Methods: Data were collected tbrough medical records of patients visiting emergency room from July of 2004 to October of 2006 and they were analyzed with SPSSlPC 10.0. Conclusion : 1. The number of patients visiting emergency room was average 16.7 persons a day in 2004, 17.5 in 2005 and 18.6 in 2006 and it was found that it was increasing every year since the execution of five-day workweek system 2. Gender distribution of subjects using emergency room was higher in male than in female every year. 3. Means of transport to emergency room were mostly private car and others(public transport or on foot), but use of ambulance was increasing. 4. Residential areas of subjects were mostly 'Myeon area' in 2004~2005, but it was changed to residents at 'Eup area' in 2006. 5. Distribution of patients by medical departments was highest in internal medicine and surgery in 2004~2006 and rate of visiting pediatrics was increasing every year. 6. Time to stay at emergency room was most at 'below 30 min'. in 2004~2006, but cases of stay for 'more than 2 hours' were increasing every year. 7. On presence or absence of trauma in patients visiting emergency room, rate of visit to emergency room with 'no trauma' was higher and this result was increasing every year. 8. As a result of classifying severity of patients visiting emergency room, use rate of emergency room by 'non-emergency' patients was over 90% in 2004~2006 and such a phenomenon was deepened in 2006 compared to that in 2004. 9. Measures after emergency care of patients were most in case of 'discharge' in 2004~2006, but cases of admission to hospital after emergency care were increased every year. 10. According to use of emergency room by a day of the week, use on Sunday was most frequent in 2004~2006, but use on Friday the day before holiday was increasing. 11. According to distribution by age, use by those between '40~49' was most in 2004~2005, but use by those 'below 10' was most in 2006. 12. According to time to visit emergency room, using emergency room at "15:31~23:30 was most in 2004~2006, cases of visiting emergency room at day working hour were decreased every year and those at evening and night working hours were increased. Conclusion: In sum, it was found that characteristics of patients visiting emergency room and their actual status were changed after the execution of five-day workweek system and efforts to rearrange emergency medical system are required.
Day care center for the elderly is an alternative for community care for frail elderly who need social participation and physical cares and services outside the family. The purpose of this study was to identify the present situation of day care center for the elderly and to suggest desirable interior space plans for elderly day care center. Data were collected by two ways; a mail survey and case studies of existing day care centers. Five cases of day care centers were analyzed to find out Physical and space problems, available programs and services. Also, the staffs in 96 day care centers for the elderly in nationwide were selected for a mail survey and 68.8 percentage of all was collected and analyzed. From the result of case studies, narrow space and lack of accessibility features for wheelchair or other prosthetic devices were the major problems. From the result of a mail survey analysis, the elderly users were over 73 years old, and high proportion had suffered from dementia and apoplexy Also, staffing ration was 1:7 In other words, one staff was caring of 7 old people, and supporting staff was insufficient. Therefore, supportive, therapeutic environment Was more important issue to improve quality of care. Separate program room and outdoor space, lounging space, treatment room by gardening, separate counselling room, bedroom, a simple kitchen unit, staff office, separate physical treatment room, resting room for staff was indicated more necessarily. When priority of planning interior space was safety followed by accessability and convenience, it was also reported that sire of each room was generally narrow. The most serious problem in interior space was the lack and narrowness of space, and accessible features for mobility. Based on the literature review and the findings of this study, two types of floor plans for elderly day care center were suggested;‘a mixed type for the elderly with and without dementia’and‘a separate type for the elderly with dementia.’The main goals for designing interior space for two types of elderly day care center were to provide safe environment, encouraging environment for remaining abilities of users, sanitary environment, therapeutic environment, familiar environment, and socially-encouraging environment. The recommendations for further studies were suggested.
