A 3-D numerical simulation of a buried-channel CCD (Charge Coupled Device) with a deep depletion has been performed to investigate its electrical and physical behaviors. Results are presented for a deep depletion CCD (EEV CCD12; JET-X CCD) fabricated on a high-resistivity $(1.5k\Omega-cm)\;65{\mu}m$ thick epi-layer, on a $550{\mu}m$ thick p+ substrate, which is optimized for X-ray detection. Accurate predictions of the Potential minimum and barrier height of a CCD Pixel as a function of mobile electrons are found to give good charge transfer. The depletion depth approximation as a function of gate and substrate bias voltage provided average errors of less than 6%, compared with the results estimated from X-ray detection efficiency measurements. The result obtained from the transient simulation of signal charge movement is also presented based on 3-Dimensional analysis.
The visual analysis of buried channel (Be) devices such as buried channel MOSFETs and CCDs (Charge Coupled Devices) is investigated to give better understanding and insight for their electrical behaviours using a 3-dimensional (3-D) numerical simulation. This paper clearly demonstrates the capability of the numerical simulation of 'EVEREST' for characterising the analysis of a depletion mode MOSFET and BC CCD, which is a simulation software package of the semiconductor device. The inverse threshold and punch-through voltages obtained from the simulations showed an excellent agreement with those from the measurement involving errors of within approximately 1.8% and 6%, respectively, leading to the channel implanted doping profile of only approximately $4{\sim}5%$ error. For simulation of a buried channel CCD an advanced adaptive discretising technique was used to provide more accurate analysis for the potential barrier height between two channels and depletion depth of a deep depletion CCD, thereby reducing the CPU running time and computer storage requirements. The simulated result for the depletion depth also showed good agreement with the measurement. Thus, the results obtained from this simulation can be employed as the input data of a circuit simulator.

Buried channel JET-X CCDs (Joint European X-ray Telescope Charge Coupled Devices: EEV CCD12) with a deep depletion have been analyzed to provide an optimized condition for a charge storage and transfer. A maximum charge capacity has been found for the supplementary narrow channel by considering the potential distribution as a function of a mobile charge. Analysis for the depletion edges of JET-X CCDs have been successfully performed, showing good agreement with the depths estimated from X-ray detection efficiency measurements [1]. (omitted)
We are developing a CCD camera named CQUEAN (Camera for Quasars in Early Universe) to search for quasars at z > 7. CQUEAN has a 1024*1024 deep depletion CCD chip and will be attached to 2.1m Otto-Struve Telescope at McDonald Observatory, USA. Although commercial software for the CCD camera is provided by the vendor, we are going to develop our own software to control the other instruments as well, to carry out efficient observation. There are four major parts in our software: Instrument control part controls the camera and filter wheel to obtain imaging data. Quick look window is to display acquired imaging data for quick inspection. Telescope control part interfaces with Telescope Control System (TCS) to move the telescope and to get time or coordinate information. Finally, Observation scripting facility part carries out a series of short exposures in a batch. The whole software will be written in python on linux platform, using the instrument control software libraries provided by the vendors.
We present the characteristics and the performance of the new CCD camera system, SNUCAM-II (Seoul National University CAMera system II) that was installed on the Lee Sang Gak Telescope (LSGT) at the Siding Spring Observatory in 2016. SNUCAM-II consists of a deep depletion chip covering a wide wavelength from $0.3{\mu}m$ to $1.1{\mu}m$ with high sensitivity (QE at > 80% over 0.4 to $0.9{\mu}m$). It is equipped with the SDSS ugriz filters and 13 medium band width (50 nm) filters, enabling us to study spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of diverse objects from extragalactic sources to solar system objects. On LSGT, SNUCAM-II offers $15.7{\times}15.7$ arcmin field-of-view (FOV) at a pixel scale of 0.92 arcsec and a limiting magnitude of g = 19.91 AB mag and z=18.20 AB mag at $5{\sigma}$ with 180 sec exposure time for point source detection.
To search for the quasars at z > 7 in early universe, we are developing a optical camera which has a $1k\times1k$ deep depletion CCD chip, with later planned upgrade to HAWAII-2RG infrared array. We are going to attach the camera to the cassegrain focus of Otto Struve 2.1m telescope at McDonald observatory of University of Texas at Austin, USA. We present the design of a hardware interface to attach the CCD camera to the telescope. It consists of focal reducer, filter wheel, and guiding camera. Focal reducer is needed to reduce the long f-ratio (f/13.7) down to about 4 for wide field of view. The guiding camera design is based on that of DIAFI offset guider which developed for the McDonald 2.7m telescope.

SNUCAM-II will enable us to study Spectral Energy Distributions (SEDs) of diverse objects from extragalactic sources to solar objects in the southern hemisphere for research and education activities.

We report the current status of CQUEAN (Camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse) development. CQUEAN is an optical CCD camera which uses a 1024*1024 pixel deep-depletion CCD. It has an enhanced QE than conventional CCD at wavelength band around 1${\mu}m$, thus it will be an efficient tool for observation of quasars at z > 7. It will be attached to the 2.1m telescope at McDonald Observatory, USA. A telescope interface containing a focal reducer is being designed to secure a larger field of view at the cassegrain focus of 2.1m telescope. Instrument control software will be written with python on linux platform. We are carrying out lab tests to investigate the characteristics of the system components in order to maximize the observational efficiency. Preliminary results of the tests will be presented. CQUEAN is expected to see the first light during summer season of 2010.
Camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (CQUEAN) is an optical CCD camera system made by Center for Exploration of the Origin of the Universe (CEOU). CQUEAN is developed for follow-up observation of red sources such as high-redshift quasar candidates ($z{\geq}5$), gamma-ray bursts (GRB), brown dwarfs and young stellar objects. The CQUEAN is composed of a science camera with deep-depletion CCD chip which is sensitive at around $1{\mu}m$, a set of custom-made wide-band filters for detection of quasar candidates at z~5, and a guide camera. A focal reducer was developed to secure $4.8^{\prime}{\times}4.8^{\prime}$ field of view, and an in-house user software for efficient data acquisition. CQUEAN was attached to 2.1m Otto Struve Telescope in McDonald Observatory, USA, in August 2010. About 1000 quasar candidates including 3 confirmed with follow-up spectroscopy, have been observed so far, and many high-z galaxy cluster candidates, GRBs and supernovae were also observed. And monitoring of HBC 722, a young stellar object, is under way since 2011. Further enhancement of CQUEAN including the introduction of narrow-band filters is planned.
