based context reasoning for mission autonomy and common use of military drones.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, the spread of the untact culture and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which generates various types of data, generated so much data that it was not compared to before. This led to higher data throughput, revealing little by little the limitations of the existing network system centered on vendors and hardware. Recently, SDN technology centered on users and software that can overcome these limitations is attracting attention. In addition, SDN-based load balancing techniques are expected to increase efficiency in the load balancing area of the server cluster in the data center, which generates and processes vast and diverse data. Unlike existing SDN load distribution studies, this paper proposes a load distribution technique in which a controller checks the state of a server according to the occurrence of an event rather than periodic confirmation through a monitoring technique and allocates a user's request by weighting it according to a load ratio. As a result of the desired experiment, the proposed technique showed a better equal load balancing effect than the comparison technique, so it is expected to be more effective in a server cluster in a large and packet-flowing data center.
The paradigm of warfare is undergoing a revolutionary transformation due to the advancements in technology brought forth by the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Specifically, the U.S. military has introduced the concept of mosaic warfare as a means of military innovation, aiming to integrate diverse resources and capabilities, including various weapons, platforms, information systems, and artificial intelligence. This integration enhances the ability to conduct agile operations and respond effectively to dynamic situations. The incorporation of mosaic warfare could facilitate efficient and rapid command and control by integrating AI staff with human commanders. Ukrainian military operations have already employed mosaic warfare in response to Russian aggression. This paper focuses on the mosaic war fare concept, which is being proposed as a model for future warfare, and suggests the strategy for introducing the Korean mosaic warfare concept in light of the changing battlefield paradigm.

In the domain of Korean weapon system development, issues about software reliability have become crucial factors when developing a weapon system. There is a process required for weapon system software development and management that includes certain activities required to improve the reliability of software. However, these activities are biased toward static and dynamic analyses of source code and do not include activities necessarily required by the international standard. IEEE std. 1633-2016 defines a process for software reliability engineering and describes software reliability estimation as an essential activity in the process. Software reliability estimation means that collecting defective data during the test and estimating software reliability by using the statistical model. Based on the estimated model, developers could estimate the failure rate and make comparisons with the objective failure rate to determine termination of the test. In this study, we collected defective data and applied reliability estimation models to analyze software reliability in the development of a weapon system. To achieve objective software reliability, we continuously tested our software and quantitatively calculated software reliability. Through the research, we hope that efforts to include activities described by the international standard will be carried out in the domain of Korean weapon system development.

The high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying coating technique has been considered a promising replacement for traditional electrolytic hard chrome plating (EHC), which caused environmental pollution and lung cancer due to toxic Cr6+. In this paper, two types of cermet coatings were prepared by HVOF spraying: WC-CoCr and WC-CrC-Ni coatings. The produced coatings were analyzed extensively in terms of the micro-hardness, porosity, crystalline phase and microstructure using a hardness tester, optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy (including energy dispersed spectroscopy (EDS)), respectively. The wear and friction behaviors of the coatings were evaluated comparatively by reciprocating sliding wear tests at 25 ℃, 250 ℃, and 450 ℃. The results revealed correlations among the microstructures, metallic binder matrixes, porosities, and wear performance of the coatings. For example, WC-CoCr coatings showed better sliding wear resistance than WC-CrC-Ni coatings, regardless of the test temperature due to the more homogeneous microstructure, Co-rich, Cr-rich metallic binder matrix, and lower porosity.

The purpose of this study is to propose a useful method of solving the problem of thermal stability in surge protection devices (SPDs). First of all, the existence of the problem in the developed SPDs was confirmed by experiment. After analyzing the problem, a useful method of solving it is proposed and implemented. An experiment is performed to verify the performance of the implemented device. The results of this study are as follows; it is revealed that the problem of the thermal stability results from the varistor, one of the components in the SPD. A varistor with a built-in thermal fuse is applied to the SPD for the purpose of solving the problem. The experimental results confirmed that the thermal stability was improved by replacing the varistor. As a result of this study, the reliability of radar control units is enhanced and the probability of malfunction is reduced.

This study performed the quality improvement of a red dot sight for a 40 mm grenade launcher through parallax reduction. The red dot sight cited in this study is currently in mass production for military use as a non-weapon system. While the red dot sight's parallax currently meets requirements, slightly greater error was observed on the outside of effective optical area of the reflection lens compared to other sights. Parallax is easily affected by eye movement, which can result in aiming error. To improve the red dot sight's quality, this study analyzed why parallax is observed in the effective optical area of the reflection lens and how to reduce it. As a result, the red dot sight demonstrated lower parallax error using the new optical system design with an increased reflection lens thickness and modified components configuration related to the reflection lens assembly. Parallax was calculated and simulated by using a particular program to verify that it decreased. This improvement for the 40 mm. grenade launcher red dot sight more than satisfies requirements, offers advanced capabilities for users, and as a result, successful operation carryout.

In this study, acombined cogeneration power plant produced two types of thermal energy and electric or mechanical power in a single process. The performance of each component of the gas turbine-combined cogeneration system was expressed as a function of the fuel consumption of the entire system, and the heat and electricity performance of each component. The entire system consisted of two gas turbines in the upper system, and two heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), a steam turbine, and two district heat exchangers in the lower system. In the gas turbine combined cogeneration system, the performance test after 10,000 hours of operation time, which is subject to an ASME PTC 46 performance test, was carried out by the installation of various experimental facilities. The performance of the overall output and power plant efficiency was also analyzed. Based on the performance test data, the test results were compared to confirm the change in performance. This study performed thermodynamic system analysis of gas turbines, heat recovery steam generators, and steam turbines to obtain the theoretical results. A comparison was made between the theoretical and actual values of the total heat generation value of the entire system and the heat released to the atmosphere, as well as the theoretical and actual efficiencies of the electrical output and thermal output. The test results for the performance characteristics of the gas turbine combined cogeneration power plant were compared with the thermodynamic efficiency characteristics and an error of 0.3% was found.

In the clutter environment, it is necessary to update the target tracking filter by detecting the target signal among many measured value data obtained via the radar system, the track does not diverge, and tracking performance is maintained. The method of associating the measurement most relevant to the target track among numerous measurement values is referred to as data association. PSNF and PSNF-m are data association methods of SN-series. In this paper, we provide an IPSNF-m(Integrated Probabilistic Strongest Neighbor Filter-m) algorithm with a track management method based on the track existence probability in PSNF-m algorithm. This algorithm considers not only the presence of the target but also the case where the target is present but not detected. Calculating the probability of each caseenables efficient management. In order to verify the performance of the proposed IPSNF-m, the track existence probability of the IPSNF algorithm applying the track management technique to PSNF, which is known to have similar performance to PSNF-m, is derived. Through simulation in the same environment, we compare and analyze the proposed algorithm with RMSE, Confirmed True Track, and Track Existence Probability that show better performance in terms of track retention and estimation than the existing PSNF-m and IPSNF algorithms.
