This paper considers the effect of rainfall on non-point source (NPS) pollutant loads. The impact of runoff on the occurrence of NPS pollutants was found to be influenced by rainfall amount, rainfall intensity, and the number of antecedent dry days (ADD), both independently and in combination. The close correlation ($R^2$ = 0.9920) between rainfall and runoff amounts was demonstrated at the study site (a flower farm) over the period between January 2011 and December 2013. The relationships among pollutant levels, runoff, and rainfall was not satisfactory results except for the Biochemical Oxygen Demand ($BOD_5$). The correlation coefficients between $BOD_5$, and both runoff and rainfall, were greater than 0.92. However, the relationships of other pollutants, such as Suspended Solid (SS), Chemical Oxygen Demand ($COD_{Mn}$), Total Nitrogen (TN), and Total Phosphorus (TP), with runoff and rainfall had correlation coefficients of less than 0.70. The roles of rainfall was different from rainfall categories on the occurrence of runoff. Instantaneous rainfall intensity was a principle factor on the occurrence of runoff following light rainfall events (total ${\leq}30mm$). For rainfall of intermediate intensity (total precipitation 31-50 mm), the combined effect of both average rainfall intensity and ADD was found to influence runoff generation. We conclude that the control of NPS pollutants with the reflection of the climate change that makes the remarkable effect of amounts and forms on the rainfall and runoff.
In order to improve quality and to accelerate blooming time in potted Oncidium 'Aloha', foliar spray of $GA_3$, BA, zeatin, and kinetin were applied on June 1 and June 15. The plant growth regulators did affect the improvement of number of peduncles, pedicels and florets, and shortened flowering time. Especially, number of peduncles and of florets were remarkably increased by foliar application of BA solution. And the flower opening time were shortened 26 days by 100mg/L BA treatment compare with control.
In this study effects of isolation distance, transplanting time of maternal plants, and bagging of flower head with the gauze-cloth bag on the outcrossing of burley tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) were investigated. Also the effect of fertilizer level and control of the number of capsules per plant on seed production and quality were examined. A male sterile line. produced 0.3 to 3.8 capsules Per plant when it was Planted with normally flowering tobacco with the average outcrossing of 7.2 plants, ranging from 2 to 18 out of 20 plants. With the farther the isolation distance between maternal plants and pollen donor plant, the lower the outcrossing occurred. Outcrossing occurred even at the isolation distance of 312 m. When the maternal plants were transplanted 35 days after transplanting the pollen donor ones, the outcrossed plants were not decreased significantly. The bagging of the flower head with the gauze-cloth bas (#0.9∼ 1.0 mm) decreased the outcrossed plants significantly, but couldn't prevent the outcrossing completely. The seed amount per plant was higher in the highly fertilized cultivation. The number of seed capsules per plant affected significantly on seed yield and quality. When the seed capsules was controlled by 30 or 50 capsules per plant, the weight of 1,000 seeds and germination rate were higher than those with 70 or 90 capsules per plant. Key words : Nicotiana tabacum, outcrossing, bagging.

This study evaluated the impact of rain shelters made of plastic film on spring frost damage and fruit quality in Asian pears ('Niitaka') over two years. In 2021, during the coldest spring days (between 0:00 am and 7:00 am), temperatures dropped to -1.20 - 0.43℃ at 120 cm and -1.33 - 0.57℃ at 200 cm above ground level in the control. Conversely, the rain shelter treatment maintained higher temperatures, -0.40 - 0.87℃ at 120 cm and -0.43 - 0.77℃ at 200 cm. Flower damage was significantly lower in the rain-sheltered group, with incidences of 1.3 and 6.9% at 120 and 200 cm, respectively, compared with 18.1 and 22.6% in the control group. Visual observations verified the prevention of frost adhesion on flower organs in the sheltered group, compared with noticeable pistil death and petal browning in the control group. In 2022, when temperatures remained above 0℃, fruitlet stalk length was 5 - 6 mm longer in the sheltered group. The cumulative impact of rain shelters was evident in the improved fruit quality over the two years. This study suggests resilient cultivation strategies in the face of climate change to reduce frost damage, increase productivity, improve fruit quality, and potentially increase incomes of the farmers.

Crimson clover, a legume crop, is a landscape crop and green manure crop that can be sowing in spring and autumn. Its red flower blooms in May, and serves various roles such as landscape composition, weeds suppressing, prevention of soil loss and nutrient on sloping land and supplying nitrogen and organic matter in soil. Thus, in order to utilize this crop in agriculture land, we evaluated the growth characteristics of crimson clover cultivated in four different soil textures, sand, sandy loam, loam, and clay loam. The nitrogen content of crimson clover was 15.8 g kg-1 and C/N rate was 20.3. Its growth was good in sandy loam and loam. Its plant height was 42.5 cm in sandy loam and 49.5 cm in loamy, respectively, which are approximately 20 cm longer than the sand and clay loam. The crimson clover in sandy loam and loam bloomed about seven days earlier than those in sand and clay loam. Regarding number of flower per hill and flower length, there were no difference between soil textures. Dry weight of crimson clover was 2.5 Mg ha-1, 2.3 Mg ha-1 each in sandy loam and loam. Therefore, it was approximately 0.8 ~ 1.1 Mg ha-1 higher than dry weight of sand and sandy loam. Plant height and dry weight of crimson clover was increased late harvest time. Nitrogen contribution were higher in loam and clay loam, when it was respectively 51.3 kg ha-1, 53.5 kg ha-1. Therefore, according to flowering properties and dry weight, the growth and development of crimson clover was finest in sandy loam and loam.
