Windborne debris is a major cause of structural damage during severe windstorms and hurricanes owing to its direct impact on building envelopes as well as to the 'chain reaction' failure mechanism it induces by interacting with wind pressure damage. Estimation of debris risk is an important component in evaluating wind damage risk to residential developments. A debris risk model developed by the authors enables one to analytically aggregate damage threats to a building from different types of debris originating from neighboring buildings. This model is extended herein to a general debris risk analysis methodology that is then incorporated into a vulnerability model accounting for the temporal evolution of the interaction between pressure damage and debris damage during storm passage. The current paper (Part I) introduces the debris risk analysis methodology, establishing the mathematical modeling framework. Stochastic models are proposed to estimate the probability distributions of debris trajectory parameters used in the method. It is shown that model statistics can be estimated from available information from wind-tunnel experiments and post-damage surveys. The incorporation of the methodology into vulnerability modeling is described in Part II.
Recently, a rivers' bridge that locate on among the mountains area is destroyed by debris accumulation and debris flow, because of frequent occurrence of typhoon and a localized torrential downpour. therefore a river make a part of dam's effect. Actually, this situation gives damages like inundation of a bridge upper stream area's. Generally, It the main cause of the occurrence route of the debris accumulation is that outbreaks of driftwood and debris flow because of landslide, that occurred by severe rain storm. Also, a lot of debris are occurred when big flood come up during long period at this time, this kind of debris accumulation remove to other place, in several, and specially, debris accumlation move to the place where the depth of water is deep and velocity is fast river center. According to these kind of fact, this research put in effect and analyze that movement characteristic's numerical simulations of debris accumulation at flood according to a domestic outside literature investigation, on-site monitoring survey and parameter scenario which comes out through the hydraulic modeling analysis.

The most part of the faculty drop a trouble and damage of machine equipment even if whatever cause they break out take place at local and trifling place and the factor dominating their trouble is due to wear debris occurred in the lubricated machine moving surface. This study has been car-ried out to identify morphology of wear debris on the lubricated machine moving system by means of computer image analysis. Namely the wear debris contained in lubricating oil extracted from movable machine equipment will be filtered through membrane filter(void diameter 0.45${\mu}m$) and will be analyzed with its data information such as 50% volume diameter aspect roundness and reflectivity. Morphological characteristic of wear debris is easily distinguished by four shape parameters it is necessary to divide small class of every 100 wear debris in total wear particles in order to distinguish morphological characteristic of wear debris more easily by computer image analysis. We are sure that operation condition diagnosis of the lubricated machine moving surfaces is possible by computer image analysis.
Annually, many parts of the Korea have been damaged from the localized heavy rain and/or typhoons which peak between June and September, which result in extensive financial and human loss. Especially, because the most area of Gangwon province is composed of the steep slope mountains, the damages by the debris flow or land-sliding are more frequent and the frequency has been increased. To analyze the characteristics and causes of these debris flow disasters, lots of study are recently being conducted through database of weather, hydrologic, soil etc using a GIS or remote sensing. In this study, we applied GIS method to analyze the risk of the debris flow area. With the statistical analysis and infinite slope stability model(SINMAP), the debris flow risk level of the mountain slope was generated. As a result, the GIS statistical analysis showed high correlation that former model of SINMAP in determining the debris flow risk area.
In Korea, there exist many mountains, and sudden storms occur during the summer season. When severe rainstorm events occur in steep slope topography, risk of debris flow is increased. Once debris flow occurs in urban area, it may cause casualties and physical damages due to rapid debris flow velocity along a steep slope. Accordingly, preventing method of sediment-related disaster for demage mitigation are essential. Recently, various studies on debris flow have been conducted. However, the prediction of the physical propagation of debris flow along the steep slope was not thoroughly investigated. Debris flow is characterized by various factors such as topography, properties of debris flow, amount of debris flow. In the study the numerical simulation was focused on the topographic factor. Fundamental analysis of the risk area was implemented with emphasis on the propagation length, thickness, and the development of maximum velocity. The proposed results and the methodology of estimating the structural vulnerability would be helpful in predicting the behavior and the risk assessment of debris flow in urban area. These results will be able to estimate the vulnerability of urban areas affected the most damage by debris flow.

