Overmodulation Characteristics of Carrier Based MVPWM for Eliminating the Leakage Currents in Three-Level Inverter (3-레벨 인버터의 누설전류 제거를 위한 캐리어 기반 MVPWM의 과변조 특성)

  • The overmodulation characteristics of a carrier-based medium vector pulse width modulation (CBMVPWM) are examined in this study. CBMVPWM can completely eliminate leakage currents in a three-phase, three-level inverter using only the switching states with the same common mode voltage even in an overmodulation operation. The analytic equations for the magnitude of the output voltage and the switching frequency are derived for overmodulation operation, and the effect of dead time on the leakage current is demonstrated. This study presents the operating principle of CBMVPWM, basic overmodulation features, and simulations and experiments for operating verification.

  • The shape and width of fuzzy membership function has an effect on performance of fuzzy controller. In this paper, fuzzy controller is proposed to improve the control performance of fuzzy controller. It has two fuzzy inference engine. The one is typical fuzzy inference engine, the other is proposed to infer optimal width of membership function in fuzzy controller from plant constant (K,T,L). To show the effectiveness of this fuzzy controller with double fuzzy inference engine, it is applied to plant (dead time + 1st order delay) with various plant constant.

In this paper, neuro-fuzzy controller is proposed to improve the control performance of fuzzy controller. It has membership function, that is adapt to plant constant by using trained neural network. This neural network has been trained with back propagation algorithm. To show the effectiveness of proposed neuro-fuzzy controller with adaptive membership function, it is applied to plant (dead time + 1st order) with various plant constant.

Improving the performance of a Medium Speed Diesel Engine Using Miller Cycle (Miller 사이클을 이용한 중형 디젤 기관 성능 개선)

  • Miller cycle was studied and analyzed by engine performance simulation to achieve very low fuel consumption and to meet the IMO NOx regulation on a medium speed diesel engine. Based on the performance simulation results the intake valve closing time for HYUNDAI HiMSEN 6H21/32 engine was set at 0deg.ABDC(After Bottom Dead Center). Also, the simulation results indicated that significant NOx reduction could be achieved with low reduction of fuel consumption. The performance simulation investigated the effect of compression ratio and turbocharger on fuel consumption and NOx concentration in combination with Miller cycle. The results indicated a significant reduction of fuel consumption with keeping NOx concentration. The results of performance simulation were compared with measured data to verify simulation results. The comparison showed the maximum error was 2.34% in exhaust temperature. Also, the experimental result showed that improvement in BSFC(Brake Specific Fuel Consumption) was 5.8g/kwh with keeping NOx level similar to simulation result.

  • The width of fuzzy membership function and control rule has an effect on performance of the fuzzy controller for electric equipment systems. In this paper, the neuro-fuzzy controller is proposed to im¬prove the performance of fuzzy controller. It has the width of membership function, that is adapted to the electrical parameter using multi-layer neural network, it is applied to first order electric power system with dead time and various plant constant.   • This paper presents a simple approach for improving the performance of back-electromotive force (back-EMF)-estimation-based sensorless drives for surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSM). Similar to conventional approaches, a hypothetical d-q synchronous reference frame model of SPMSM is employed in the proposed approach to estimate the back-EMFs. This approach also employs a dual phase locked loop structure to compensate for the effect of the dead time and parameter uncertainty of the inverter on the estimated back-EMFs. The proposed algorithm is validated by conducting experiments.

  • Accurate estimation of motor parameters is required in some motor control applications. For example, the value of stator resistance is required for stator flux-oriented control mostly used in doubly fed induction generator systems. Stator resistance is not a constant value and continuously changes due to the rise in temperature during motor operation. Estimation errors degrade the control performance. Hence, this study proposes a simple stator resistance estimation method. In this scheme, the differential components of voltage and current values are used to eliminate the dead-time effect, and Kalman filter algorithm is applied to reduce the error according to measurement noise. Simulation and experimental results obtained with a permanent magnet motor show the validity of the proposed algorithm.

