Defect dispute in apartment building has become a debating social issue. The system of defect lawsuit and the conciliation process are applicable to solve defect problems in South Korea. Among various defects, painting work defect is a critical issue because it requires large area works and entails a lot of cost. Accordingly, disputes on work procedure and cost calculation are argued oftenly between residents and housing providers. This study reviewed detailed main issues of painting work and propose relevant systems and standards. In this analysis, the main issues are categorized into pre-works, main work, and others. The most recent cases are compared and analyzed for each issue. After the analysis, following conclusions are obtained, (1) In defect lawsuit system, even though surface treatment work in pre-work step is part of main work, it has been separated and regarded as a separate work. (2) Although the main painting work are not significantly different from two systems, it is still necessary to achieve a consensus to close the gap in the methodology of painting area calculation and determining whole painting or partial painting. (3) In addition, unlike the profit rate of general construction works, that of painting work remained the maximum rate and additional charge rate for works carried out in higher place are different among cases. Therefore, it is determined that establishing consistent standards is urgent.

Defect on the temporal area caused by, surgical ablation of a tumor or an infection should be reconstructed immediately to prevent potentially life-threatening complications such as meningitis and cerebrospinal fluid leakage. The defect on the temporal area usually presents as a typical 'cone-shape'. Successful reconstruction requires sufficient volume of well-vascularized soft tissue to cover the exposed bone and dura. From 1994 through 2003, the authors applied rectus abdominis free flap for the reconstruction of the temporal defect from 1994 through 2003. There were 10 patients with a mean age of 52.1 years. Of these 10 patients, external auditory canal cancer was present in four patients, temporal bone cancer in two, parotid gland cancer in one and three patients were reconstructed after debridement of infection(destructive chronic otitis media). All the free flaps survived, and flap-related complications did not occur. Compared to a local flap, the rectus abdominis free flap can provide sufficient volume of well-vascularized tissue to cover the large defect and can be well-tolerated during an adjuvant radiation therapy. The long and flat muscle can be easily molded to fit in to the 'cone-shape' temporal defect without dead space. It is also preferred because of the low donor site morbidity, a large skin island and an excellent vascular pedicle. Two-team approach without position change is possible. In conclusion, the authors think that rectus abdominis free flap should be considered as one of the most useful method for the reconstruction of a cone-shaped temporal defect.
Based on current evidence in the literature, it is known that endotoxin is a weakly adherent surface phenomenon and that power-driven instruments can be used to accomplish definitive root detoxification and maximal wound healing without overinstrumentation of root and without extensive cementum removal. And one of the newly developed curette tips used with low power of piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler, is effective to remove calculus and not to remove the excessive cementum. The purpose of this study is therefore, to assess the influence of ultrasonic power and various working parameters on root substitute removal when instrumentation is performed with the curette tip on piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler. This study assessed defect depth, width and area resulting from instrumentation using a piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler with a curette type tip in vitro to acrylic resin block as a root substitute. The working parameters was standardized by the sledge device which controls lateral force(0.5 N, 1 N, 2 N) and instrumentation time(5 sec, 10 sec, 20 sec) and power setting was adjusted 0,2,4,8 in P mode. Power setting had the greatest influence on defect depth compared to lateral force and instrumentation time(standardized regression parameter estimates${\pm}$standard error, $0.37{\pm}0.02$, $0.19{\pm}0.02$, $0.07{\pm}0.02$). The effects on defect area also greatest for power setting($0.57{\pm}0.03$) compared to lateral force and instrumentation time($0.33{\pm}0.03$, $0.12{\pm}0.03$). The effect of the power setting on the defect width($0.15{\pm}0.01$) is not so great as defect depth or defect area compared to lateral force($0.12{\pm}0.01$) and effect of instrumentation time is minimal($0.02{\pm}0.01$). It could be concluded that the power setting has the greatest influence on the defect depth and area in curette type tip with low power of piezoelectric ultrasonic device. Many parameters can be adjusted in various situation in clinical use of piezoelectric ultrasonic scaler but the power setting is the first parameter to be adjusted.

The purpose of this study was to detect the pin hole defect of dental composite restoration using lock-in thermography method. Amplitude and phase images of the composite resin specimens were analyzed according to the lock-in frequency and the diameter of defect area. Through the amplitude image analysis, at lock-in frequency of 0.05 Hz, defect diameters 2-5 mm exhibited the highest amplitude contrast value between defective area and sound area. The lock-in frequency range of 0.3-0.5 Hz provided good phase angle contrast for the defect area. At lock-in frequency range of 0.5 Hz, defect diameter of 5 mm exhibited the highest phase contrast value. It is concluded that the infrared lock-in thermography method verified the effectiveness for detecting the pin hole defect of dental composite restoration.