A method and results of classification of 4 types metallic wear debris were presented by using their color features. The color image of wear debris was used (or the initial data, and the color properties of the debris were specified by HSI color model. Particle was characterized by a set of statistical features derived from the distribution of HSI color model components. The initial feature set was optimized by a principal component analysis, and multidimensional scaling procedure was used for the definition of classification plane. It was found that five features, which include mean values of H and S, median S, skewness of distribution of S and I, allow to distinguish copper based alloys, red and dark iron oxides and steel particles. In this work, a method of probabilistic decision-making of class label assignment was proposed, which was based on the analysis of debris-coordinates distribution in the classification plane. The obtained results demonstrated a good availability for the automated wear particle analysis.

The morphological analysis of wear debris can provide early a failure diagnosis in lubricated moving system. It can be effective to analyze operating conditions of oil-lubricated tribological system with shape characteristics of wear debris in a lubricant. But, in order to predict and recognize an operating condition of lubricated machine, it is needed to analyze and to identify shape characteristics of wear debris. Therefore, If the morphological characteristics of wear debris are recognized by computer image analysis using the neural network algorithm, it is possible to recognize operating condition of hydraulic driving members. In this study, wear debris in the lubricating oil are extracted by membrane filter (0.45 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$), and the quantitative values of shape parameters of wear debris are calculated by the digital image processing. This shape parameters are studied and identified by the artificial neural network algorithm. The result of study could be applied to prediction and to recognition of the operating condition of hydraulic driving members in lubricated machine systems.
A model for thermal interactions of debris/water with gas flow from within and below debris bed was presented for severe accident analysis in LWR. The consumption of steam, production of hydrogen in the debris bed, generation of gases from below debris bed and generation of chemical heat are included in the conservation equations. The model has been incorporated in the MARCH code to estimate the gas production due to both metal/oxidation and hot debris/concrete interaction. The results indicate that the hydrogen source can potentially give a significant impact on the containment pressure transient and the conductive heat loss to concrete and the convective gas cooling in the debris bed have a small effect on the debris bed coolability. However, the reheating and melting of the debris particles could be delayed by the interaction of debris with concrete.
Most of the landslides induced by rainfall in summer rainy season appear in the type of debris flow. Debris flow gives a lot of economic losses and human casualties due to high moving velocity and volume of debris flow. In order to analyze movement and deposition characteristics of debris flow, numerical analysis using FLO-2D program was conducted with various viscosities and yield stresses. As a result of numerical analysis, velocity and runout distance of debris flow decreased as its viscosity increased due to resisting force between particles of debris flow. Consequently, flow depth of debris flow increased and impact force decreased. Yield stress of debris flow affected its initiation and deposition characteristics. As yield stress increased, runout distance of debris flow decreased and its impact force increased. Based on the results of numerical analysis, it was found that velocity of debris flow mainly depended on viscosity, while deposition characteristics (runout distance, deposition width, deposition area) of debris flow depended on both viscosity and yield stress.
In this paper, statistical approach is undertaken to investigate the classification of wear debris which is the key function of objective assessment of wear debris morphology. Wear tests are run to produce various kinds of wear debris. The images of wear debris from wear tests are captured with image acquisition equipment. By thresholding, two-dimensional binary images of wear debris are made and, then, morphological parameters are used to quantify the images of debris. Parametric and nonparametric discriminant method are employed to classify wear debris into predefined wear conditions. It is demonstrated that classification accuracy of parametric and nonparametric discriminant method is similar. The selected use of morphological parameters by stepwise discriminant analysis can generally improve the classification accuracy of parametric and nonparametric discriminant method.
