In this paper, we analyses heart beat data to identify subjects stress state (binary) using heart rate variability (HRV) features extracted from heart beat data of the subjects and implement supervised machine learning techniques to create the mental stress classifier. There are four steps need to be done: data acquisition, data processing (HRV analysis), features selection, and machine learning, before doing performance measurement. There are 56 features generated from the HRV Analysis module with several of them are selected (using own algorithm) after computing the Pearson Correlation Matrix (p-values). The results of the list of selected features compared with all features data are compared by its model error after training using several machine learning techniques: support vector machine, decision tree, and discriminant analysis. SVM model and decision tree model with using selected features shows close results compared to using all recording by only 1% difference. Meanwhile, the discriminant analysis differs about 5%. All the machine learning method used in this works have 90% maximum average accuracy.
The task of classification permeates all walks of life, from business and economics to science and public policy. In this context, nonlinear techniques from artificial intelligence have often proven to be more effective than the methods of classical statistics. The objective of knowledge discovery and data mining is to support decision making through the effective use of information. The automated approach to knowledge discovery is especially useful when dealing with large data sets or complex relationships. For many applications, automated software may find subtle patterns which escape the notice of manual analysis, or whose complexity exceeds the cognitive capabilities of humans. This paper explores the utility of a collaborative learning approach involving integrated models in the preprocessing and postprocessing stages. For instance, a genetic algorithm effects feature-weight optimization in a preprocessing module. Moreover, an inductive tree, artificial neural network (ANN), and k-nearest neighbor (kNN) techniques serve as postprocessing modules. More specifically, the postprocessors act as second0order classifiers which determine the best first-order classifier on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the second-order models, a voting scheme is investigated as a simple, but efficient, postprocessing model. The first-order models consist of statistical and machine learning models such as logistic regression (logit), multivariate discriminant analysis (MDA), ANN, and kNN. The genetic algorithm, inductive decision tree, and voting scheme act as kernel modules for collaborative learning. These ideas are explored against the background of a practical application relating to financial fraud management which exemplifies a binary classification problem.
We have sent the 1000 hair samples to USA and received the results from USA because the programs for the interpretation of Tissue Mineral Analysis (TMA) result is not opened yet in Korea. Therefore, the study will analyze the relationship between the hair for Korean and minerals and make a classification system. To achieve the goal, first of all, we coded the results of patients and classified the analyzed results which are the interrelationship between the minerals and dietary situation and the heavy metals and diseases through the statistical methods. Finally we classified 8 metabolic type using decision tree classifier.

In this paper, we present a two-phase activity recognition system using smartphone's accelerometers. To consider the unique temporal pattern of accelerometer data for each activity, our system executes the decision-tree(DT) learning in the first phase, and then, in the second phase, executes the hidden Markov model(HMM) learning based on the sequences of classification results of the first phase classifier. Moreover, to build a robust recognizer for each activity, we trained our system using a large amount of data collected from different users, different positions and orientations of smartphone. Through experiments using 6720 examples collected for 6 different indoor activities, our system showed high performance based on its novel design.

In this paper, we propose a multi-label classification method in which multi-label classification estimation techniques are applied to resolving location prediction problem. Most of previous studies related to location prediction have focused on the use of single-label classification by using contextual information such as user's movement paths, demographic information, etc. However, in this paper, we focused on the case where users are free to visit multiple locations, forcing decision-makers to use multi-labeled dataset. By using 2373 contextual dataset which was compiled from college students, we have obtained the best results with classifiers such as bagging, random subspace, and decision tree with the multi-label classification estimation methods like binary relevance(BR), binary pairwise classification (PW).
This paper presents a hybrid model solution for user motion recognition. The use of a single classifier in motion recognition models does not guarantee a high recognition rate. To enhance the motion recognition rate, a hybrid model consisting of decision trees and artificial neural networks is proposed. We define six user motions commonly performed in an indoor environment. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed model, we conduct a real field test with ten subjects (five males and five females). Experimental results show that the proposed model provides a more accurate recognition rate compared to that of other single classifiers.

