  • A large-scale analysis to evaluate complex material and structural behaviors is one of interesting topic in diverse engineering and scientific fields. Also, the utilization of massively parallel processors has been a recent trend of high performance computing. The objective of this paper is to introduce a parallel process system which consists of general purpose finite element analysis solver as well as parallelized PC cluster. The later was constructed using eight processing elements and the former was developed adopting both hierarchical domain decomposition method and balancing domain decomposition method. Then, to verify the efficiency of the established system, it was applied for structural analysis of steam generator in nuclear power plant. Since the prototypal evaluation results agreed well to the corresponding reference solutions it is believed that, after reinforcement of PC cluster by increasing number of processing elements, the promising parallel process system can be utilized as a useful tool for advanced structural integrity evaluation.

  • Aluminum base composites reinforced with various amount of SiC particles and Mg contents have been investigated by different fabrication method for twenty-years. In this paper, how the decomposition and dissolution behaviors of $SiCp(20{\mu}m)$ in the melt of Al composites arised was studied. As the results, the decomposition and dissolution of SiCp into the melt of Al composites increased with increase of the temperature above $720^{\circ}C$, and holding time at a given melting temperature. Because SiC is thermodynamically unstable in this Al-SiCp composite at temperature above the liquidus, SiCp dissolves and reacts with Al in matrix to form $Al_4C_3$ according to following chemical equation $4Al+3SiC{\rightarrow}Al_4C_3+3Si$, Si decomposed and dissolved from SiCp increases Si content of matrix, while liquidus temperature of matrix decrease with increase of SiC content in matrix. The hardness of SiCp decreased with increase of the melting temperature, the hardness of the matrix /particle interface increased with increase of the melting temperature due to increase of the $Mg_2Si$ and $Al_4C_3$ intermetallic compounds, etc.

  • In order to evaluate the start-up behavior and to identify, through abnormal operation occurrences, the transient behaviors of the Sulfur Iodine(SI) process, which is a nuclear hydrogen process that is coupled to a Very High Temperature Gas Cooled Reactor (VHTR) through an Intermediate Heat Exchanger (IHX), a dynamic simulation of the process is necessary. Perturbation of the flow rate or temperature in the inlet streams may result in various transient states. An understanding of the dynamic behavior due to these factors is able to support the conceptual design of the secondary helium loop system associated with a hydrogen production plant. Based on the mass and energy balance sheets of an electrodialysis-embedded SI process equivalent to a 200 $MW_{th}$ VHTR and a considerable thermal pathway between the SI process and the VHTR system, a dynamic simulation of the SI process was carried out for a sulfuric acid decomposition process (Second Section) that is composed of a sulfuric acid vaporizer, a sulfuric acid decomposer, and a sulfur trioxide decomposer. The dynamic behaviors of these integrated reactors according to several anticipated scenarios are evaluated and the dominant and mild factors are observed. As for the results of the simulation, all the reactors in the sulfuric acid decomposition process approach a steady state at the same time. Temperature control of the inlet helium is strictly required rather than the flow rate control of the inlet helium to keep the steady state condition in the Second Section. On the other hand, it was revealed that the changes of the inlet helium operation conditions make a great impact on the performances of $SO_3$ and $H_2SO_4$ decomposers, but no effect on the performance of the $H_2SO_4$ vaporizer.

  • Experiments of circulating water channel and two dimensional numerical simulations were performed to investigate the fluctuating characteristics of pressure in moonpool. Based on the quasi-two dimensional characteristics of pressure fluctuations disclosed by the spatial cross-correlations, the numerical results showed qualitatively good agreement with experimental data. Proper orthogonal decomposition was employed to the spatial distributions of pressure fluctuations in order to find the first and second modes of fluctuations. The first mode of pressure fluctuations showed that the fluctuating characteristics of pressure were related to the behaviors of vortical structures. The velocity fluctuations were conditionally averaged to make clear that the coherent structures were responsible for the pressure fluctuations in moonpool.

  • The decomposition behaviors of gaseous cyanides in non-thermal plasma-catalyst hybrid reactor have been investigated with the variation of discharge power, influent concentration of cyanide, humidity of air carrier and packed materials in the reactor. Destruction of cyanides by plasma only process was very difficult compared to that of trichloroethylene. But the destruction efficiencies of cyanides were dramatically improved through packing alumina or Pt/alumina bead in the plasma discharge region. From the results, it could be assumed that thermal catalytic effect is involved simultaneously with plasma in the reaction of cyanides destruction on the alumina or Pt/alumina packed plasma reactor.

  • In this work, the activated carbons (ACs) with high micropores were synthesized from the polystyrene (PS) with KOH as activating agent. And the influence of activation temperature on porosity of the ACs studied was investigated. The porous structures of ACs were characterized by nitrogen adsorption at 77K using BET and D-R equations, and MP and BJH methods. The weight loss behaviors of the samples impregnated with KOH were also monitored using thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). As a result, it was found that the samples could be successfully converted into ACs with well-developed micropores. From the results of pore size analysis, it was confirmed that elevated activation temperature does lead to the formation and deepening of microstructures without significant change in mesostructures. A thermogravimetric study showed that KOH could suppress the thermal decomposition of the sample, resulting in the increase of carbon yields.

  • In our previous research, we proposed a tag emotion-based item recommendation scheme. The ternary associations among users, items, and tags are described as a three-order tensor in order to capture the emotions in tags. The candidates for recommendation are created based on the latent semantics derived by a high-order singular value decomposition technique (HOSVD). However, the tensor is very sparse because the number of tagged items is smaller than the amount of all items. The previous research do not consider the previous behaviors of users and items. To mitigate the problems, in this paper, the item-based collaborative filtering scheme is used to build an extended data. We also apply the probabilistic ranking algorithm considering the user and item profiles to improve the recommendation performance. The proposed method is evaluated based on Movielens dataset, and the results show that our approach improves the performance compared to other methods.

  • SDL has been standardized to specify behavioral aspects of communication systems based on the formal description technique, and it is powerful and user friendly in the sense of supporting human communication and understanding, formal analysis andcomparison of behaviors, alternative implementations and design optimization, and its structural decomposition. However, SDL is not sufficient for an efficient handing of entrire system descriptions because the communication systems are generally very complex, and composed from the various interactions among sub-systems. Also, it is very difficult to explicitly verify dynamic views such as liveness and reachability. it leads the demands on analysis scheme to verify dynamic behaviros of specified systems. This paper presents modeling concepts of Petri Nets from SDL and transformation rules to Numerical Petri Nets to provide efficient technqiques for verification of dynamic behaviors, and proposes the reachability garaph that is able to trace all reachable states of a modeled system and reduce an information loss on the reachability tree.

  • The objective of this study is the development of carbon recycle technology which converts $CO_2$ captured from flue gas to CO or carbon and reuse in industrial fields. Since $CO_2$ is very stable and difficult to decompose, metal oxide was used as an activation agent for the decomposition of $CO_2$ at low temperature. Metal oxides which convert $CO_2$ to CO or carbon at $500^{\circ}C$ were prepared using Zn-ferrite by the solid state reaction and hydrothermal synthesis. The behaviors of $CO_2$ decomposition were studied using temperature programmed reduction/oxidation (TPR/TPO) and thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA). Zn-ferrite containing 5 wt% ZnO showed the largest reduction and oxidation. Reduction by $H_2$ was 26.53 wt%, oxidation by $CO_2$ was 25.73 wt% and 96.98% of adsorbed $CO_2$ was decomposed to $CO_2$ and carbon with excellent oxidation-reduction behaviors.
