With the emergence of integrated global market and increased competition, many companies are interested in sharing the product model data. One of the solutions is to share the product model data over the computer network or the internet using a standard format. CAD/CAM, STEP, and internet technologies make it possible to share the product model data. This paper presents methods to visualize 3D STEP geometry data on the internet. To create an internet-based STEP model visualizer, the programming language Java and 3D scene description language VRML have been experimented. The STEP geometry data can be displayed either by Java applets of by a VRML browser. These visualization technologies are applied to a PDM development. Engineers who have a low cost web browser can share the expensive design information even at a remote site.
The visualization of three dimensional geophysical data is forcing a revolution in the way of working, and allowing the discovery and production of hydrocarbons at much lower costs than previously thought possible. There are many aspects of this revolution that are behind the scenes, such as the database structure, the storage and retrieval of data, and the exchange of data among programs. Also the user had changes where the interpreter (or manager, or processor) actually looks at and somehow interacts with the data. The use of opacity in volume rendering, and how its judicious application can assist in imaging geologic features in three dimensional seismic data. This revolutionary development of new technology is based on the philosophy of synergy of inter-disciplines of the oil industry. Group interaction fostered by large room visualization environments enables the integration of disciplines we strive for, by putting the petrophysicist, geologist, geophysicist, and reservoir engineer in one place, looking at one image together, without jargon or geography separating them. All these tools developed in the oil industry can be applied into the civil engineering industry also such as the prior geological and geophysical survey of the constructions. Many examples will show how three dimensional geophysical technology might make a revolution in the oil business industry now and in future. This change can be considered as a fusion process at data, information, and knowledge levels.
The present study compares flow fields reconstructed by data assimilation method with different combinations of parameters. As a data assimilation method, Vortex-in-Cell-sharp (VIC#), which supplements additional constraints and multigrid approximation to Vortex-in-Cell-plus (VIC+), is used to reconstruct flow fields from scattered particle tracks. Two parameters, standard deviation of Gaussian radial basis function (RBF) and grid spacing, are mainly tested using artificial data sets which contain few particle tracks. Consequent flow fields are analyzed in terms of flow structure sizes. It is demonstrated that sizes of the flow structures are proportional to an actual scale of the standard deviation of RBF. It implies that a combination of larger grid spacing and smaller standard deviation which preserves the actual standard deviation is able to save computational resources in case of a low track density. In addition, a simple comparison using an experimental data filled with dense particle tracks is conducted.
Increased competitive challenges are forcing companies to find better ways to bring their applications to market faster. Distributed development environments can help companies improve their time-to-market by enabling parallel activities. Although, such environments still have their limitations in real-time communication and real-time collaboration during the product development process. This paper describes a web-based collaborative framework which has been developed to support the decision making on a 3D design developing process. The paper describes 3D design file for the discussion that contains all relevant annotations on its surface and their visualization on the user interface for design changing. The framework includes a native CAD data converting module, 3D data based real-time communication module, revision control module for 3D data and some sub-modules such as data storage and data management. We also discuss some raised issues in the project and the steps underway to address them.

The study of Web MGIS(Marine Geographic Information System) based on the SVG(Scalable Vector Graphics) is mainly performed on effective methodologies which transform real world data to computing world data. Web GUI system has its own target on reliable data service by acquisition of geometric information using HYCOM(HYbrid Coordinate Ocean Model), accurate measurement and graphical visualization. This type of raw data visualization can be built without software tools, yet is incredibly useful for interpreting and communicating data. Even simple visualizations can aid in the interpretation of complex hydrodynamic relationships that are frequently encountered in the marine environment. The Web MGIS provides an easy way for hydrodynamic geoscientists to construct complex visualizations that can be viewed with free software. This study proposes a Web GUI MGIS using FVCOM(Finite Volume Coastal Ocean Model). Finally, we design a Marine Web GUI system of Kosrae Coastal Waters integrating above data models. It must adds more ecological information and the various service item for approach more easily in order to user.

The inner space of building is increasingly becoming complex as urban activities increase in variety, and the actual space size also increases. This trend necessitate the utilization of three dimensional position information within the inner space of buildings. Standard GIS web service technology and visualization technology are applied to 3D inner space building data to share these information for better decision making in building related applications such as fire evacuation, facilities management and market analysis. This study aims to effectively model and visualize the three dimensional space of building interiors in the GIS aspect, and to be able to share the information through standard GIS web service. The various elements of inner model was assigned and stored into pre-designed spatial database tables respectively. GIS web server was then configured to service the database which was populated with 3D inner model data. On the client side, 3D visualization modules was developed using a 3D graphic rendering S/W engine.
Due to the continuing technical progress in the capabilities of modeling, simulation, and sensor devices, huge volume data with very high resolution are common. In scientific visualization, various interactive real-time techniques on high performance parallel computers to effectively render such large scale volume data sets have been proposed. In this paper, we present a mobile volume visualization system that consists of mobile clients, gateways, and parallel rendering servers. The mobile clients allow to explore the regions of interests adaptively in higher resolution level as well as specify rendering / viewing parameters interactively which are sent to parallel rendering server. The gateways play a role in managing requests / responses between mobile clients and parallel rendering servers for stable services. The parallel rendering servers visualize the specified sub-volume with rendering contexts from clients and then transfer the high quality final images back. This proposed system lets multi-users with PDA simultaneously share commonly interesting parts of huge volume, rendering contexts, and final images through CSCW(Computer Supported Cooperative Work) mode.

Mobile device, one of typical devices in ubiquitous environment, is received attention owing to portability. In these days, technical researches on a kind of the device are focusing on applications of smart phone. For example, the techniques using geographical position and applied instances such as augmented reality techniques are gradually increasing. That makes data processing important. Mobile application services for users also require various application techniques based on moving objects. In addition, they require the techniques that processed data are needed to be shown in visualization. However, this is reality that it lacks of showing visualization works to improve the understanding of thing what it is. To reduce or solve the problems, in this paper we show the results to implement the R tree based 3 dimension index architecture in visualization. Further, we implemented and present creating objects, showing in 3D for the objects, catching spatial position on a node map through mini map function and improving the understanding of R tree by visualizing.

This study analyzes the time-space variability for the weekly passenger flow of the Seoul Subway system based on the dynamic visualization methods. For the purpose, we utilize one-week T-card transaction databases. By applying data mining algorithms, we extract passenger data for edge flows, on/off passengers at each subway station per minute interval time. It is practically intractable to analyze such spatio-temporal passenger flows by general statistical techniques. We employ dynamic visualization methods to analyze intuitively and to grasp effectively characteristics of the diurnal passenger flows on the Seoul Metropolitan Subway system during one week. As the result, we found that substantial differences exist on the spatio-temporal distribution patterns among days as well as between weekdays and weekend. We also investigates the time-space variability among eight major centers, and we found wide differences in their spatio-temporal distribution patterns.
