  • Thirteen decapod crustaceans of Dokdo Island were identified and classified based on samples collected around Dokdo Island from May 1999 to November 2004. Of the 13 species, 7 were unrecorded from Dokdo Island: Axiopsis princeps, Pagurus angustus, Pagurus japonicus, Pagurus nigrivittatus, Pagurus spina, Portunus trituberculatus, and Hemigrapsus penicillatus. Of these 7 species, Pagurus nigrivittatus and Pagurus spina were new to the Korean decapod fauna. However, P. spina was only reported as the type series from the Pacific coast of northern Japan. Its geographic range now extends to the East Sea. To date, 25 decapod crustaceans (1 caridean, 1 thalassinidean, 11 anomurans, and 12 brachyurans) have been reported from Dokdo Island.

  • Of 17 penaeid shrimps have been known from Korean waters, only five species reported from Jeju Island (Kim and Kim, 1988; Je et at., 2002). In September 2002, two interesting penaeids were collected from seas off Hamduck, Jeju Island. After the close examination, they were identified as Melicertus latisulcatus (Kishinouye, 1896) and Metapenaeopsis mogiensis mogiensis (Rathbun, 1902). (omitted)

  • Gaillardiellus orientalis (Odhner, 1925) has been reared in the laboratory, form hatching to the first young crab stage at $25^{\circ}C$. The four zoeal stages and one megalopal stage are described and illustrated in detail. Within the subfamily Actaeinae, the zoea of G. orientalis differs from the other known zoeae in the characteristics of the antenna and the telson.

  • The genus Discorsopagurus and two species belonging to this genus, Discorsopagurus maclaughlinae and Discorsopagurus tubicola, are herein first reported in Korean waters. Species belonging to Discorsopagurus are easily distinguished from other hermit crabs of the family Paguridae by their telsons that lack indentations and other characteristics such as straight abdomens, fused third and fourth abdominal tergites, and symmetrical uropods. Discorsopagurus maclaughlinae and D. tubicola were found to live in a tube made by a polychaete tubeworm. The two species differ in the shape of the posterior margin of the telson, the length of the pereopod, and the presence of setae on the antennal flagellum. Discorsopagurus tubicola is reported for the second time in the world. In this paper, there will be provided plates and descriptions of the two species.

  • Five scyllarine lobster species, belonging to the family Scyllaridae, are described from Korean waters: Chelarctus cultrifer (Ortmann, 1897), Crenarctus bicuspidatus (De Man, 1905), Galearctus kitanoviriosus (Harada, 1962), G. timidus (Holthuis, 1960), and Petrarctus brevicornis (Holthuis, 1946). Of these, three species, C. bicuspidatus, G. timidus, and P. brevicornis are new to Korean marine carcinological fauna. This report extends the known range of G. timidus to the southern coast of Korea from Taiwan in the East China Sea. Excluding C. bicuspidatus and G. kitanoviriosus, the other three species are relatively rare in Korean waters. They are described herein with color photographs, and a key to the Korean genera and species of Scyllarinae is also presented.

  • Two species of crabs, Homola orientalis Henderson, 1888 and Pseudomicippe nipponica (Sakai, 1938), are described and illustrated for the first time in Korea. Homola orientalis was collected at 30 m depth by trap from Busan, and P. nipponica was collected on the intertidal region in Seongsanpo, Jejudo Island. Homola orientalis is the first species of its family in the region. The family Homoldae is characterized by a linea homolica on the carapace and they carry camouflage in the form of sponges or cnidarians with subchelate of the fourth ambulatory legs. The Korean brachyuran fauna now comprises 223 species including the new records from this study.

  • The palaemonid shrimp Exopazaemon modestus inhabits the freshwater of the Indo-West Pacific, Siberia, Manchuira, Korea, China, Taiwan (Holthuis, 1980) and is abundant in the fresh water areas of southwest of Korea. Palaemonid shrimps are adapted to a variety of habitats in freshwater, brackish and marine environments. They play important role in the ecosystem of fresh, brackish and marine waters, acting as predators feeding on algae, detritus, crustaceans and meiofauna (Bell and Coull, 1978) and in turn, as preys for fishes and other predators (Anderson, 1985). • Fourteen species of the family Penaeidae have been previously reported from the Korean waters (Kim, 1977: Cha et al., 2001). Recent collections from the coastal waters of Korea revealed the presence of two penaeid species, Metapenaeopsis lata Kubo, 1949 and Parapenaeopsis cultrirostris Alcock, 1906. These two species have been reported from Japan, East China Sea and Sou China Sea, and the Indo-West Pacific low South China Sea. We present brief notes of these species as two new members of the Korean fauna. (omitted)

  • The snapping shrimp Alpheus bisincisus is redescribed on the basis of nine specimens collected in southern Korea. This species is readily distinguished from the other reported species of the Edwardsii group of Alpheus from Korea (A. heeia, A. hoplocheles, A. japonicus, A. lobidens, A. malabaricus, A. pacificus, A. richardsoni, and A. sudara) by having the rostrum and rostral triangle on the carapace flattened dorsally and sharply demarked, and by the presence of overhanging orbitorostral grooves.
