  • This paper presents a new circular curve fitting approach of articulated manipulators, based on pseudoinverses. The paper aims at gaining the interpolation of circle from n data points, under the condition that the fitted circle should pass both a start point and an end point. In this paper, two algorithms of circular interpolation are presented. Prior to circular interpolation, are a spherical fitting should be performed, using least squares. In the first algorithm, the relationship between point data and normal vector on the sphere is used. In the second algorithm. the equation of plane which can be obtained from 3 points, i.e., a start point, an end point, and center of a sphere. The proposed algorithms are show to be efficient by using MATLAB-based simulation.

  • This paper presents 3D line segment extraction method, which can be used in generating 3D rooftop model. The core of our method is that 3D line segment is extracted by using line fitting of elevation data on 2D line coordinates of ortho-image. In order to use elevations in line fitting, the elevations should be reliable. To measure the reliability of elevation, in this paper, we employ the concept of self-consistency. We test the effectiveness of the proposed method with a quantitative accuracy analysis using synthetic images generated from Avenches data set of Ascona aerial images. Experimental results indicate that the proposed method shows average 30 line errors of .16 - .30 meters, which are about $10\%$ of the conventional area-based method.

  • Electrochemical noise signals in many cases exhibit a DC drift that should be removed prior to further data analysis. Polynomial fitting and moving average removal method have been used to remove trends of electrochemical noise (EN) in time domain. The corrosion inhibition of synthesized schiff base N,N'-bis(3,5-dihydroxyacetophenone)-2,2-dimethylpropandiimine on API-5L-X70 steel in hydrochloric acid solutions were used to study the effects of drifts removal methods on noise resistance calculation. Also, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to study the corrosion inhibition property of the inhibitor. The results showed that for the calculation of $R_n$, both methods were effective in trend removal and the polynomial with m=4 and MAR with p=40 were in agreement.

  • Low frequency towed line array with high array gain and beam resolution is a long range surveillance sensor for anti-submarine warfare. The beam characteristics is however deteriorated due to the distorted line array sensor caused by low towing speed, wind, current, and towing ship maneuvering. An adaptive beamforming method is utilized in this paper to enhance the distorted line array beam performance by estimating and compensating the nonlinear array shape. A polynomial curve fitting in the least square sense is used to estimate the array shape iteratively with the distributed heading sensors data along the array. Real time array shape estimation and nonlinear array beam calculation is applied to a very long towed line array sensor system and the beam performance is evaluated and compared to the linear beamformer for the simulation and sea trial data.

  • A mixture of multivariate canonical fundamental skew t-distribution (CFUST) has been of interest in various fields. In particular, interest in the unsupervised learning society is noteworthy. However, fitting the model via EM algorithm suffers from significant processing time. The main cause is due to the calculation of many multivariate t-cdfs (cumulative distribution functions) in E-step. In this article, we provide an approximate, but fast calculation method for the in univariate fashion, which is the product of successively conditional univariate t-cdfs with Taylor's first order approximation. By replacing all multivariate t-cdfs in E-step with the proposed approximate versions, we obtain the admissible results of fitting the model, where it gives 85% reduction time for the 5 dimensional skewness case of the Australian Institution Sport data set. For this approach, discussions about rough properties, advantages and limits are also presented.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the fitness and its problems related in clothing fitness and to get basic data to develop fit ready-to-wear garment, total 352 subjects were surveyed during the period of November, 1998. The major results of this study were as follows ; 1. Both men and women felt fitter in upper clothes than lower clothes. As compared with women, men became more aware of proper fit except coat. 2. Men had lest fitting problems in blouse and shirts while women in coat. Also, the clothes stated which had most fitting problems were trousers by men and women. 3. A variety of fitting problems in ready-to wear garments were identified including sleeve length, skirt length, and pants length. 4. The most frequent alterations were shortening or lengthen of skirt and pants.

  • The analysis of cornea morphology using corneal topographers is a clinical practice for the diagnosis of keratoconus in contact lens fitting. The recently technique has developed with the possibility of achieving a great number of measuring points of both anterior and posterior corneal surfaces in cornea. Also these data are used to extract a series of topographic valuation indices that permit to offer the most exact clinical diagnosis of keratoconus in contact lens fitting. This study describes the technologies in which current corneal topographers are based on the morphological characteristics that the keratoconus status observe on corneal surface. Therefore, this paper can provide that the analysis of corneal topographers applied for the diagnosis of keratoconus in contact lens fitting.

  • Approximate lofting or skinning is one of practical surface modeling techniques well used in CAD and reverse engineering applications. Presented in this paper is a method for approximately lofting a given set of curves wihin a specified tolereance. It is based on refitting input curves simultaneously on a common knot vector and interpolating them to get a resultant NURBS surface. A concept of reducing the number of interior knots of the common knot vector is well adopted to acquire more compact representation for the resultant surface. Energy minimization is newly introduced in curve refitting process to stabilize the solution of the fitting problem and get more fair curve. The proposed approximate lofting provides more smooth surface models and realizes more efficient data reduction expecially when the parameterization and compatibility of input curves are not good enough. The method has been successfully implemented in a new CAD/CAM product VX Vision? of Varimetrix Corporation.

  • Many studies for measuring vibration using image signal are suggested. These methods can measure vibration of multi-points simultaneously. However, it has the disadvantage that is very sensitive to an environment. If the measured environment is not good, image signals can be measured including much background noise. So, it is difficult to obtain accurate vibration from the measured image signals. Another problem is that camera imaging has a resolution limit. Because the resolution of the camera image is relatively much lower than that of a data acquisition system, accurate measuring vibration cannot be performed. In this paper, we proposed the enhanced technique for measuring vibration using camera signal. The key word of this paper is a curve fitting. The curve fitting can exactly detect the measurement line of interested object. So, we can measure the vibration in noisy environment. Also, it can overcome the resolution limit.