Seismic response of substandard RC frame buildings in consideration of staircases

  • During the seismic performance assessment of existing buildings, staircases are generally not taken into account as structural members but as dead load. Staircases, as secondary structural members, not only serve for connecting successive floors but also provide considerable amount of strength and stiffness to the building which can modify its seismic behaviour considerably. In this parametric study, the influence of staircases on the seismic response of substandard RC frame buildings which differ in number of storey and span, presence of staircase and its position has been examined. Modal Analyses and bi-directional Non-Linear Time History Analyses (NLTHA) were conducted to compare several engineering demand parameters (EDPs) such as inter-storey drift ratio (ISDR), floor accelerations, modal properties, member shear forces and plastic hinge distribution. Additionally, short column effect, variation in shear forces of columns that are attached to the staircase slab, failure and deformation in staircase models have also been investigated. As the staircase was considered in the analytical model, a different damage pattern can be developed especially in the structural components close to staircase.

Vegetation Rehabilitation and Management Strategy of the fired Woodland in Chesuk-bong of Mt. Chiri (지리산(智異山) 제석봉(帝釋峰) 산화적지(山火跡地)의 식생회복(植生回復) 및 관리방안(管理方案))

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of rehabilitation measures on the fired woodland of Chesuk-bong in Mt. Chiri through the vegetation structure and comparison of growth pattern between natural seedlings and transplanted Abies koreana seedlings. It was also discussed the rate of standing and fallen trees of dead conifers in the management strategy for vegetation regeneration and protection of sub-alpine area. In this fired woodland, shrub layers consisting of Weigela subsessilis, Sambucus williamsii var. coreana, Rhododendron schlippenbachii, R. mucronulatum, Tripterygium regelii, and etc. were gradually expanded, and tree species such as Betula ermani, Sorbus commixta, Acer pseudosieboldianum, and Malus baccata var. mandshurica were also regenerated. The growth of height and crown width of Abies koreana seedlings transplanted for vegetation regeneration were a little lower than those of natural seedlings. The seedlings of A. koreana transplanted in this fired woodland grew about 50.6% normally, but the others had multi-branched or growth stopped by death of terminal shoot. Because the number of dead conifers by fire tend to be gradually increased as time passed, it can occurs to the soil erosion and landslide by weakness of the cohesion and resistance of soil. Therefore, it is consider that rehabilitation measures projects of the fired woodland in subalpine area may be more prevention a natural disaster like soil erosion, flood and landslide.

A Study on Temperature Dependence of Tunneling Magnetoresistance on Plasma Oxidation Time and Annealing Temperature (플라즈마 산화시간과 열처리 조건에 따른 터널링 자기저항비의 온도의존특성에 관한 연구)

  • We have studied to understand the barrier and interface qualities and structural changes through measuring temperature dependent spin-polarization as functions of plasma oxidation time and annealing time. Magnetic tunnel junctions consisting of SiO2$_2$/Ta 5/CoFe 17/IrMn 7.5/CoFe 5/Al 1.6-Ox/CoFe 5/Ta 5 (numbers in nm) were deposited and annealed when necessary. A 30 s,40 s oxidized sample showed the lowest spin-polarization values. It is presumed that tunneling electrons were depolarized and scattered by residual paramagnetic Al due to under-oxidation. On the contrary, a 60s, 70 s oxidized sample might have experienced over-oxidation, where partially oxidized magnetic dead layer was formed on top of the bottom CoFe electrode. The magnetic dead layer is known to increase the probability of spin-flip scattering. Therefore it showed a higher temperature dependence than that of the optimum sample (50 s oxidation). temperature dependence of 450 K annealed samples was improved when the as-deposited one compared. But the sample underwent 475 K and 500 K annealing exhibits inferior temperature dependence of spin-polarization, indicating that the over-annealed sample became microstucturally degraded.
