  • We investigated how bibliometric indicators such as publication count and citation count affect the assessment of research performance by computing various bibliometric scores of the works of Korean LIS faculty members and comparing the rankings by those scores. For the study data, we used the publication and citation data of 159 tenure-track faculty members of Library and Information Science departments in 34 Korean universities. The study results showed correlation between publication count and citation count for authors with many publications but the opposite evidence for authors with few publications. The study results suggest that as authors publish more and more work, citations to their work tend to increase along with publication count. However, for junior faculty members who have not yet accumulated enough publications, citations to their work are of great importance in assessing their research performance. The study data also showed that there are marked differences in the magnitude of citations between papers published in Korean journals and papers published in international journals.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the three-year results and impact of a school library revitalization project. The data were collected using school library surveys, questionnaires, and group interviews. The analyses particularly focused on examining the impact of library schedules, programs, collections and uses on the school library's academic achievements. The analyses revealed that the school library uses and the recognition of their importance were improved significantly through school library establishment and remodelling and that school libraries could positively influence students' academic achievements, as shown by studies of the U.S. school libraries. Due to the lack of library collections and professionals, however, it is desired to carry out a further research in this area.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze library space use patterns through users' smartphone WiFi. This study is applied a method to detect WiFi signal of users' smartphone to analyze the in-library wayfinding of users. The library usage data were collected for four months in a library in Seoul, Korea. The results show that the average 37.9% of library users revisits the library the next month. Half of users stay under 7 minutes in the library. Users mainly visit the library between 2 and 3 o'clock, and few users visit the library after 5 pm on weekends. The floor moving pattern result shows that the co-visit rate between the third and fourth floor is higher than others, in that these two floors are mainly composed of book shelves. These results indicate that the method to detect the WiFi signal for spatial pattern analysis could be more effective than observation which was used in previous research. It, therefore, is expected that this method would be applied in other libraries to analyze and enhance the library space usage.

  • Server transaction logs containing complete click-through data from a digital library of primarily image-based documents were analyzed to better understand user search session behavior. One month of data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and network analysis methods. The findings reveal iterative search behaviors centered on result views and evaluation and topical areas of focus for the search sessions. The study is novel in its combined analytical techniques and use of click-through data for image collections.

  • Most of Korean Medical researcher is using MEDLINE which is made by National Library of Medicine in U.S. However we have not such total database of medical information. And so, we have designed medical literature article system, serial union cataloging system and interlibrary loan system as library total system. All Korean Medical Association member input bibliographic data and holding data. Medical researcher can access medical literature article system at www and then access holding data and they can use interlibrary loan system in online. The object of this total system is that medical researcher as well as medical librarian can easily retrive medical literature and gain original article.

  • The purpose of this study is to effectively provide professors in the design field with information services by identifying their information use behaviors. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires after dividing the specialties of 110 professors in the design field into 4 areas. The results were made in terms of purposes of use and the acquisition channels, types of information sources, difficulties of information acquisition and the library use of the institution. Some suggestions were shown as follows: collection of gray literatures such as exhibition data, seminar data, reports and pamphlets, purchase of web databases in design field, information literacy education including the use of domestic and foreign design databases for the professors and the construction of web directories on the library web sites.

  • Background: The current status of ACE format MCNP/MCNPX libraries by NDC of KAERI is presented with a short description of each library. Materials and Methods: Validation calculations with recent nuclear data evaluations ENDF/BV-II. 0, ENDF/B-VII.1, JEFF-3.2, and JENDL-4.0 have been carried out by the MCNP5 code for 119 criticality benchmark problems taken from the expanded criticality validation suite supplied by LANL. The overall performances of the ACE format KN-libraries have been analyzed in comparison with the results calculated with the ENDF/B-VII.0-based ENDF70 library of LANL. Results and Discussion: It was confirmed that the ENDF/B-VII.1-based KNE71 library showed better performances than the others by comparing the RMS errors and ${chi}^2$ values for five benchmark categories as well as whole benchmark problems. ENDF/B-VII.1 and JEFF-3.2 have a tendency to yield more reliable MCNP calculation results within certain confidence intervals regarding the total uncertainties for the $k_{eff}$ values. Conclusion: It is found that the adoption of the latest evaluated nuclear data might ensure better outcomes in various research and development areas.

  • Recently, a drone is used for the general purpose application although the drone was builtfor the military purpose. A drone is actively used for the creation of contents, and an image acquisition. In this paper, we develop a 3D library module platform using 3D mesh model data, which is generated by a drone image and its point cloud. First, a lot of 2D image data are taken by a drone, and a point cloud data is generated from 2D drone images. A 3D mesh data is acquired from point cloud data. Then, we develop a service library platform using a transformed 3D data for multi-purpose uses. Our platform with 3D data can minimize the cost and time of contents creation for special effects during the production of a movie, drama, or documentary. Our platform can contribute the creation of experts for the digital contents production in the field of a realistic media, a special image, and exhibitions.

  • A public library is changing into a place where people can freely acquire and make use of information in digital environment with the basic ideology of publicity. In spite of such changes, multimedia center is still biased with the function of computer room to use PC and is not used actively by many users. This study can be summarized and concluded as follows and spatial characteristics of digital data room of public library can make use of space planning elements by aspects as an analysis tool. First, designed characteristics focusing too much on the possession of seats for reading digital data. Therefore, spatial planning for users to choose necessary facilities according to the data they wish to read and type of users is needed. Second, interior tone of multimedia center is applied with identical color for all floors, walls, and ceilings, to create sense of unification. However, due to the arrangement of similar colors, while using identical brightness and chroma, some users felt difficult to realize shape or depth in space. It is more appropriate to apply distinctive color plan according to the characteristic of the data or space region, in order to create pleasant digital environment for visually weaker people or elderly. Third, psychological or technical factors of multimedia center is not sufficiently applied in space planning elements for users. In order for various digital service of public library to be technically implemented, it is necessary to organize open space by expanding the size of multimedia center to utilize high-tech facilities.
