  • Among the domestic softwoods, technical value of Pinus koraiensis small diameter logs which have comparatively low applicability was evaluated and sensitive characteristics and physical characteristics were investigated and analyzed for examining if it can be utilized as the interior decoration material. For the sensitive characteristics of Pinus koraiensis, wood figure, wood grain, wood color and odor were evaluated and for the physical characteristics, growth-ring width and latewood percentage, abrasion, density, shrinkage, swelling, absorption, roughness and hardness were evaluated. Then, the possibility to be developed as the interior decoration material was found. As the result of evaluating sensitive characteristics and physical characteristics of domestic Pinus koraiensis, wood figure, wood grain, color and scent clearly were judged to have excellent visual factor as the interior decoration material. And, physical characteristics were also judged to be excellent, so it is judged to be developed as the interior decoration material. Therefore, as the result of various forms of design pattern with domestic Pinus koraiensis small diameter logs, several patterns of interior decoration can be developed by characteristics of each side and colors of heartwood and sapwood. • Design characteristics of the space depends on the type of design. This study organized gender perceptual characteristics from terminology that is used in the process of obtaining information about corresponding space intended to represent design types and the images which were selected by design experts. The results from the study are concluded as in the followings: First: in the Modern type, the males show "the somewhat high difference of the images" from formality and decoration. Also, the study shows that males perceive very high in "the very high difference of the images" from spatiality, formality, and decoration. Second: in case of modern and minimal types, females perceive the spatiality and the males perceive formality and decoration. This study shows that modern type contains a lot of adjective, which means the man overwhelmingly perceives than the woman perceives in the decoration of modern type. Third: while males in modern and minimal types perceive formality and decoration greatly, they perceive spatiality greatly in natural types. In contrast, females in modern and minimal types perceive spatiality greatly, but perceive decoration slightly larger in natural types. These results tell us that the gender can appear differently depending on which types. This study analyzed gender perception characteristics to the design types, which were selected by a group of design experts. The difference between the types of design occurs in the differences of space sense and image by gender. Through analyzing the differences of spatial types, it is clear that different genders perceive different characteristics.

  • The purpose of the this study is to make a historical review of changes in the structural decorations of men's costume from ancient times to modern times and to provide basic materials for developing handicraft decoration techniques and sewing methods in contemporary fashion. Their gorgeousness of collars and sleeves reached its peak along with the exaggerated expression of the human body during the Renaissance when people were free from Christian traditions of the Middle Ages and pursued human pleasures. Huge and decorative collars gave great dignity and formality to the wearer. Sleeves were slim and cuffs were small or nonexistent after the French Revolution. Various decorated pockets had been developed since pockets began to be attached to coats in the 17th century. Pockets were at the bottom of coat in the late 17th century, but they were gradually placed much higher on the coat. Buttons began to be used as the tool for sticking fast body to clothes in the 12th century and became extremely sumptuous accessories in the $16th{\sim}18th$ centuries. Men's clothes were simpler and more practical after the French Revolution. The result was that decorative buttons begun to disappear and metal buttons came out for practical purpose. The number of buttons worn on sleeves was also noticeably reduced. This research suggested the possibility that various decoration techniques could create the unique details in the each part of clothes. In order to develop high value-added products, we need to study various decoration-sewing methods and put to practical use them for creative fashion design.

  • Recent trends of interior design have a focus on creation of more various meanings rather than past ideology which sought after the compatibility to the function of modem design. These trends requires integral understanding of social and cultural ideologies with a sens of values for a certain periods. In addition, they also require creativity which able to read, find and solve consumer's diverse demand and desire. Considering the effort of trend forecasting in Korea is still heavily rely on the foreign trend shows, it is natural to attempt to study the analytical forecasting methodology based upon more systematic principles which lead to more objective outcome, when the understanding, forcasting and analysis of interior decoration trend are required. In this thesis, the analysis and forecasting of interior decoration trend are studied by means of verbal image code process which involves the induction of design concept through data extraction, classification and analysis, in order to understanding and satisfying the diversified consumer's demand and trend. The coding process of verbal image is understanding as general concept. by extracting common elements from abstract and individual image, and/or specific concept. Therefore, it is proposed that the database building and data mining process of verbal Image, and subsequent development of programming skill can be applied as more efficient tool for various verbal image process.

  • The goal of this paper is to explore the relationship between modern architecture and interior decoration through the study of decoration and ornament. It is noteworthy that modern architecture and interior decoration occurred at about the same time. Our analysis shows that the two are closely related to each other. That is to say, modern architecture tried to eliminate ornaments (and decorations), symbols and meanings from the built environments and to embody efficiency and rationality instead. However, in the interior of the building designed and completed by the architect, the user began to decorate his world through decoration or to refer such work to the new expert 'interior decorator'. In a word, the latter took charge of the role deserted by modern architecture.
