  • An Estimation of VHF data link range for EW(Electronic Warfare) equipment in the sea environment was studied to predict the data link range between transmitting and receiving station. The theoretical estimation predicts within 3% error with actual measurement of VHF data link range at sea. Data link range factors including refraction and reflection are added in the basic wave propagation equation. The effect of refraction and reflection to the range is analysed with quantity level.

  • In this paper, through the example of international lunar exploration mission the equipment was to investigate, and the amount of data transferred per day were identified. Data storage and the data transfer rate (8.4Mbps less) for the satisfaction of the value within the range of available S and X bands was confirmed by using the communication link budget. The result is to define the range of the sensor information can be obtained, as well as from the values of the parameters calculated for the transmission communication systems will be able to define the specifications.

  • This paper proposes a low-power waveform for a long-range air-to-air data link. In the case of an air-to-air data link, data communication is performed in the air and high Doppler shift may occur depending on the flight speed, so a waveform based on the non-coherent method is suitable. In addition, since it is mounted on an aircraft, it must have low power characteristics. This paper proposes a waveform that combines a modulation technique based on frequency modulation and pulse position modulation that can turn on/off the transmission signal. As a result of the performance analysis, it was shown that the performance was suitable for air-to-air operation while showing low power characteristics.

  • The performance of satellite range measurement using tone method was analyzed in the presence of satellite link AWGN. The phase errors in range measurement are generated by AWGN of satellite up- and down-link and the degradations of satellite range measurement are dependent on the transmission mode and loop bandwidth of satellite measurement system. The analyzed effects for satellite measurement in presence of satellite link noise were also analyzed with the measured satellite range data via satellite range measurement system operating in satellite link AWGN. In RAU mode, the satellite range differences of 14.4 to 40.6 m were occurred according to the loop bandwidth of satellite range measurement system and the degradation of 0.3 dB compared with theoretical value was generated under condition of the signal-to-noise ratio of 43 dB. In RAU and TM mode, the performances of range measurement were approximately agreed to the that of RAU mode. In order to get the equal performance characteristics with RAU mode, the signal-to-noise ratio of satellite link for RAU and TM mode should be increased by signal power of 2.3 dB, which is a power loss due to transmission of telemetry signal.

  • In a Satellite communication system, a link budget analysis is the detailed investigation of signal gains and losses moving through a channel from a sender to receiver. It inspects the fading of passed on data signal waves due to the process of spreading or propagation, including transmitter and receiver antenna gains, feeder cables, and related losses. The extent of the proposed tool is to make an effective, efficient, and user-friendly approach to calculate link budget analysis. It is also related to the satellite communication correlation framework by building up a graphical interface link analysis tool utilizing STK® software with the interface of C# programming. It provides better kinds of graphical display techniques, exporting and importing data files, printing link information, access data, azimuth-elevation-range (AER), and simulation is also possible at once. The components of the link budget analysis tool include transmitter gain, effective isotropic radiated power (EIRP), free space loss, propagation loss, frequency Doppler shift, flux density, link margin, elevation plot, etc. This tool can be useful for amateur users (e.g., CubeSat developers in the universities) or nanosat developers who may not know about the RF communication system of the satellite and the orbital mechanics (e.g., orbit propagators) principle used in the satellite link analysis.

  • Fighter jets employ guided missiles equipped with seekers to counter enemy air threats. Short range guided missiles(SRM) usually carry infrared(IR) seekers and are used to engage targets within visual range. On the other hand, medium range guided missiles(MRM) often utilize radio frequency(RF) seekers to engage targets beyond visual range. Medium range guided missiles do not activate their seekers until they reach the detection range of the seeker, and the aircraft's radar guides them for a certain distance. This guidance method is called Missile Data Link(MDL), and it can be implemented in either one-way or two-way communication modes, depending on the missile's communication system. In this paper, we discuss MDL based on these two communication modes, along with the integration of RADAR, mission computers, and guided missiles.

  • In this paper, analyzed of UAVs operation altitude and range from the point of view of the data link. UAVs operation altitude is determined by the specification of the mission equipment and operational purposes. The link-of-sight analysis of data link equipment before deciding the unmanned aircraft operation altitude conditions should be considered. If GDT=0m installation then 32dBi antenna apply 15,779 meter is operation altitude. 44dBi antenna 7,927 meters. Operating altitude perspective, high-gain antenna is recommended of the long range communication.

  • As the trend of future war has been changed to network centric warfare, tactical data link should be needed for fast and accurate situation awareness. Nowadays, Korean air force conducts military operations by using aircrafts equipped with Link-16. The Link-16 can conduct multiple mission at the same time because it supports multi-net capability. Due to lack of frequency resource, the way to share the frequency with other systems has been studied and using L band with radar is considered as one of the candidates bands. However, the data link can be affected by the interference from radars when it shares the L-band because the L-band in Korea is already assigned to long-range detection radars. In this paper, we evaluate operational possibilities of tactical data link in the L-band based on Link-16.

  • This paper describes link analysis on the processed data, HRIT (High Rate Information Transmission) and LRIT (Low Rate Information Transmission), for the preliminary design of interface between COMS (Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite) and ground station. At the MODAC (MeteorologicaVOcean Data Application Center), the processed data are transmitted to user station via COMS with normalization and calibration by pre-processing of MI (Meteorological Imager) data. Due to consider satellite as radio relay, overall analysis containing uplink and downlink is needed. Specific link parameters can be obtained with using the outcomes of SRR (System Requirement Review) which was held on 13-14 June 2005, in Toulouse. From the relation between overall link margin and output power of HPA (High Power Amplifier) of MODAC, it is shown that even though the minimum power related with COMS receiving power range is transmitted at MODAC, the obtained link margin of HRIT could be above 3 dB at user station which antenna elevation angle is 10 degree.