Defect inspection system for industrial applications takes the important portion. Non-destructive inspection method has been significantly improved. Infrared thermography, as one of method for non-destructive inspection, can provide relatively precise data and quick inspection time. This study, it was performed to measure defect according to the measurement limit of the non-visible areas such as the back surface of the pipe using reflection plate using reflection plate based on Infrared thermography. The materials of the reflection plate were determined in consideration of the space limitation and the thermal characteristics, and defects were detected by the manufactured reflection plate. Detection of defect in non-visible area using the candidate materials for reflection plate was conducted.

The objective of this study is to classify the geometry of wall-thinning defect that causes a circumferential crack in the pipe elbows subjected to internal pressure. For this objective, first of all a criterion to determine the occurrence of circumferential cracking at wall-thinned area was developed based on finite element simulation for burst tests of pipe elbow specimens that showed axial and circumferential cracking at wall-thinned area. In addition, parametric finite element analysis including various wall-thinning geometries, locations, and pipe geometries was conducted and the wall-thinning geometries that initiate circumferential crack were determined by applying the criterion to the results of parametric analysis. It showed that the circumferential crack occurs at wall-thinning defect, which has a deep, wide, and short geometry. Also, it is indicated that the pipe elbows with larger radius to thickness ratio are more susceptible to circumferential cracking at wall-thinned area.
Calvarial bone grafting in craniomaxillofacial trauma and facial reconstructive surgery is now widely recognized and accepted as a standard procedure. One of the commonly reported problems of calvarial bone graft is the contour defect caused by partial resorption of the graft. But, there are few reports that discuss the fate of the calvarial bone graft based on the quantitative data. In this article, the changes of grafted calvarial bone were evaluated using 3-dimensional computed tomography(CT). 9 patients were observed with the CT scans at 2mm thickness immediately after operation and at the time of last follow-up. The area of the bone defect was segmented on the 3-dimensional CT image and calculated by AnalyzeDirect 5.0 software. The immediate postoperative bone defect area of the recipient site and the donor site were $612.9mm^2$ and $441.5mm^2$, respectively, which became $1028.1mm^2$ and $268.8mm^2$, respectively at the last follow-up. In conclusion, the bone defect area was less increased on the donor site of calvarial bone graft than on the recipient site. And the CT scan is a valuable imaging method to assess and follow-up the clinical outcome of calvarial bone grafting.
A defect in an image is a set of pixels forming an irregular shape. Since a defect, in most cases, is not easy to be modeled mathematically, the defect detection problem still resides in a research area. If a given image, however, composed by certain patterns, a defect can be detected by the fact that a non-defect area should be explained by another patch in terms of a rotation, translation, and noise. In this paper, therefore, the defect detection method for a repeated multi-patterned image is proposed. The proposed defect detection method is composed of three steps. First step is the interest point detection step, second step is the selection step of a appropriate patch size, and the last step is the decision step. The proposed method is illustrated using SEM images of semiconductor wafer samples.

In this paper, we suggest a method of detecting defects by applying Hough transform and least squares on ceramic images obtained from non-destructive testing. In the ceramic images obtained from non-destructive testing, the background area, where the defect does not exist, commonly show gradual change of luminosity in vertical direction. In order to extract the background area which is going to be used in the detection of defects, Hough transform is performed to rotate the ceramic image in a way that the direction of overall luminosity change lies in the vertical direction as much as possible. Least squares are then applied on the rotated image to approximate the contrast value of the background area. The extracted background area is used for extracting defects from the ceramic images. In this paper we applied this method on ceramic images acquired from non-destructive testing. It was confirmed that extracted background area could be effectively applied for searching the section where the defect exists and detecting the defect.
In this paper, the influence of several factors such as hardness, internal defect and non-propagating crack on fatigue limits was investigated with three kinds of ductile iron specimens. From the experimental results the fatigue limits were examined in relation with hardness and tensile strength in case of high strength specimens under austempering treatment; in consequence the marked improvement of fatigue limits were not showed. The maximum defect size was an important factor to predict and to evaluate the fatigue limits of ductile irons. And, the quantitative relationship between the fatigue limits$({\sigma}_w)$ and the maximum defect sizes $(\sqrt{area}_{max})$ was expressed as ${\sigma}_w^n{\cdot}{\sqrt{area}}_{max}=C_2$. Also, it was possible to explain the difference for the fatigue limits in three ductile irons by introduction of the non-propagating crack rates.
