  • PMLSM(Permanent Magnet linear Synchronous Motor) has widely applied to industrial automations, machine tools and semiconductor equipments due to the merit on the reduction of noise, vibration and the superior dynamic characteristics in comparison to the conventional method, which uses mechanical transfer equipments. Especially, in the case of applying to Z-axis operation structure, control system needs the method of an initial angle setting and the improvement of up/down operation characteristics. This paper proposes an initial angle setting algorithm and a variable gain schedule using real speed and moving direction to improve up/down operation characteristics. The effectiveness of proposed algorithms Is demonstrated by comparing to a conventional gain system via 4-point absolute positions profile with each velocity, acceleration and deceleration.

  • The spray characteristics of DISI injector have a great role in gasoline engine efficiency and emission. Thus, many researchers have studied to investigate the spray characteristics of swirl and slit injectors that are used in a DISI engine. In this study, we tried to provide spray parameters, which affect on the spray characteristics such as injection pressure, ambient pressure and ambient temperature. In addition, we calculated $t_{b}\;and\;t_{c}$ to investigate the break up mechanism of test injectors and obtained $C_{v}$ to evaluate the spray characteristics. As the ambient pressure increases in case of slit injector, $C_{v}$ decreases. The laser-induced exciplex fluorescence (LIEF) technique, which is based on spectrally resolved two-color fluorescent emissions, has applied to measure the liquid and vapor phases for on evaporating spray simultaneously. The TMPD/naphthalene proposed by Melton is used as a dophant to detect exciplex signal. The temporal and spatial distribution of liquid and vapor phases during the mixture formation process was measured by this technique. In the LIEF technique, the vapor phase is detected by the monomer fluorescence while the liquid phase is tracked by the exciplex fluorescence. From this experiment, we found that the spray area of the vapor phase is increased with elapsed time after injection and the area of liquid is decreased when the ambient pressure is 0.1MPa. However, the area tends to increase until the end of injection when the ambient pressure is 1.0MPa.

  • The purpose of the present study was to examine gaze effects on spatial and kinematic characteristics during a pointing task. Subjects were asked to watch and point to an aimed target (2 mm in diameter) displayed on a vertically mounted board. Four gaze conditions were developed as combinations of "seeing-aiming" in terms of the eye movements: Focal-Focal (F-F), Focal-Fixing (F-X), Fixing-Focal (X-F), and Fixing-Fixing (X-X). Both the home target and an aimed target were presented for 1 second and then were disappeared in F-F and X-F. In X-F and X-X, only an aimed target disappeared after 1 second. Subjects were asked to point (with index finger tip) to an aimed target accurately as soon as the aimed target was removed. A significant main effect of gaze was found (p<.01) for normalized movement time. Peripheral retina targets had significantly larger absolute error compared to central retina targets on the x (medio-lateral) and z (superior-inferior) axes (p<.01). A significant undershooting to peripheral retina targets on the x axis was found (p<.01). F-F and X-F had larger peak velocities compared to F-X and X-X (p<.01). F-F and X-F were characterized by more time spent in the deceleration phase compared to F-X and X-X (p<.01). The present study demonstrates that central vision utilizes a form of on-line visual processing to reach to an object, and thus increases spatial accuracy. However, peripheral vision utilizes a relatively off-line visual processing with a dependency on proprioceptive information.

  • The highway weaving section is a point where there is a conflict caused by entry and exit vehicles. In order to minimize the impact on the main line, an accumulation line should be installed. The design speed of the collecting part is 50 km/h, but the actual driver does not have proper deceleration according to the design speed. In this study, considering the driving behaviors, the design specification, and the driver 's viewing angle, the appropriate separation distance for safe entry and exit of collecting, connecting, and collecting roads was examined. As a result of the analysis, it is found that a distance of 60m is required from the point where the merging starts. The results of this study are expected to contribute to the improvement of driver safety due to the conflict between entry and exit vehicles when applied to the weaving section where collecting roads are installed.

  • This study analyzed kinematic variables about the cross step, the delivery and the release for women's javelin athletics recorded over 50m in the 2004 Busan International Athletics Competition. It was used the Kwon3D Motion Analysis Package Ver. 3.1 Program(Kwon, 2000) for analysing the kinematic variables about the distance, the velocity, and the angle, then we had the results as follows; 1 In the Cross step phase, the COG velocity was low because their step length was short. To keep the CM velocity from the approach to the last cross over step contact, the athletes have to keep the longer step length within about 130% of the athletics' height. 2. In the Delivery phase, the athletics' COG height was gradually lower, and the deceleration of the COG was going up. As the same in the cross step, Therefore the athletes have to increase the step length within about 100% of their height, in order to increasing the COG velocity. And it was shown they have to make small angle of the elbow as possible from the right foot contact to the left foot contact in order to being the big acceleration of the upperarm at the release phase. 3. In the release phase, it was shown to being low position of the release point as the COG was low and then the release velocity of the upperarm was low. Specially when the shoulder lean lateral angle is big at the release phase, it was shown they have a excessive release angle. And, when it was shown the high rotation angle of the shoulder, the shoulder was opened forward bigger than the trunk was opened forward. So the transmission of velocity from the proximal segments was a fast change.

