Mungbean(Vigna radiata (L.) R. Wilczek) is one of legume cultivated in south and east Asia. It well cultivated in high temperature and drought condition. In order to establish pure line for genomic studies, the agronomical characteristics of Korean mungbean landraces were evaluated. A total of 324 acessions derived from National Agrobiodiversity Center were selfed two times in 2021 nersery. Tree times of selfed from 324 accessions were characterized. The color of seed coat was divided into three groups: green, yellow and brown. Among them green color was the most common with 91.7%. Flower colors were divided into four groups: yellow, purplish yellow, greenish yellow and purplish green. Among them purplish yellow color had the highest with 77.8%. Out of 324 resources, only 4 showed compound leaves, and all resources had a heart-shaped leaf. The days to first flowering was 31 to 78 days. About 63% of the accessions bloomed 35 to 50 days after sowing. 324 Korean landraces are expected to be used as a population of the Korean mungbean core collection and serve as a basis for genomic breeding materials for mungbean.
In this study, kim (dried laver) bugak ("KB"), Aster yomena bugak ("SB"), and namul (vegetables)-kim bugak (combination of Aster yomena and kim) ("NB") were prepared and their quality characteristics were investigated. NB was made by slicing Aster yomena, seasoning it with perilla seeds, attaching it to kim and applying glutinous rice paste, followed by freeze-drying. SB had a higher oil absorption rate than KB, reflecting the high oil absorption rate of namul (here, Aster yomena). DPPH radical scavenging activity was highest for SB; whereas, NB had higher DPPH radical scavenging activity than KB, indicative of the higher antioxidant capacity of namul, as compared to kim. With longer storage period, moisture content tended to be increased, while maximum load, yield stress and hardness tended to be decreased. Overall preference was in the order of NB>KB>SB, without statistical significance. Acid value and peroxide value of NB, stored at $25^{\circ}C$ for 40 days, tended to be increased gradually but did not meet the criteria for rancidity. Therefore, NB could be stored at $<25^{\circ}C$ for > 40 days. Furthermore, it would be possible to make functional bugak using a variety of namul, as well as Aster yomena.

The flower buds of Syzygium aromaticum (clove) have been used as traditional medicine for the treatment of male sexual disorders in Asian countries. Recently, there are some reports about the effects of the clove on reproductive activities in mammals. Therefore, its effect on testicular function was examined in male golden hamsters whose reproductive activity is inhibited by photoperiod such as winter climate. The male animals were given by daily oral administrations (56 consecutive days) in three doses (4 mg, 20 mg, and 100 mg/kg BW) of the alcoholic extract of the clove. Generally lower dose (4 mg) of the extract continued to keep the reproductive activities of testes. The both middle and high doses (20 mg and 100 mg) of the extract completely inhibited the testicular activity in some animals. Taken together, these results suggest a possible biphasic action of alcoholic extract of Syzygium aromaticum flower bud on testicular function.
In Korea, Brassica species planted in summer remain in rosette and do not flower. Seed production of vernalized rape seedlings grown in summer was evaluated to establish method of generation shortening and genetically pure seed production without isolation of seed fields. When vernalized rape seedlings of different maturity groups were transplanted in summer, all plants bolted and flowered, and average days from sowing to bolting and flowering was 37 and 58. respectively. It took 85days for early maturity group, 88 days for medium maturity group, and 108 days for late maturity group to mature. Seed yield of vernalized plants grown in summer was 8.8 gr per plant and 53kg per l0a which was 23% of seed yield of rape planted in autumn. However, enough seeds were produced to test oil composition and cake and to plant for a next generation. If seedlings are raised, they can be transplanted in more than 1, 000 times of original seed field, indicating that genetically pure seed can be produced without caging seed fields with nets and isolation of seed fields since other Brassica species do not flower in summer.
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of nutrient solution concentration, irrigation frequency on growth, flowering, and cut flower longevity of Dendranthema grandiflorum (Ramat.) Kitamura 'Shuhouno-chikara' hydroponically grown in perlite media. Not only stem length but also mineral contents of each plant organ in nutrient solution culture were much higher than those in soil culture. 1/2S of nutrient solution was good at early stage, but 1S of nutrient solution was better as chrysanthemum growth progressed. Among different concentrations of nutrient solution, mineral contents of each plant part showed no significant difference. 1S treatment of nutrient solution increased the vase life by 3 days than 2S treatment. The growth and mineral contents of each plant organ were great in plants irrigated 8 times a day, because of high moisture contents of medium and high water availability, followed by more frequent nutrient replenishment near roots. There was no correlation between nutrient solution concentration and vase life of cut flower grown in nutrient solution culture. Cut flowers irrigated twice per day had the longer vase life than other treatments (4, 8 times).

