Real Time Monitoring and Simulation System (RTMASS) for Tak Flux Measurement Site, Thailand (태국 Tak 플럭스 관측소의 실시간 자료 감시 및 모사 시스템)

  • The Tak flux measurement (TFM) site, one of the sites of Korean Flux Network (KoFlux) which is an infrastructure of AsiaFlux, is constructed at a northwest of Thailand. The eddy covariance technique is used for measuring energy, water and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) fluxes, and a real time monitoring and simulation system (RTMASS) developed for data acquisition and processing. The RTMASS is the core structure of the KoFlux-data information system (KoFlux-DIS) and consisted of a remote and a local system. Data acquisition and transmission, and data storage, processing and publishing are functions of those systems, respectively. As primary results about the characteristics of mean flow and turbulence analysis, TFM is a proper site to measure and analyze the various fluxes and those budgets on tropical deciduous forest.

The Wireless Communication for Marine Buoy (해상 브이용 무선 통신체계)

  • Ocean buoys are operated for safe navigation and collecting ocean data. Recently, to reducing marine buoy's damage by ocean weather's bad condition and collision with vessels has been conducted in several field research. This paper's experiment is buoy condition monitoring about predefined data form by users. As a result using Wireless remote control board applying a radio signal processing algorithms, it can observe buoy's state at an interval of three minutes on the land. Acquired data type is changeable according to ocean weather condition or buoy's purpose of using in advance. Also, this paper conducted an experiment such as data-transmission's stability and wireless communication's availability. As results of the analysis of the transmitted data, the solar, wind and wave power indicates the maximum amount of power, 50 W, 20 W and 40 W respectively. The communication system proven through this research can apply to buoy or other ocean facility.

  • The MATS(Missile Assembly Test Set) is manufactured and used to check the function of the missile during the period of development for the guided missile system, and the requirements for power and communication are managed for equipment production. The MATS developer implements software according to the proposed communication standard to guarantee the reliability of the data that communicates with the guided missile. The test bed is built and self-performance evaluation is performed after implementation. And the verification process is performed using the standard equipment. The characteristics of periodic delay for data transmission must be reflected when building a test bed. This paper describes a test bed construction method for data processing with periodic delay. Also This paper compares and evaluates the performance by changing the previously designed algorithm.

  • This paper analyzed the characteristics of the Lossy JPEG of the meteorological satellite image, and analyzed the quality of the Lossy JPEG compression, which is proper for the LRIT(Low Rate Information Transmission) to be serviced to the SDUS(Small-scale Data Utilization Station) system of the COMS(Communication, Oceans, Meteorological Satellite). Since COMS is to start running after 2008, we collected the data of the MTSAT-1R(Multi-functional Transport Satellite -1R) for analysis, and after forming the original image to be used to LRIT by each channel and time zone of the satellite image data, we set the different quality with the Lossy JPEG compression, and compressed the original data. For the characteristic analysis of the Lossy JPEG, we measured PSNR(Peak Signal to Noise Rate), compression rate and the time spent in compression following each quality of Lossy JPEG compression. As a result of the analysis of the satellite image data of the MTSAT-1R, the ideal quality of the Lossy JPEG compression was found to be 90% in the VIS Channel, 85% in the IR1 Channel, 80% in the IR2 Channel, 90% in the IR3 Channel and 90% in the IR4 Channel.

An integrated structural health monitoring system for the Xijiang high-speed railway arch bridge

  • Compared with the highway bridges, the relatively higher requirement on the safety and comfort of vehicle makes the high-speed railway (HSR) bridges need to present enhanced dynamic performance. To this end, installing a health monitor system (HMS) on selected key HSR bridges has been widely applied. Typically, the HSR takes fully enclosed operation model and its skylight time is very short, which means that it is not easy to operate the acquisition devices and download data on site. However, current HMS usually involves manual operations, which makes it inconvenient to be used for the HSR. Hence, a HMS named DASP-MTS (Data Acquisition and Signal Processing - Monitoring Test System) that integrates the internet, cloud computing (CC) and virtual instrument (VI) techniques, is developed in this study. DASP-MTS can realize data acquisition and transmission automatically. Furthermore, the acquired data can be timely shared with experts from various locations to deal with the unexpected events. The system works in a Browser/Server frame so that users at any places can obtain real-time data and assess the health situation without installing any software. The developed integrated HMS has been applied to the Xijiang high-speed railway arch bridge. Preliminary analysis results are presented to demonstrate the efficacy of the DASP-MTS as applied to the HSR bridges. This study will provide a reference to design the HMS for other similar bridges.