Background: Lung cancer remains one of the most common cancers in the world, both in terms of new cases (about 13% of total per year) and deaths (nearly one cancer death in five), because of the high case fatality. Errors in lung cancer type or malignant growth determination lead to degraded treatment efficacy, because anticancer strategy depends on tumor morphology. Materials and Methods: We have made an attempt to evaluate effectiveness of machine learning algorithms in the task of lung cancer classification based on gene expression levels. We processed four publicly available data sets. The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute data set contains 203 samples and the task was to classify four cancer types and sound tissue samples. With the University of Michigan data set of 96 samples, the task was to execute a binary classification of adenocarcinoma and non-neoplastic tissues. The University of Toronto data set contains 39 samples and the task was to detect recurrence, while with the Brigham and Women's Hospital data set of 181 samples it was to make a binary classification of malignant pleural mesothelioma and adenocarcinoma. We used the k-nearest neighbor algorithm (k=1, k=5, k=10), naive Bayes classifier with assumption of both a normal distribution of attributes and a distribution through histograms, support vector machine and C4.5 decision tree. Effectiveness of machine learning algorithms was evaluated with the Matthews correlation coefficient. Results: The support vector machine method showed best results among data sets from the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital. All algorithms with the exception of the C4.5 decision tree showed maximum potential effectiveness in the University of Michigan data set. However, the C4.5 decision tree showed best results for the University of Toronto data set. Conclusions: Machine learning algorithms can be used for lung cancer morphology classification and similar tasks based on gene expression level evaluation.

The multitree pattern recognition algorithm proposed by [1] and [2] is modified in order to improve its performance. The basic idea of the multitree pattern classification algorithm is that the binary dceision tree used to classify an unknow pattern is constructed for each feature and that at each stage, classification rule decides whether to classify the unknown pattern or to extract the feature value according to the feature ordet. So the feature ordering needed in the calssification procedure is simple and the number of features used in the classification procedure is small compared with other classification algorithms. Thus the algorithm can be easily applied to real pattern recognition problems even when the number of features and that of the classes are very large. In this paper, the wighting factor assignment scheme in the decision procedure is modified and various classification rules are proposed by means of the weighting factor. And the branch and bound method is applied to feature subset selection and feature ordering. Several experimental results show that the performance of the multitree pattern classification algorithm is improved by the proposed scheme.
This paper introduces an algorithm that compensates for missing values after converting them into a format that can represent the probability for incomplete data including missing values in training data. In the previous method using this data conversion, incomplete data was processed by allocating missing values with an equal probability that missing variables can have. This method applied to many problems and obtained good results, but it was pointed out that there is a loss of information in that all information remaining in the missing variable is ignored and a new value is assigned. On the other hand, in the new proposed method, only complete information not including missing values is input into the well-known classification algorithm (C4.5), and the decision tree is constructed during learning. Then, the probability of the missing value is obtained from this decision tree and assigned as an estimated value of the missing variable. That is, some lost information is recovered using a lot of information that has not been lost from incomplete learning data.

As the damage caused by GPS jamming has been increased, researches for detecting and preventing GPS jamming is being actively studied. This paper deals with a GPS jamming detection method using multiple GPS receiving channels and three-types machine learning techniques. Proposed multiple GPS channels consist of commercial GPS receiver with no anti-jamming function, receiver with just anti-noise jamming function and receiver with anti-noise and anti-spoofing jamming function. This system enables user to identify the characteristics of the jamming signals by comparing the coordinates received at each receiver. In this paper, The five types of jamming signals with different signal characteristics were entered to the system and three kinds of machine learning methods(AB: Adaptive Boosting, SVM: Support Vector Machine, DT: Decision Tree) were applied to perform jamming detection test. The results showed that the DT technique has the best performance with a detection rate of 96.9% when the single machine learning technique was applied. And it is confirmed that DT technique is more effective for GPS jamming detection than the binary classifier techniques because it has low ambiguity and simple hardware. It was also confirmed that SVM could be used only if additional solutions to ambiguity problem are applied.