This study was carried out to investigate quality characteristics of chopped garlic stored at various temperature. Chopped garlic was stored at room temp.($25^{\circ}C$), refrigerator temp.($5^{\circ}C$) and frozen temp. ($-18^{\circ}C$) for 1, 2, 4, 8, 24, 48, 72 hours(room temp.) and 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20, 30 days(refrigerator temp. and frozen temp.), respectively. Brown color, Hunter color value, vitamine C contents and flavor patterns by electronic noes of chopped garlic were measured. Fresh chopped garlic was used as control and garlic powder by hot air drying was used for comparisons. Brown color of chopped garlic increased with increasing storage time, and the intensity of that was reduced as following order such as chopped garlic stored at room temp., refrigerator temp. and frozen temp. Brown color of garlic powder was most dark amomg all the samples. The results of Hunter color value was consistent with then of brown color in chopped garlic, whereas those of garlic powder showed relatively low browning. Above results might be caused by the difference of measurement as only surface color was measured in Hunter color value unlike brown color. Vitamine C contents of chopped garlic decreased with increasing storage time, and in particular those stored at room temp. decreased markedly as retention of those stored at room temp. was 60% of control after 1 day storage. Vitamine C retention of chopped garlic stored at refrigerator temp. was 78% of control after 10 day storage and that stored at frozen temp. was 86% of control after 30 day storage. At room temp., flavor pattern by electronic nose showed a difference between chopped garlic stored for 1hour and control, and showed occurrence of off odor after 1 day storage. Flavor pattern of garlic powder by electronic nose showed a mild flavor. Flavor patterns of chopped garlic stored at refrigerator temp. were similiar until 10 day storage, whereas those showed occurrence of volitile components after 15 day storage. Flavor patterns of chopped garlic stored at frozen temp. were similiar after 30 day storage, and especially those after 3 day storage were almost the same as control. Therefore it is desirable to store chopped garlic within 1 day at room temp. and within 10 days at refrigerator temp. And it is most desirable to store chopped garlic at frozen temp. as retention of quality characteristics was superior than other storage temp.
The aim of this study is the development of a fee - based model day care center for the elderly by inquiring into the current condition of facilities in America and in Korea, and in surveying the opinion of domestic elderly about day care facilities. A field trip to U.S. day care services was held between July 5 and July 15 in 1997, and an on-the-spot study for domestic facilities took place during March in 1998. Our research reveals that the overall supply of day care facilities can not meet future demand in terms of quality and quantity. Therefore a model must be created for day care centers of a that consists of a director from a professional group. an adequate environment, and a standardized in order to offer a qualified public health service linked to the home and community in Korea. The director of a day care center is a critical variable in determining the quality of service. Professional skills related to the needs of the elderly and the person's quality of service should be considered in appointing director for the center. This study belleves that a professional nurse should be the director of a day care center. The operating environment of a day care facility should be made up of considerable space comparable to the number of residents, should be in a comfortable and safe location, and should have equipment that provides a qualified, safe service to the elderly. Our model is designed for 20 persons and allocates 4 Peng per person. This model is comprised of a reading room. a craft room, a health room, a room for physical therapy, a dining room, a staff office, and a multi -purpose room connected to other rooms. Day care service should be a comprehensive service program meeting the multidimensional needs of the elderly. A comprehensive service program needs a team of various professionals made up of the elderly family, participants, nurses, social workers, physical therapists, nutritionists, and medical doctors. The program will also include health care service, physical therapy, speech therapy. diet, occupational therapy, transportation service, health and an education program, etc. In conclusion, a model of a day care center is developed with the following components: a professional director and an environment and program, that considers the physical, mental, and social characteristics of the elderly. A model should also motivate self-reliance self-fulfillment in the elderly in order to fulfill their health needs and to prevent isolation from society and mental depression. Furthermore, This facility will be a beneficial factor in reducing a family's burden on caring for the elderly that includes unnecessary hospital expenses. The following is a suggestion based on results this study: A service program should be developed to fit the conditions of the elderly in Korea by specifically analyzing the needs of the elderly.
This study aims to identify convenient surrounding of the hospital room to be improved by specifically focusing on light environment and to examine a change of inflow of the daylight in the hospital room by using blind and light shelf device as base data of preliminary research for comprehending the relationship between healing environment and natural day light. Simulation analysis on previous facilities and the installation of horizontal light shelf that derives the inflow of day light has been specifically referred by using ECOTECT2011 program. In case of C-facility that mostly adjoined to exterior spaces, it was shown to be closer to a proper uniformity factor when an angle was controlled on the light shelf with blind installed at the same time. However, it was not overall appropriate because of visual displeasure occurred from inflow of much day light. In conclusion, it is the form of flat surface such as H-facility that provides an effect after installing the device to derive day light. Especially, it was shown that interior day light environment was improved when installing blind and controlling the angle at the same time.
