  • This study based on the laboratory works, analyzes factors affecting local scour in order to understand various characteristics of the local scour surrounding bridge piers. Attached with scour protection device as a method for decreasing local scour, it carries out the laboratory experiments and calculates the scour depth. From the experiments attached with the scour protection devices, it seems possible to reduce the scour depth as the protecting plate, column and sacrificial piles are built in the same height with flume bed at pier or footing upstream interrupted falling-flow. And then it could reduce scour depth. The paper presents the following research results: First, the decreasing degree of scour depth is in order of protecting column, protecting plate, sacrificial piles and non-protecting facilities. However, it shows no meaningful difference between protecting column and protecting plate. Second, when $L_p/b$=0.5~1, the decreasing effect of scour depth reached the maximum of 40 percents.

  • In order to estimate interfering effects of mercury and lead on biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), BOD in 18 effluent samples were measured under three different concentrations of mercury and lead. The results obtained were as follows: 1. Biochemical oxygen demand(BOD) was decreased under the presence of mercury and lead, with parallel correlation of mercury concentration. 2. High correlations were noted between original BOD concentration and decreasing amount of BOD when concentrations of mercury or lead were increased. 3. When the lead concentration was high, the close correlation was observed between total organic carbon(TOC) and decreasing amount of BOD. 4. There was a negative correlation between TOC/BOD ratio and decreasing amount of BOD when the mercury concentrations were high.

  • The addressing time should be reduced by modifying cell structure and/or driving method in order to replace the dual scan system by single scan and increase the luminance in large ac plasma display panel(PDP). In this paper, the effects of the addressing time was decreased with decreasing thickness of dielectric layer on the front glass and thickness of white dielectric layer on the rear glass. the decreasing rate were 160ns/10$\mu\textrm{m}$ and 270ns/10$\mu\textrm{m}$, respectively Also in case of decreasing the height of barrier rib, addressing time was decreased at the rate of Sons/10$\mu\textrm{m}$.

  • Hardness and internal stress are very important in nickel electroforming. Nickel sulfamate bath has been widely used in electroforming because of its low internal stress and moderate hardness. Nickel sulfamate bath without chloride was chosen to investigated the effect of plating variable such as temperature, PH, current density and sodium naphthalene trisulfonate as addition agent on the hardness and internal stress. It was found that hardness increased with increasing temperature and decreasing current density and ranged from 150∼310 DPH. The hardness was highest at $55^{\circ}C$ and 10∼40 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The internal stress increased with increasing current density and decreasing temperature. It was minimum at PH 3.0∼3.8. Low internal stress within $\pm$1,500 psi was obtained at both $50^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$ in 10-20 mA/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The addition of sodium naphthalene trisulfonate was found to be effective in refine columnar grains thus resulted in decreasing internal stress, increasing hardness and improving brightness.

  • The ILLUDAS and SWMM models were applied to the developing area of Dongsucheon for comparisons of the total runoff, peak discharge and travel time. For this purpose, the present and future urbanization rates were assumed 70% and 90%, respectively. The runoff analysis of two models has been performed based on 10, 20, 30 and 50 return periods and Huff's 4 quantiles for time distribution pattern of design rainfalls. As results, the total runoff based on Huff's pattern had an decreasing order of 1, 4, 3 and 2 quantiles for both models. The SWMM model showed that there were 4.3% increasing of the total runoff, 4.9% increasing of peak discharge, and 6.6% decreasing of travel time. Similarly, for ILLUDAS model, there were 7.3% and 9.2% increasing of total runoff and peak discharge, respectively and 9.1% decreasing of travel time.

  • Diazepam is known to have cardiovascular depressive effects through a combined action on benzodiazepinergic receptor and the GABA receptor-chloride ion channel complex. Moreover, it is known that barbiturates also have some cardiovascular regulatory effects mediated by the central GABAergic system. Therefore, this study was undertaken to delineate the regulatory actions and interactions of these systems by measuring the responses of the cardiovascular system and renal nerve activity to muscimol, diazepam and pentobarbital, administered intracerebroventricularly in rabbits. When muscimol $(0.03{\sim}0.3\;{\mu}\;g/kg)$, diazepam $(10{\sim}100\;{\mu}\;g/kg)$ and pentobarbital $(1{\sim}10\;{\mu}\;g/kg)$ were injected into the lateral ventricle of the rabbit brain, there were similar dose-dependent decreases in blood pressure (BP) and renal nerve activity (RNA). The relative potency of the three drugs in decreasing BP and RNA was muscimol > pentobarbital > diazepam. Muscimol and pentobarbital also decreased the heart rate in a dose-dependent manner; however, diazepam produced a trivial, dose-independent decrease in heart rate. Diazepam $(30\;{\mu}g/kg)$ augmented the effect of muscimol $(0.1\;{\mu}g/kg)$ in decreasing blood pressure and renal nerve activity, but pentobarbital $(3\;{\mu}g/kg)$ did not. Bicuculline $(0.5\;{\mu}g/kg)$, a GABAergic receptor blocker, significantly attenuated the effect of muscimol in decreasing BP and RNA, either alone or with diazepam, and that of pentobarbital in decreasing BP and RNA, either alone or with muscimol. We inferred that the central benzodiazepinergic and barbiturate systems help regulate peripheral cardiovascular function by modulating the GABAergic system, which adjusts the output of the vasomotor center and hence controls peripheral sympathetic tone. Benzodiazepines more readily modulate the GABAergic system than barbiturates.