This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of the automatic control of night temperature and day length on the flower bud initiation growth responses and yield of strawberries. Flower bud initiation was observed only 14 days after treatment in plants forced with automatic system but not in plants forced with traditional methods, and flower bud development was further progressed by an automatic system. In genernal, the crown diameter of runner plants derived from strawberries grown with the automatic system was smaller than those from the plants grown under hand-operated system and this tendency was clear in plants placed at middle and low position during forcing. The rate of transpiration was higher in plants treated with hand operated method but the content of chlorophyll was lower than those treated with the automatic system. Results indicated that automatic system has an advantage in stimulation of flower bud initiation and improving the quility of runner plants.

A new spray rose cultivar 'Glory Purple' was bred from the cross between a pink spray cultivar 'Macarena' and a pink spray cultivar 'Million Pink' at the National Institute of Horticulture & Herbal Science. The cross was made in 2004 and a candidate genotype which named as 'Glory Purple' was selected in 2009 after three years investigation for agronomical characters from 2007 to 2009. 'Glory Purple', a purple colored spray cultivar, has vigorous growth and has powdery mildew resistance. The major characteristics of this cultivar are high yield and long stem with relatively large flower size with $157stems/m^2/year$ in yield, 63.5 cm in mean length of cut flower, 6.8 cm in mean flower diameter, 25.78 in mean petal number, and 10.2 days in mean vase life. This cultivar is suitable for propagation by both cutting and grafting methods. The consumer's preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of the control cultivars, 'Pinky and Charming'.

A new standard rose cultivar 'Noble Red' was bred by the cross between the pink standard cultivar 'Silba 87' and the red standard cultivar 'Bravo' at the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science. The cross was made in 1999 and 'Noble Red' was finally selected in 2003 after investigating the characteristics such as flower Color, Fragrance, stem length, stem diameter, weight, and number of leaves for three years from 2001 to 2003. 'Noble Red', a red standard cultivar grows vigorously and has good flower shape. The major characteristics of this cultivar are $125stems/m^2/year$ in yield, 71.9 cm in length of cut flower, 6.0cm in flower diameter, 30.8 in petal number, and 9.2 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer's preference of this cultivar is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, 'Rote Rose'.
We investigated the variations of the flowering response to daylength in Perilla crop (var. frutescens). Seventeen accessions of Perilla crop and one accession of weedy type of var. crispa from China, Korea and Japan were cultivated under three daylength conditions, i.e., short-days, natural daylength and long-days. Most accessions of Perilla crop from China, Korea and Japan were divided into three types, early maturing type, intermediate maturing type and late maturing type by their natural flowering habit. In most of the accessions used, the flowering habit was significantly accelerated by short-day conditions and was delayed by long-day conditions. All the accessions of Perilla crops flowered within 57 days under the 10 hrs light treatment, whereas they did not flower at all even at 170 days after sowing under the 16 hrs light treatment. Thus, this finding suggested that there is a relationship between the types of flowering response to daylength and the geographical distribution which determines the planting season in traditional cultivation practices of Perilla crops. Positive correlation was observed between days to flowering and plant height or internode number in both the short-day and natural daylength conditions. Whereas, correlation was negative between days to flowering and inflorescence length or floret number in natural daylength condition, but it was positive in the short-day condition. Therefore, the daylength condition is considered as the most important environmental factor for flowering habit and morphological characters of Perilla crops. Flowering habit is considered as an important key character for the study of geographical differentiation of Perilla crop in East Asia.
Crimson clover, a legume crop, is a landscape crop and green manure crop that can be sowing in spring and autumn. Its red flower blooms in May, and serves various roles such as landscape composition, weeds suppressing, prevention of soil loss and nutrient on sloping land and supplying nitrogen and organic matter in soil. Thus, in order to utilize this crop in agriculture land, we evaluated the growth characteristics of crimson clover cultivated in four different soil textures; sand, sandy loam, loam, and clay loam. The nitrogen content of crimson clover was $15.8g\;kg^{-1}$ and C/N ratio was 20.3. Its plant height was 42.5 cm in sandy loam and 49.5 cm in loamy, respectively, approximately 20 cm longer than the sand and clay loam. The crimson clover in sandy loam and loam bloomed about seven days earlier than those in sand and clay loam. Regarding number of flower per hill and flower length, there were no difference among the soil textures. Dry weight of crimson clover for sandy loam and loam was $2.5Mg\;ha^{-1}$ and $2.3Mg\;ha^{-1}$, respectively, $0.8{\sim}1.1Mg\;ha^{-1}$ higher than that of sand and sandy loam. Plant height and dry weight of crimson clover increased with delaying harvest time. Nitrogen contribution in loam and clay loam was $51.3kg\;ha^{-1}$ and $53.5kg\;ha^{-1}$, respectively. Therefore, in terms of flowering properties and dry weight, the proper soil texture for the growth and development of crimson clover was sandy loam and loam.
