In this paper, a unified regenerative inverter and control algorithm are proposed in order to perform regenerative action and active power filter action. While the regenerative mode of traction, it works as regenerative inverter to reduce a excessive power of DC bus line and the powering mode of the traction, it works as active power filter to compensate ac current distortion, power factor, and voltage unbalance. In the paper, a regeneration inverter used PWM DC/AC inverter algorithm. And an active power filter used p-q theory. We are carrying out a mode analysis of DC traction system similar to actual system with MG-set and experimenting with prototype model. Through the simulation and experiment, we were proving the regeneration inverter operation which suggested in this paper.

This paper presents to verify the selective grounding fault protective relaying technique for the ungrounded DC traction power supply system. This system selectively blocks fault section when grounding fault occurred. In order to perform this verification, field test facilities have been installed on Oesam substation and Worldcup-Stadium substation, and field test process has been suggested. Also, selective grounding fault protective relaying components and rail voltage reduction device have been tested with the various trial examinations. In order to compare and evaluate performance of the selective grounding fault protective relaying function, field test system was modeled and the system fault simulation results were compared and evaluated with the field test result. Performance of selective grounding fault protective relaying function was evaluated with the above-mentioned process, and the fact that the system recognizes fault section irrespective of insulation between rail and ground and fault resistance from grounding fault.

Nowadays traction motors in the urban rail transit vehicle are controlled by VVVF inverter and have capability of regenerative braking. The algorithms to deal with the regenerating vehicle in simulation for the DC traction power supply is introduced in this paper. Substations have to be separated from the system to represent reverse biased rectifiers in substations. The model of the trains in regenerative braking has to be changed from the ideal current source to the constant voltage source since the train input voltage has to be controlled below the certain train maximum voltage. Some mismatches are unevitable because the constraint of the regenerated power can not be imposed with the constant voltage source. The mismatches represent the unused regenerated power. A computer program is developed to verify the validity of the algorithm. The test run result shows the program behaves as it is expected and proves the algorithm's validity.
This paper introduces the combined test results of the traction system for KHST(Korean High Speed Train: hereafter refer to KHST). The main purpose of this combined test is to verify the performance of the traction system that is designed to operate up to maximum 350km/h speed. Combined test system consists of a traction transformer, two AC-DC PWM converters, a PWM Inverter, two traction motors and flywheel system. Flywheel system represents equivalent model of the train inertia. Also traction control system and MASCON Interfaces are included. Various kinds of experiments are performed to prove total traction system performance and detail waveforms are described

This paper proposed a regeneration inverter system, which can regenerate the excessive power form dc bus line to ac source for traction system. The proposed regeneration inverter system for dc traction can reduce harmonics which are include to ac current source. The regenerative inverter is operated as two modes. As a regeneration inverter mode, it can recycle regenerative energy caused by decelerating tractions and as an active power filter mode, it can compensate for harmonic distortion produced by the rectifier substation. In the paper, a regeneration inverter used PWM DC/AC converter algorithm. And an active power filter used p-q theory. The simulation was composed as a prototype model[3kW]. Simulation results show that two algorithm can be used to real model[100kW]. Finally, the inverter was successfully operated as regeneration mode.
DC traction system generates leakage current because running rails are used in return circuit. And it is very important to estimate the leakage current to the train operation situation. Therefore this paper presents dynamic simulation technique that is very similar to the real operation situation using TPS and PSCAD/EMTDC. For this we model DC traction system included in DC substation, variable feeding circuit model and variable train model. And we extract train location and power using TPS program and use these data for dynamic simulation. Finally we can estimate leakage current to the various operation condition using dynamic simulation.
This paper proposes a regeneration inverter system, which can regenerate the excessive power form the DC bus line to the AC source for traction systems. The proposed regeneration inverter system for DC traction can reduce harmonics which is a characteristic of the AC current source. The simulation was composed as a prototype model[3.7kW]. Finally, it is shown that the inverter can successfully operate in regeneration mode.
In DC traction systems, a part of feedback current returning through rails becomes leakage current, illumination on a metal laid underground results from the leakage current to ground. To prevent the leakage current on rails, feedback rails almost have insulated with the ground. Insulation between rails and the ground causes that the earth method changes a isolated method in DC traction systems. the rail potential rise results in the isolated method. the rail potential rise causes an electric shock when a person touches the ground and rolling stock. To decrease the rail potential rise and leakage current, there are methods for reducing the feedback resistance and current of rails, increasing the leakage resistance, decreasing the distance between substations. But it are necessary to forecast and analyze the rail potential and amplitude of leakage current. In this paper, we modeled DC traction systems and feedback circuit to simulate the rail potential and amplitude of leakage current using PSCAD/EMTDC that is power analysis program, forecasted the rail potential and amplitude of leakage current about changing various parameters in the electric circuit. By using the simulation model, we easily will forecast the rail potential and amplitude of leakage current in case of a level of basic design and maintenance in electric railway systems, valuably use basic data in case of system selection.
This paper details methods used to verify the adquacy of a dc traction power supply for design in Seoul matropolitain subway Line-6 system. Examples of the approach are given for a major subway presently under construction. The performance of trains operating at maximum system design capacity is modelled using a train simulation program. Using a dc network analyser program, the maximum train operating timetable, and a model of the ac and dc electrical suppy system, the electrical performance of the entire system can be modelled over a 24-hour period. The results of this analysis are used to determime: train voltage at a level sufficient to ensure train schedules: adequacy of traction transformers, rectifier, and switchgear ratings; sizes of the overhead contact systern conductors, and ac and de feeder cables: and power and energy demands at the utility company's supply points for inital and final timetable operations.
Overhead line voltage of DC railway traction substations has rising or falling characteristics depending on the acceleration and regenerative braking of the subway train loads. The suppression of this irregular fluctuation of the line voltage gives rise to improved energy efficiency of both the railway substation and the trains. This paper presents parameter estimation schemes using the RC circuit model for an overhead line voltage at a 1500V DC electric railway traction substation. A linear artificial neural network with a back-propagation learning algorithm was trained using the measurement data for an overhead line voltage and four feeder currents. The least square estimation method was configured to implement batch processing of these measurement data. These estimation results have been presented and performance analysis has been achieved through raw data simulation.