  • The WAP 2.0 system is a newly proposed wireless communication system by the WAP Forum for interoperability across Internet environment and the system takes charge of communication between WAP terminals and existing origin Web servers. The purpose of this paper is 1) to construct a WAP 2.0 proxy proposed by the WAP Forum and 2) to improve the WAP Proxy in order to increase communication efficiency between wired and wireless communication objects. The Improved WAP proxy constructed in this study provides links between wired and wireless communication environments using the split-TCP concept. However, unlike the split-TCP connection, The improved WAP proxy maintains TCP's end-to-end semantics and reduces overhead by avoiding operations as much as possible on the upper protocol layer. In addition, The improved WAP proxy supports SACK(Selective Acknowledgement ) option and Timestamp option for speedy re-transmission which leads to reduction of performance degradation. After constructing the improved WAP proxy under Linux environment, experiments have been taken. The experimental results show that, compared with the experiments when a WAP proxy proposed by the WAP Forum is used, both data transmission delay time and data transmission size decrease to show that communication efficiency is increased. In particular, as packet missing ratio Increases, data transmission size decreases, which demonstrates that the improved WAP proxy is very effective for performance improvement in wireless communication environment.

Study on a Secure Active network Architecture (안전한 액티브 네트워크 구조에 관한 연구)

  • The existing passive networks have the only data-storing and transmission functions. On the other hand, the active network which can do operation jobs on the transmitting packets was introduced at 1990's. However, the advantages of activating processing are obviously more complex than traditional networks and raise considerable security issues. In this paper, we propose the safer structure in Active Networks that is based on the discrete approach which resolves the weak point of the Active Network. The proposed system provides the node management and user management in the Active Networks, and improves the security of Packet transmission with packet cryptography and the session.

  • During launch a spacecraft is subjected to a variety of dynamical loads transmitted through the launcher to spacecraft interface or air-born transmission excitations in the acoustic pressure field inside the fairing. As a result, spacecraft are tested on ground to ensure and demonstrate the global integrity of the structure against these loads, to screen the flight hardware for quality of workmanship and to validate mathematical models. This paper addresses the numerical modelling and simulation of the low frequency sine and random vibration tests performed on electrodynamic shaker facilities to comprise the mechanical-borne transmission loads through the launcher to spacecraft interface. Consequently, the paper reviews techniques and methodologies to derive a reliable and representative coupled virtual vibration testing simulation environment based on experimental data. These technologies are explored with the main objectives to ensure a stable, reliable and accurate control while testing. As a result, the use of the derived simulation models in combination with the added value of improved control and signal processing algorithms can lead to a safer and smoother vibration test control of the entire environmental test campaign.

  • A peer-to-peer model is very useful in solving the server link bottleneck problem of a client-server model. In this work, we discuss the problems of distributing multimedia content over peer-to-peer network. We focus on two problems in peer-to-peer media content distribution systems. The first is the transmission scheduling of the media data for a multi-source streaming session. We present a sophisticated scheduling scheme called fixed-length slotted scheduling, which results in minimum buffering delay. The second problem is on the fast distribution of media content in the peer-to-peer system that is self-growing. We propose a mechanism accelerating the speed at which the system's streaming ca-pacity increases, called FAST.

A Study of Selective Encryption for Images using Tree Structures (트리구조를 이용한 이미지의 선택적 암호화에 관한 연구)

  • The increased popularity of multimedia applications places a great demand on efficient data storage and transmission techniques. Some methods have been proposed to combine compression and encryption together to reduce the overall processing time, but they are either insecure or intensive computationally. specially, they are unsuitable to wireless communication of mobile device. We propose a novel solution called partial encryption, We introduce quadtree and zerotree wavelet image compression in this paper, it reduces computation for date transmission in mobile device, and does not reduce the compression rate. In conclusion, the proposed partial encryption schemes are fast, secure, and do not reduce the compression performance of underlying compression algorithm.
