  • In the case of the image reconstruction from unknown projection data such as imaging the object with opaque obstructions, conventional reconstruction algorithms may reconstruct a degraded image. In this paper, a new method for the estimation of the unknown projection data based on known projection data and the bandwidth of projection data is proposed. The proposed method successfully estimates the unknown projection data through iterative transformation between projection space and frequency space using the known projection data and the bandwidth of the projection data. Computer simulation shows that the proposed method significantly improves image quality and convergence behavior over conventional algorithms. In addition, the proposed method is successfully applied to ultrasound attenuation CT using a sponge phantom.

  • While graphics processing units (GPUs) can be used to improve the performance of real-time embedded applications that require high throughput, it is challenging to estimate the worst-case execution time (WCET) of GPU programs, because modern GPUs are designed for improving the average-case performance rather than time predictability. In this paper, a reordering framework is proposed to regulate the access to the GPU data cache, which helps to improve the accuracy of the estimation of GPU L1 data cache miss rate with low performance overhead. Also, with the improved cache miss rate estimation, tighter WCET estimations can be achieved for GPU programs.

  • This paper is concerned with a computational method for recovering a crack shape of steam generator tubes of nuclear plants. Problems on the shape identification are discussed arising in the characterization of a structural defect in a conductor using data of eddy current inspection. A surface defect on the generator tube ran be detected as a probe impedance trajectory by scanning a pancake type coil. First, a mathematical model of the inspection process is derived from the Maxwell's equation. Second, the input and output relation is given by the approximate model by virtue of the hybrid use of the finite element and boundary element method. In that model, the crack shape is characterized by the unknown coefficients of the B-spline function which approximates the crack shape geometry. Finally, a parameter estimation technique is proposed for recovering the crack shape using data from the probe coil. The computational experiments were successfully tested with the laboratory data.

  • In this paper the estimation of the parameters as well as survival and hazard functions are presented for the two-parameter Pareto distribution by using Bayesian and non-Bayesian approaches under upper record values. Maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) and interval estimation are derived for the parameters. Bayes estimators of reliability performances are obtained under symmetric (Squared error) and asymmetric (Linex and general entropy (GE)) losses, when two parameters have discrete and continuous priors, respectively. Finally, two numerical examples with real data set and simulated data, are presented to illustrate the proposed method. An algorithm is introduced to generate records data, then a simulation study is performed and different estimates results are compared.

  • This paper deals with robust nonparametric regression analysis when the regressors are functional random fields. More precisely, we consider $Z_i=(X_i,Y_i)$, $i{\in}\mathbb{N}^N$ be a $\mathcal{F}{\times}\mathbb{R}$-valued measurable strictly stationary spatial process, where $\mathcal{F}$ is a semi-metric space and we study the spatial interaction of $X_i$ and $Y_i$ via the robust estimation for the regression function. We propose a family of robust nonparametric estimators for regression function based on the kernel method. The main result of this work is the establishment of the asymptotic normality of these estimators, under some general mixing and small ball probability conditions.

  • State estimators are used to monitor the operating states of power systems in modern EMS. It iteratively calculates the voltage profile of the currently operating power system with voltage, current, and power measurements gathered from the entire system. All the measurements are usually assumed to be obtained simultaneously. It is practically impossible, however, to maintain the synchronism of the measurement data. Recently, phasor measurements synchronized via satellite are used for the operation of these power systems. This paper describes the modified state estimator used to support the processing of synchronized phasor measurements. Synchronized phasor measurements are found to provide synchronism of measurement data and improve the accuracy/redundancy of the measurement data for state estimation. The details of the developed state estimation program and some numerical results of operation are presented.

  • This article presents an approach to estimate the general 3D motion of a polyhedral object using multiple, sensory data some of which may not provide sufficient information for the estimation of object motion. Motion can be estimated continuously from each sensor through the analysis of the instantaneous state of an object. We have introduced a method based on Moore-Penrose pseudo-inverse theory to estimate the instantaneous state of an object. A linear feedback estimation algorithm is discussed to estimate the object 3D motion. Then, the motion estimated from each sensor is fused to provide more accurate and reliable information about the motion of an unknown object. The techniques of multisensor data fusion can be categorized into three methods: averaging, decision, and guiding. We present a fusion algorithm which combines averaging and decision.

  • In this parer, under random censorship model, an estimation of scale and shape parameters in Weibull lifetime model is considered. Based on nonparametric estimator of survival function, the least square method is proposed. The proposed estimation method is simple and the performance of the proposed estimator is as efficient as maximum likelihood estimators. An example is presented, using field winding data. Simulation studies are performed to compare the performaces of the proposed estimator and maximum likelihood estimator.

  • State estimation is to estimate the values of the states that minimize the error between the real states and the measured states, which are usually hampered by noise. It exploits the redundant data and the equality constraints achieved from the power systems. In the electric railway feeding systems, especially, the measured states may have significant level of noise in comparison with the commercial power systems. Since the meters - the sources of the data that include vehicles - are distributed in the long distance along the railroad, they are vulnerable to the signal interference. In this paper we have studied the application of state estimation method to the AT feeding systems and shown that this method can increase the reliability of the measured data.
