  • To minimize energy consumption, most of MAC Protocols in WSNs exploit low duty cycling. Among those, RMAC [4] allows a node to transmit a data packet for multiple hops in a single duty cycle, which is made possible by exploiting a control frame named Pioneer (PION) in setting up the path. In this paper, we present a MAC Protocol called Hop Extended MAC (HE-MAC) that transmits the data packet for more multiple hops in a single duty cycle. It employs an EXP (Explorer) frame to set up the multiple hop transmission, which contains the information of the maximum hop that a packet can be transmitted. With the use of the information in EXP and an internal state of Ready to Receive (RTR), HEMAC extends the relay of the packet beyond the termination of the data period by two more hops compared to RMAC. Along with our proposed adaptive sleeping method, it also reduces power consumption and handles heavy traffic efficiently without experiencing packet inversion observed in RMAC. We analytically obtain the packet delivery latency in HE-MAC and evaluate the performance through ns-2 simulations. Compared to RMAC, HE-MAC achieves 14% less power consumption and 20% less packet delay on average for a random topology of 300 nodes.

  • Support has always been considered an important nursing concept. However, there is no agreement among nurse researchers as to a conceptual definition of supportive nursing or meaningful supportive behaviors. Clarification of the concept, support in nursing, is necessary to promote communication among nurses on nursing behaviors that are effective in providing support and on understanding the relevant properties and charcteristics of the concept, supportive nursing care. The objectives of the study were : 1. to analyse the concept, support in nursing, in order to provide a definition of supportive nursing care, and 2. to operationalize the definition of supportive nursing care and use it as an experimental nursing intervention for patients with low back pain. The first part of the study used the concept analysis approach developed by Walker and Avant(1983) to define the concept of supportive nursing care. The properties of supportive nursing care, defined by this analysis, included perception of supportive need, reciprocal interaction(Transaction), listening, providing empathy and information related to health, and confirmation of the patient's verbal and non - verbal response. The second part, the experimental part of the study, was done using King's(1970) Interpersonal Theory for Nursing. The concept, supportive nursing care, as defined in the concept analysis was operationalized and used as the experimental intervention. The experiment tested the effectiveness of the independent variable, supportive nursing care on the dependent variables, depression, mood and patient satisfaction, in the patients with low back pain in army hospitals. The instruments used to measure the dependent variables were Zung's(1965) Self- Rating Depression Scale, Ryman and Colleagues'(1974) Mood Questionnaire and LaMonica and Colleagues'(1986) Patient Satisfaction Scale. The experimental design used for this study was a Solomon 4 group experimental design. This design has the strength of allowing for observation of the main effects of supportive nursing care and pretesting, and for observation of the interaction effects of pretesting and supportive nursing care. The design includes one experimental group and three control groups. The Subjects of this study were 150 young male patients with low back pain on Neuro - Surgical Wards in three general army hospitals. There were 35 in the experimental group, 39 in the pre - posttest control group, 36 in the treatment - posttest control group and 40 in the posttest only control group. Supportive nursing care, as operationalized by the researcher according to the concept analysis, was given to the patients in the experimental group and the treatment -posttest control group, individually for 30 minute sessions, every other day for 5 days. Data collection was done using a questionnaire. The data were collected in a pretest one week before the supportive nursing care sessions, a posttest immediately after the sessions and follow- up test one week later. Hypotheses testing was done using 2×2 factorial analysis of variance and Meta analysis(Stouffer's Z method). The results of this study are summarized as follows : 1. Hypothesis Ⅰ, “There will be a difference on depression level between the patients with low back pain who receive supportive nursing care and those who do not receive supportive nursing care”, was supported (F=8.49, p<.05). 2. Hypothesis Ⅱ, “There will be a difference on mood level between the patients with low back pain who receive supportive nursing care and those who to not receive supportive nursing care”, was supported (Z meta=2.17, p<.05). 3. Hypothesis Ⅲ, “There will be a difference on satisfaction level between the patients with low back pain who receive supportive nursing care and those who do not receive supportive nursing care”, was supported (F=13.67, p<.05). 4. ANOVA, done to examine the interaction effect of history and maturation, showed no significant difference on the dependent variables between the observations of the pretest scores of the experimental group, the pretest scores of the pre- posttest control group and the posttest score of the posttest only control group. 5. To test for continuing effect of supportive nursing care, paired t-test was done to compare the scores for the dependent variables at the posttest and at the one week later follow-up test. No significant difference on the scores for the dependent variables was found between the posttest scores and the follow-up test scores for the two groups that received supportive nursing care, the experimental group and the treatment-posttest control group. In conclusion, it was found that in the case of young soldiers with low back pain in army hospitals, their depression level was decreased, their mood state was changed positively and their satisfaction level was increased by receiving supportive nursing care. Further, the effectiveness of the supportive nursing care lasted for at least one week in this study. The significance of this study to nursing is in the analysis of the concept of supportive nursing care and the demonstration of the effectiveness of supportive nursing care as an intervention within the limits of the study.