  • The effect of sand grain size on the various properties of mold is not only basic but important interest which we have to deal with. And the relation among the various properties of mold (strength, permeability, flowability, compactability, hardness, deformation, toughness etc.) is very complicated and inaccurate, so we can delineate the behavior of mixture (sand+water+bentonite) with experience only. Within recent years a so-called rigid-water theory has been accepted as a means of advancing logical explanations for the research aimed at delineating sand-clay-water relationships. By changing grain size or mesh no. of grain, specimens have been subjected to green compressive strength, permeability, deformation, flowability, compactablity, toughness at room temperature. Under constant mulling energy and ratio of water/bentonite, the results obtained were as follows: 1. With decreasing grain size green compressive strength of the specimen increased. 2. With decreasing grain size permeability decreased. 3. With decreasing grain size flowability and bulk density decreased but compactability increased. 4. With decreasing grain size deformation decreased but toughness increased. 5. At 60 mesh no., the properties of specimen are conspicuously changed. The reason is that the total surface area of sand grain which affects the type of bonding between sand grains is more changed at 60 mesh number.

  • The effect of mechanical, properties in the plastic zone near the crack-tip was investigated, under various controlled loading conditions, i.e., ${\Delta}K$ increasing, ${\Delta}K$ decreasing, and single overload test. For both ${\Delta}K$ decreasing test and ${\Delta}K$ increasing test with constant stress ratio, it is found that the ratio of material constant m'( ${\Delta}K$ decreasing test) to material constant m( ${\Delta}K$ increasing test) is larger than 1 for n<0.1, and it is equal to 1 for 0.10.2. A modified crack growth rate equation based on Forman's equation which applied stable region of fatigue crack propagation in ${\Delta}K$ decreasing test is proposed. Within the limit of this single overload test, an empirical relation between among the retardation ratio (Nd/ $N^{*}$), the strain hardening exponent (n) and the percent peak load (%PL) has been established.established.

  • To understand the large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) behavior of complex fluids, we have investigated the flow behavior of a network model in the LAOS environment. We applied the LAOS flow to the model proposed by Vaccaro and Marrucci (2000), which was originally developed to describe the system of associating telechelic polymers. The model was found to predict at least three different types of LAOS behavior; strain thinning (G' and G" decreasing), strong strain overshoot (G' and G" increasing followed by decreasing), and weak strain overshoot (G' decreasing, G" increasing followed by decreasing). The overshoot behavior in the strain sweep test, which il often observed in some complex fluid systems with little explanation, could be explained in terms of the model parameters, or in terms of the overall balance between the creation and loss rates of the network junctions, which are continually created and destroyed due to thermal and flow energy. This model does not predict strain hardening behavior because of the finitely extensible nonlinear elastic (FENE) type nonlinear effect of loss rate. However, the model predicts the LAOS behavior of most of the complex fluids observed in the experiments.he experiments.

  • Purpose - On the basis of discussing the network economy concept and the commentary of the marginal revenue decreasing of traditional economic theory, The concept of network economy has just been put forward in recent years. The reason why such a concept appears is that the information technology, marked by computer network, plays an increasingly important role in economic activities. Some people define network economy as an economic form based on network technology and human capital. this paper points out network economy existing the marginal revenue increasing and analyzes the reasons that influencing the marginal revenue increasing. Research design, data, methodology - The network economy has fundamentally changed the traditional economic laws. The economic basis of industrial society is the law of incremental marginal cost, which reflects the socialization of high cost in industrial society. Results - As the number of network members increases, the value of the network increases explosively, and the value increases attract more members to join, resulting in more returns. Conclusion - In conclusion, network economy has changed many aspects of traditional economy, resulting in decreasing marginal cost, decreasing transaction cost in and out of enterprise organizations, and making the effect of increasing scale compensation more prominent. This is of great significance to the information construction in China.
