Platysma myocutaneous flap - its current role in reconstructive surgery of oral soft tissue defects

  • Reconstruction of oral soft-tissue defects following resection of oral carcinomas can be achieved using various techniques including microsurgical tissue transfer. However, there seems to be a role for regional or local flaps. Small to medium-size defects can be functionally reconstructed with the platysma myocutaneous flap as an excellent choice particularly in medically compromised patients not being eligible for free tissue transfer. The present paper reviews the indication, surgical technique, and complications following reconstruction of defects of the oral cavity with the platysma myocutaneous flap.

  • The $AgInS_2$ epilayers with chalcopyrite structure grown by using a hot-wall epitaxy (HWE) method have been confirmed to be a high quality crystal. After the as-grown $AgInS_2$/GaAS was annealed in Ag-, S-, and In-atmosphere, the origin of point defects of the $AgInS_2$/GaAs has been investigated by using the photoluminescence (PL) at 10 K. The native defects of $V_{Ag}$, $V_s$, $Ag_{int}$, and $S_{int}$ obtained from PL measurement were classified to donors or acceptors type

편광필름 결함검출을 위한 영상처리기법 (An Image Processing Technique for Polarizing Film Defects Detection)

  • 본 논문에서는 TFT-LCD 편광필름의 결함을 검출하기 위한 새로운 영상처리기법을 제안한다. 레이저 반사광을 이용하여 획득한 편광필름 영상에서 우선 배경잡음을 제거하기 위하여 형태론적 영상처리기법(열림, 닫힘)을 사용한다. 배경잡음이 제거된 영상으로부터 결함을 검출하기 위하여 2차원 LMS 적응 예측기를 사용하여 밝은 결함을 검출하고 통계적 특성을 이용하여 어두운 결함을 검출한다. 산업현장에서 제공된 TFT-LCD 편광필름을 사용하여 제안된 기법의 성능을 평가한다.

  • The purpose of this research is to propose a system to detect a strip defect on a iron plate using an image processing, one way of finding defects on an iron plate. An existing way of image processing is using a light source which release a light energy in a certain frequency and a light absorbing display which responds to the light source. This research attempts to detect defects by using the image processing which handles an illumination, without depending on characteristics of light frequency. One of the advantages of this method is that it makes up for the weakness of the existing method which was too difficult for users to notice a defect. Also this method makes it possible to realize a real-time monitoring on a plate of iron.

  • In this study, numerical investigation has been performed on the impingement, spreading and solidification of a coating material droplet impacting onto a solid substrate in the thermal spray process. The numerical model is validated through the comparison of the present numerical result with experimental data fer the flat substrate without surface defects. An analysis of deposition formation on the non-polished substrate with surface defects is also performed. The parametric study is conducted with various surface defect sizes and shapes to examine the effect of surface defects on the impact and solidification of the liquid droplet on the substrate.

  • Electronic Speckle Pattern for quantitative evaluation of a impact defect inside of composite material plate are described. The impact on composite material makes inside delamination which is difficult to detect visual inspection and ultrasonic testing due to non-homeogenous structure. This paper proposes the quantitative evaluation technique of defects under real impact. Artificial defects are designed inside of composite plate for development of inspection technique and real defects under impact are inspected and compared with results of visual inspection.

  • Monitoring and diagnosis of the operating machine mean evaluating the condition of a machine such as the detection of the defects and the prediction of the time to failure in the machine elements, while it is running. In this study, a technique of automatic diagnosis using probability concept is studied and the analyses of the pattern comparison are introduced. An expert system, which is able to analyze the automatic identification of the multiple defects in the ball bearings, is also developed. Finally, to confirm the effectiveness of the programmed algorithms, some tests were made with specimens of the ball bearings involving the multiple defects. The proposed system reasonably predicts the defects.

  • In this study, fatigue crack behavior between arbitrarily located defects was investigated by experiment. Especially, stress interaction between micro hole defects and fatigue cracking, and fatigue crack initiation life following the variation of location of micro hole defects were considered. In addition, crack initiation position by micro hole stress interaction and the relationship between stress concentration factor and fatigue initiation life are studied in detail.

  • An on-line quality control of hot steel products is one of the important issues in the steel industry because of cost minimization. In recent years, relative depth information of surface defects is increasingly required for strict quality control. In this paper, a 3D shape reconstruction scheme for defects on a hot steel surface based on a multi-spectral photometric stereo method is proposed. After simultaneously illuminating a hot steel surface by using vertical/horizontal linearly polarized lights of green and blue light sources, the corresponding 4 images are obtained. The photometric stereo method is then applied with the aid of a GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) to reconstruct the shape of the target surface based on these images. The proposed scheme was validated through experiments.