  • In this paper, we presetn the WWW (world-wide-web) base dtelePACS, which uses the communication network as asymmetric satellite data communication system (ASDCS). Web-based telePACS is imple-mented with JAVA language. Through the internet, web-based TelePACS can make it possible for remote hospital or doctor to access PACS data and information easily and cheaply. The ASDCS uses receive-only satellite links for data delivery and PSTN (Public switched telephone Network) modem or N-ISDN (narrow band integrate services digital network) for communication. The satellite communication linking shows the very high-seed performance such as 10-30 times faster than the modem linking. To solve the speed limits of internet, JPEG and wavelet compression methods were adapted in WWW-based TelePACS and were evaluated by PSNR (peak signal-to-noise ratio) and by radiological experts that 10:1 or less JPEG and wavelet compression may be acceptable for diagnostic purposes. Consequently, we get the conslusion that our system is suitable for tele-radiology and telemedicine world widely.

  • The purpose of this study, therefore, was to construct the region statistical information to present methods of the data. The results of this paper are as follows: First, the construction of region statistical data is much in need of utilizing the server of regional information center, or the database to the server of public institutions, Second, there are some difficulties to receive the region statistical data because of only depending on the main source of KOSIS provided by national units from National Statistical Office. Third, as there is another problem which is text searching system served by KOSIS, GU system should be established for the user's satisfaction served by easier accessing screen. Fourth, there should be a standard software production to suit for the accessing software of the region statistical data.

  • COMS will transmit its observed data, Sensor Data, through L-Band with linear polarization. To avoid link loss caused by polarization discrepancy between satellite and SOC DATS, the L-Band antenna at SOC DATS should be linearly polarized. However, SOC DATS is supposed to share single antenna with SOC TTC, so the antenna should be circularly polarized. To cope with about 3dB loss, SOC DATS is designed to receive Sensor Data through two orthogonal circular polarizations, RHCP (Right-Hand Circular Polarization) and LHCP (Left-Hand Circular Polarization). Eventually, SOC DATS can obtain 2.6dB of combining gain through diversity combiner in MODEM/BB. This paper presents the verification on the diversity combining of SOC DATS with test configuration and results in depth.

  • KMA successfully began to receive and utilize the GOES-9 GVAR data since May 22nd 2003 when GOES-9 replaced the long-lived GMS-5 for Western Pacific and East Asian region until operation of MTSAT-1R in 2004. To take advantage of improvements of the GOES-9 data over the GMS-5 data, such as the increase of the temporal and spat ial resolution and addition of 3.9${\mu}$m channel, we have improved several algorithms to derive the meteorological products. Here we show two examples of algorithms, sea surface temperature and atmospheric motion vector, and preliminary results of validation of the improved algorithm.

  • In this paper, the compressed sensing basic pursuit denoise algorithm adopted to synthetic aperture radar imaging is investigated to improve the object recognition. From the incomplete data sets for image processing, the compressed sensing algorithm had been integrated to recover the data before the conventional back- projection algorithm was involved to obtain the synthetic aperture radar images. This method can lead to the reduction of measurement events while scanning the objects. An ultra-wideband radar scheme using a stripmap synthetic aperture radar algorithm was utilized to detect objects hidden behind the box. The Ultra-Wideband radar system with 3.1~4.8 GHz broadband and UWB antenna were implemented to transmit and receive signal data of two conductive cylinders located inside the paper box. The results confirmed that the images can be reconstructed by using a 30% randomly selected dataset without noticeable distortion compared to the images generated by full data using the conventional back-projection algorithm.