  • Sections under the influence of merging in an uninterrupted facility create irregular interaction between vehicles, such as lane change, speed acceleration and deceleration because of the merging of ramp traffic flows which have traffic characteristics different from those of the main line. This causes a confused traffic flow phenomenon(turbulence), which is considered an unstable traffic characteristic between various continuous points in consideration of v conditions. In this study, in merge influence sections, detectors by lane-point were installed to create time and space-series -traffic data. The least significant difference(LSD), as the criteria for discriminating a significant speed change between points, was calculated to examine the turbulence. As a result, turbulence in merge influence section was found to change the zones of such occurrence and the seriousness levels according to traffic condition. Thus, the maximum merge influence section due to the turbulence was created in the traffic condition before congestion when traffic increases. According to characteristics of changes in speed, merge influence section was divided into upstream 100m$\sim$downstream 100m(a section of speed reduction), and downstream 100m$\sim$downstream 400m(a section of reduced speed maintenance and acceleration).

  • In the point of view of a train operator, the main concern with a train operation is not only to maintain a time schedule, but also to decrease the energy consumption as much as possible. Generally for a manual drive, a train conductor controls the train acceleration and deceleration by controlling the notches not to exceed the regulation velocity by considering the given maximum velocity profile for an operation route. For this case, the guideline for a conductor is needed to choose the proper notches by applying the notch optimization so as to drive at the regulation velocity and minimize energy consumption simultaneously. In this paper, the real-time notch optimization plan is suggested using a genetic algorithm that optimizes the notches for the remaining route in real time when the event occurs that track information or regulation velocity profile of the remaining route changes during train operation as well as a normal operation situation. An energy saving effect and the convergence behavior of the optimal solution obtained was analyzed in a genetic algorithm.

  • Cabin noise due to the electric powertrain of electrical vehicle may consists of motor noise caused by electrical mismatch and gear noise coming from reduction gearbox. These sound may be considered rather small noise compared to those of internal combustion engine, but without masking effect, the noise can be more annoying for customer. Thus, this paper demonstrates the characteristics of electrical vehicle powertrain noise, and the effect of passive damping material for the noise reduction. The typical motor noise can be affected by the motor torque. Also, it is demonstrated that the reduction gearbox may be a weak point for the noise path compared to the motor housing. With vehicle test, it is shown that the damping patch is more effective for noise reduction with deceleration condition than with acceleration condition.

  • In contrast to conventional electromagnetic motor, USM(Ultrasonic Motor), as piezoelectric ceramic applying ultrasonic mechanical vibration and as frictional-movement type motor, get rotational torque by elastic friction between stator and rotator, The USM, which is small motor without iron cores and coil as a simple structure, has little load weight, has character of high torque at low speed, and can apply a direct drive type without deceleration gear as low speed type. A response of USM from control input is satisfactory, and also generates much torque in low speed driving, and holding torque is much without supplying power. In this study, I designed and made Ultrasonic motor-digital multi controller(USM- DMC) using FPGA chip, A54SX72A made in Actel Corporation. By the minute, USM-DMC can control frequency, duty ratio, and phase difference of USM by llbit digital input from Pc. Therefore, when we use this controller, we can apply to typical parameter, frequency, phase difference, and voltage parameter, to control as well as we can do mixing control like phase-frequency, phase-voltage, frequency-voltage, frequency-phase-voltage, What is more, the strongest point is that it can trace frequency based on optimized frequency because we can input optimized resonant frequency while in motoring.

  • For a power grid that has a high wind penetration level, when wind speeds are continuously fluctuating, the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) operation of a variable-speed wind turbine (VSWT) causes the significant output power fluctuation of a VSWT, thereby significantly fluctuating the system frequency. In this paper, an improved power-smoothing scheme of a VSWT is presented that significantly mitigates the frequency fluctuation caused by varying wind speeds. The proposed scheme employs an additional control loop based on the frequency deviation that operates in combination with the MPPT control loop. To improve the power-smoothing capability of a VSWT in the over-frequency section (OFS), the control gain of the additional loop, which is set to be inversely proportional to the rotor speed, is proposed. In contrast, the control gain in the under-frequency section is set to be proportional to the rotor speed to improve the power-smoothing capability while avoiding over-deceleration of the rotor speed of a VSWT. The proposed scheme significantly improves the performance of the power-smoothing capability in the OFS, thereby smoothing the frequency fluctuation. The results clearly demonstrate that the proposed scheme significantly mitigates the frequency fluctuation by employing the different control gain for the OFS under various wind penetration scenarios.