Flower buds of the mulberry(Morus alba L., Morus bombycis Koidz.) were cultured under different conditions such as basal media, and various concentrations of plant growth substances. Effects of the culture conditions on growth of the buds and organ regeneration were investigated and the result obtained are as follows: Murashige and Skoog(M.S.) medium was more effective on budding and growth of female(Keomseolppong) and male(Kaeryangppong) flower buds isolated directly from branches, compared to Greshoff & Doy(G.D.) and Wolter & Skog(W.S.) media. The growth of the female buds was promoted at higher concetration of benzyl amino purine(BAP) i.e., 2.0ppm. The female and male buds cultured after cuuting for seven days showed better growth than those without cutting treatment. The females and the males bloomed to form healthy stigmas and anthers, respectively, when cultured on M.S. media containing high Kinetin with low concentration of indole acetic acid(IAA).
Flowers and shoots of three species of Dendranthema boreale, Dendranthema indicum, Dendranthema zawdskii var. lucidum, were extracted with 80% ethanol by reflux, and polyphenol content, scavenging activity on DPPH and ABTS radicals, ferrous ion chelating effects and inhibition effects on lipid peroxidation were analyzed. Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents were highest in D. zawdskii var. lucidum, especially in the flower part. Scavenging activity on DPPH and ABTS was also highest in D. zawdskii var. lucidum flower with less activity in shoot. Ferrous ion chelating effects was highest with D. boreale flower and lowest in D. zawdskii var. lucidum flower. Inhibition activity on lipid peroxidation was highest in D. zawdskii var. lucidum shoot with 41.01% inhibition activity showing 32 days after reaction, which is higher than synthetic antioxidant BHT. Due to higher antioxidant level and activity of shoot and flower of D. zawdskii var. lucidum is promising material for natural plant antioxidant. It was also shown that antioxidant activity is different according to plant part ever in same plant, and proper plant species should be used for antioxidant after careful studies.
A new standard rose cultivar "Red Charm" was bred from the cross between deep red standard cultivar "First Red" and light red standard cultivar "Cardinal" at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extention Services (JARES). The cross was made in 2003 and, "Red Charm" was finally selected in 2008 after investigating characteristics for three times from 2007 to 2008. "Red Charm", a red standard cultivar has good flower shape and velvet flower color. The major characteristics of this cultivar are on average $119.3stems/m^2/year$ in yield, 69.5 cm in length of cut flower, 10.3 cm in flower diameter, 36.9 in petal number, and 9.8 days in vase life. This cultivar can be propagated by both cutting and grafting. The consumer's preference of this cultivar, "Red Charm" is relatively higher than that of control cultivar, "Red Velvet".
This experiment was done to determine the optimum conditions for the induction of tetraploidy in Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer using bud length, temperature and plant growth regulator pretreatments. Highest callus formation was obtained when the medium was inoculated with flower bud in the size of 2-3 mm in length. The optimum temperature for the callus formation was high when treated at $4^{\circ}C$ for 4-5 days. Among the treatments of growth regulators and different concentration, highest callus formation was observed in combination of 5 mg/L 2,4-D and 1 mg/L kinetin for P. ginseng. As a result of flow cytometer analysis, all 7 adventitious roots were confirmed as tetraploidys. Cytological analysis revealed that the chromosome number of tetraploid roots was 96, while that of diploid roots was 48. Tetraploid ginseng roots were inoculated to flower bud size of 2-3 mm in length. The callus formation was optimum when treated with 1 mg/L 2,4-D at $4^{\circ}C$ for 5 days. Compared with control roots, tetraploid roots were thicker and longer and had few lateral branches. Fresh weight of tetraploid roots was relatively higher than the control roots.
To know the characteristics of flowering in rape, flower numbers, flowering speed, flowering period, pod numbers, pod formation period, and oil content were examined by individual plant and by each of branches per plant. The results are; 1) plant had in average 1, 400 to 1, 500 flowers, 2) completion of flowering per plant took 30 days, 3) pod numbers per plant was ranged from 560 to 630, 4) plant had 18 to 20 primary branches, 5) five days were needed for pod formation, 6) no difference in flowering speed by the position of branches, 7) flowering period was shortened by 0.5 days per branch by going to upper part, 8) oil content of seeds was significantly higher on the upper and lower part than on the middle part branches.
