This is a leading study to replace the structural analysis methodology on the specific traditional joint by a numerical analysis. Tests were carried out to test the compressive methodologies with the numerical results. The Japanese larch was used as a sample. The Orthotropic property of wood was specifically considered for the finite element numerical analysis. Linear numerical analysis and non-linear numerical analysis for the BEAM element and the two SOLID elements of ANSYS were used to analyze the compressive performance. In addition, more finely divided elements were used to raise the accuracy of the numerical result. Finally, the statistically significant differences were tested between that of the analytical and numerical results. It could be concluded that the SOLID 64 element shows the most optimum result when the non-linear analysis with the more finely divided element was used. However, finely dividing of the element is a considerable time consuming process, and it is quite difficult to raise the accuracy of the non-linear numerical analysis. Therefore, if considering the vertical displacement to be of the only interest, the BEAM element is more efficient than the SOLID element because the BEAM element is reflected as a simple line, which is less time consuming and difficult in dividing the elements. But, the BEAM element cannot accurately model the knot as a strength defect factor which is an important property in the orthotropic property of wood. Therefore, the SOLID element should be used to model the strength defect factor, knot, as it can be efficiently applied on the structural size flexure member which could be more strongly effected by the knot. In addition, it is useful at times when the failure types of members are to be more closely investigated, as the SOLID element is able to examine the local stress distribution of the member. The conclusion drawn by this study is of the good concordance between analytical results and numerical results of compressive wood members, but how orthotropic properties should only be considered. The numerical analysis on the specific Korean traditional joints will be based on the current study results.
In this paper, the characteristics analysis of the eddy current sensor by using boundary element method package is presented. For the boundary element analysis. Faraday, which is the commercial package of the integrated engineering software, is used. To observe the impedance characteristic of the eddy current senor with the sensor position and lift-off, the eddy current testing analysis is performed on the ferromagnetic plate with defect. Considering the skin depth of the ferromagnetic specimen, the 800(Hz) driving source is chosen. The result shows that electro motive force is reduced as the probe moves to near the defect and the lift-off of the probe increases.
For saving time and cost of experiment Finite Element Method has been developed for several decades. It's the defect of FEM that when we are in processing of finite element analysis, the material if deformed so much that we can't proceed analysis any more. In this case, the remeshing process should be done on this material. In hot forging process, almost all remeshing process does not consider flash of the material. Because as mesh size become swatter, consuming time become larger. But if mesh size is big, there is the defect that the result of analysis is not so accurate. So, new remeshing algorithm is needed to save time and to get more accurate result.
The NDT(Non-Destructive Testing) is valid fur the defect detection of rolling stocks because it can be used to detect defects in invisible places. For example, in case of wheelsets fatigue cracks are initiated in the wheel seat that suffers from fretting fatigue damage. But the conventional ICFPD method can not be applied to detect such cracks in press-fit area of the axle by some technical problems. In this study, we introduced a new ICFPD (Induced Current Focusing Potential Drop) method that can be applied in press-fit area of the axle. And we performed the finite element analysis of the new ICFPD method using measured electromagnetic properties of the wheel and axle. It seems that our approach is very useful f3r the detection of defects in invisible places.
In this paper, a method for improving the defect classification performance in steel plate surface has been studied, based on DWT(discrete wavelet transform) and SVM(support vector machine). Surface images of the steel plate have low contrast, uneven, and featureless, so that the contrast between defect and defect-free regions is not discriminated. These characteristics make it difficult to extract the feature of the surface defect image. In order to improve the characteristics of these images, a synthetic images based on discrete wavelet transform are modeled. Using the synthetic images, edge-based features are extracted and also geometrical features are computed. SVM was configured in order to classify defect images using extracted features. As results of the experiment, the support vector machine based classifier showed good classification performance of 94.3%. The proposed classifier is expected to contribute to the key element of inspection process in smart factory.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of local wall thinning on the collapse of elbow subjected to internal pressure and bending moment. Thus, the nonlinear 3D finite element analyses were performed to obtained collapse moment of elbow containing various wall thinning defects under two loading; modes (closing and opening modes) and defect locations (intrados and extrados). From the results of analyses, the influence of wall thinning defect on the global moment-rotation behavior of elbow was discussed, and the dependance of collapse moment of elbow on wall thinning depth, length, and circumferential angle was investigated under different loading mode and defect location.
This paper presents an analysis of RPC probe signal in steam generator tube with defect using finite element method. Impedance signal is calculated according to the depth variation of defect in tube and change of frequency in same defect. As the depth of the defect and the operating frequency is increased, the magnitude of the signal is increased. From the result of this paper, we can obtain the information by the effect of defect and frequency.

The time-reversal method is employed to improve the ability of pipeline defect detection, and a new approach of identifying the pipeline defect depth is proposed in this research. When the L(0,2) mode ultrasonic guided wave excited through a lead zirconate titinate (PZT) transduce array propagates along the pipeline with a defect, it will interact with the defect and be partially converted to flexural F(n, m) modes and longitudinal L(0,1) mode. Using a receiving PZT array attached axisymmetrically around the pipeline, the L(0,2) reflection signal as well as the mode conversion signals at the defect are obtained. An appropriate rectangle window is used to intercept the L(0,2) reflection signal and the mode conversion signals from the obtained direct detection signals. The intercepted signals are time reversed and re-excited in the pipeline again, result in the guided wave energy focusing on the pipeline defect, the L(0,2) reflection and the L(0,1) mode conversion signals being enhanced to a higher level, especially for the small defect in the early crack stage. Besides the L(0,2) reflection signal, the L(0,1) mode conversion signal also contains useful pipeline defect information. It is possible to identify the pipeline defect depth by monitoring the variation trend of L(0,2) and L(0,1) reflection coefficients. The finite element method (FEM) simulation and experiment results are given in the paper, the enhancement of pipeline defect reflection signals by time-reversal method is obvious, and the way to identify pipeline defect depth is demonstrated to be effective.

A new diagnosis method is developed in this paper, in which the fuzzy set theory is introduced to diagnose the defects of rolling element bearings. The selection of membership function and the fuzzy operation model are discussed in detail here. The system is successfully used for various defects diagnosis of rolling element bearings.