The effect of continuous humidifier use on the bioaerosol concentration in an indoor environment was investigated. An ultrasonic humidifier was operated for 10 hr per day for 15 days in an apartment room. During this time period, viable bioaerosol samples were taken using a single-stage Andersen sampler containing culture media plates for bacteria and fungi. The culture plates were then incubated at room temperature for 2~7 days depending on the media. The counts for the air sample plates were corrected for multiple impactions using the positive hole conversion method and are reported as the colony forming units per cubic meter of air (CFU/$m^3$). While the bacterial concentration measured using the tryptic soy agar (TSA) did not show any significant change during the first 3 days, the concentration increased from the $6^{th}$ day (6979 CFU/$m^3$) and reached a maximum on the $9^{th}$ day (46431 CFU/$m^3$). The concentration then decreased to 2470 CFU/$m^3$ on the $12^{th}$ day, at which point the fungal concentration increased rapidly to 14424~16038 CFU/$m^3$. Also, while the fungal concentration showed a significant change until the $9^{th}$ day of humidifier use, fungal growth was observed on the wallpaper and increased rapidly from the $12^{th}$ day. However, the bacterial concentration increased rapidly after the fungi were removed by remediation. The major fungal species identified in the samples were Penicillium representing 34%, Aspergillus representing 31%, Cladosporium representing 24%, and Alternaria representing 1%. The results also indicated that a relative humidity over 80% was easily achieved with continuous humidifier use. Yet, maintaining a high humidity in a room can cause a rapid outbreak of microbial growth.
This study suggests the basic data required in setting up the standard for the architectural planning of Korean senior center by analyzing the standard and current situation of a senior center in Japan that has the welfare facility system similar to that of Korea and understanding its architectural characteristics. 1) Basic spaces that constitute the senior center in Japan are meeting room, lecture room, library, multipurpose meeting room, conference room, game-recreation room, kitchen, lounge, locker room and office. ADL, kitchen, relaxing room, private bathroom, and special bathroom are needed for adult day care as establishments as an annex and work room is also required for Job training. 2) The area of a senior center is calculated in consideration of its space organization that are required as basic. For the type "A", minimum area of 1,256.42 $m^2$2 and maximum area of 2,050.56$m^2$ and for the type "B", minimum area of 812000$m^2$ and maximum area of 1,604.14$m^2$ are suggested as optimum areas. 3) The circulation planning is presented by the connected between the space organization as well as the circulation system in day care center.

Diurnal variation of $PM_{10}$ concentration was investigated for 24 sites in library including reading room, bookstock room, lobby, office and so on, and 9 sites in student building at Kangwon National University using scattering light integrated type digital dust indicator. The dimensional conversion factors for mass concentrations (K) were determined by comparing between the $PM_{10}$ concentrations collected by $PM_{10}$ hig volume air sampler and the digital dust indicator. The dimensional conversion factor (K) was 3.33 for indoor air in this experiment. The highest concentrations were 649 $\mug/m^3$/day for smoking room in the library and 242 $\mug/m^3$/day for circle room in the student building. Most of spaces in the library except a office and bookstock rooms were over 150 $\mug/m^3$/day of $PM_{10}$ concentrations and 6 indoor spaces were over the guideline for indoor air quality in student building except a health center and two restaurants. Therefore, it should be required to make an improvement on the indoor air quaility for public facilities in the university buildings.

Sungkyunkwan was the highest national education institute of confucianism in the Chosun dynasty. from the historical view of foodservice in Korea, Sungkyunkwan dining room(進士食堂) might be the oldest systematized school foodservice and it was thought that the Korean word of dining room(食堂) was originated from this. The Sungkyunkwan dining room was built in the period of King Tae-jong(太宗) in 1413 and developed during 500 years through the Chosun dynasty. The dining room was not only an eating place but also providing the specific food culture of students. About 200 students studied in Sungkyunkwan and they lived together, and the government of the dynasty made many rules and by-laws to regulate them. Wonjeom(圓點) regulation was one of them. Wonjeom(圓點) was recorded in the register of attendance(到記) in the dining room and the students could obtain 1 point if they attended at the dining room in the morning and the evening in one day. If the students did not obtain the certain points of Wonjeom, they were not qualified for the national examination(大科). And there were so many eating customs and self-regulations in the dining room they were referred in many literatures, such as ${\ulcorner}$the true records of the Chosun dynasty(朝鮮王朝實錄)${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Taehak-Ji(太學志)${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$Banjungiabyoung${\lrcorner}$. In this study, poems in $\boxDr$Banjungjabyoung$\boxUl$, about the Sungkyunkwan dining room and the eating customs such as the eating etiquettes, the daily 8 menu items, the special menus and the special day food, and the bestowal foods of King were reviewed.
