AVLS Using the Dedicated Wireless Communication between Vehicle and Road-Side Equipment (차량과 노변기지국간 전용 무선 데이터 통신을 이용한 차량위치 추적 시스템)

  • In this paper, we propose an AVLS(Automatic Vehicle Location System) using the DSRC(Dedicated Short Range Communication) which adopts a radio communication tool between RSE(Road-Side Equipment) and OBE(On-Board Equipment) on a vehicle and uses the ISM bandwidth of 5.8GHz radio frequency. Typical AVLS uses the sensors for detecting the vehicle, but the DSRC system is developed for supporting various services such as the position of vehicle, clearance, vehicle to vehicle communication, collection and distributions of traffic and road information. Also, for fast processing, we design three-layer configuration of physical(L1), data link(L2), and application layer(L7), which simplifies the seven-layer configuration. We suggest the proposed system as a new technology for replacement of typical wireless communication system and sensors for AVLS.

  • AGV is most often used for the automation of freight transportation in the manufacturing industry or the distribution warehouses. AGV is fairly costly and used in goods transport between the determined location. The main control device dedicated to AGV is often autonomously developed for simplification using PLC in industry field. However, AGV developed for simplification makes many errors in traffic because it is developed for the limited simple function. Control device dedicated to AGV has been developed to solve the problem but it is almost impossible to revise the device according to the character and structure of every manufacturing industry. The purpose of this study is to propose the design method of the control system interlocked with PLC and dedicated to AGV. The control system should be to improve the problem of traffic rolling and possible to be revised according to the character of factory. It is apparent the proposed AGV system is efficient in operation in the result of several traffic performance analysis through the tests.

A Design of Temperature Management System for Preventing High Temperature Failures on Mobility Dedicated Storage (모빌리티 전용 저장장치의 고온 고장 방지를 위한 온도 관리 시스템 설계)

  • With the rapid growth of mobility technology, the industrial sector is demanding storage devices that can reliably process data from various equipment and sensors in vehicles. NAND flash memory is being utilized as a storage device in mobility environments because it has the advantages of low power and fast data processing speed as well as strong external shock resistance. However, flash memory is characterized by data corruption due to long-term exposure to high temperatures. Therefore, a dedicated system for temperature management is required in mobility environments where high temperature exposure due to weather or external heat sources such as solar radiation is frequent. This paper designs a dedicated temperature management system for managing storage device temperature in a mobility environment. The designed temperature management system is a hybrid of traditional air cooling and water cooling technologies. The cooling method is designed to operate adaptively according to the temperature of the storage device, and it is designed not to operate when the temperature step is low to improve energy efficiency. Finally, experiments were conducted to analyze the temperature difference between each cooling method and different heat dissipation materials, proving that the temperature management policy is effective in maintaining performance.

  • Recently the number of Internet firms providing useful information like weather forecast data is growing. However most of such information is not prepared in accordance with customers' demand, resulting in relatively low customer satisfaction. To upgrade the service quality, it is recommended to devise a system for customers to get involved in the process of service production, which normally requires a huge investment on supporting computer systems like clusters. In this paper, as a way to cut down the budget for computer systems but to improve the performance, we extend the HPC cluster system to include other Internet servers working independently on the same LAN, to make use of their idle times. We also deal with some issues resulting from the extension, like the security problem and a possible deadlock caused by overload on some non-dedicated nodes. At the end, we apply the technique in the solution of some 2D grid problem.

  • We present the implementation of MAC system for MBOA UWB SoC. The implemented MBOA MAC algorithm is not master control mechanism, but distributed network mechanism. Therefore, mesh network can be easily constructed because MAC consists of distributed network and administrates network. The ARM926EJ with cache is adopted for high performnace and AMBA bus is applied for system design and reuse. In addition, the system operating clock management algorithm is implemented for low power consumption. The dedicated DMA for MAC is designed between the system memory buffer and MAC hardware, and the dedicated DMA for USB 2.0 is also implemented between system memory buffer and host for high data transaction.

  • To reduce the energy consumption of HVAC system in buildings, thermally activated building system(TABS) has been applied to low energy building because of energy efficient performance and reduction of peak load. DOAS coupled with a parallel sensible cooling could be promising because TABS handles sensible heat load only. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the indoor thermal environment and cooling operation characteristic of TABS with dedicated outdoor air system(DOAS) in Korea climate. Indoor thermal environment and operation characteristic of TABS integrated with DOAS are investigated at different TABS operation schedules and climate conditions by simulation tests. The result shows that the DOAS is more suitable for hot and humid climates. And also it show that the potential of intermittent operation of TABS.

  • This paper reports on a Realtime OS based motor control system for laparoscopic surgery robot which enables telesurgery and overcomes shortcomings with conventional laparoscopic surgery. The system has a conventional master-slave robot configuration and the control system consists of joint controllers, host controllers, and power units. The robot features (1) a compact slave robot with 5 DOF (Degree Of Freedom) expanding the workspace of each tool and increasing the number of tools operating simultaneously, and (2) direct 1:1 correspondence in the joint of master and slave robot that simplifies control algorithm and enhances reliability. Each master, slave and GUI (Graphical User Interface) host has a dedicated RTOS (RealTime OS), RTLinux-Pro (FSMLabs Inc., U.S.A.) Each master and slave controller set pair has a dedicated CAN (Controller Area Network) channel for control and monitoring signal communication. Total 4 pairs of the master/slave manipulators as current are monitored by one host controller for operation monitoring and higher level motion control. The system showed acceptable performance in both position control precision and master-slave motion synchronization and is now under further development for better safety and control fidelity for clinically applicable prototype.

  • In this paper, we analyzed performance of vehicle detection for ITS (Intelligent Transport System) applications. We simulated the vehicle detection at Hi-Pass System is based on DSRC (Dedicated Short Range Communication). DSRC is a wireless network using ITS, including GPS (Global Positioning System) satellites in conjunction with the national transportation system. The system performance is evaluated in terms of bit error probability. In the simulation, the vehicle speed is set at 60 km/h and carrier frequency is 5.8 GHz. Wireless channel is modeled as the Rician fading channel. In the transmitter, the ASK (amplitude shift keying) modulation scheme is applied. From simulation results, we confirmed that performance of applied Alamouti scheme is better than other systems.
