The advancement of Information Communication Technology has provided tourism researchers with a golden opportunity to access big data, which plays a critical role in smart tourism. Recognizing the current issue, this paper discusses the evolution of the literature on tourism big data focusing on conceptual understanding of and types of big data, and insights from big data analytics. Indeed, this article provides important research agenda for future tourism researchers who would like to conduct academic research about big data and smart tourism.
Destination marketing organizations (DMOs) utilize the official website for marketing and promotional purposes, while tourists often navigate through the official website to gather necessary information for their upcoming trips. With the advancement of business analytics, DMOs may need to exploit the clickstream data generated through their official website to develop more suitable and persuasive strategic marketing and promotional activities. As such, the primary objective of the current study is to show whether clickstream data can successfully identify the trip purposes of a particular user. Using a latent class analysis and multinomial logistic regression, this study found the meaningful and statistically significant variations in webpage visits among different trip purpose groups (e.g., weekend getaways, day-trippers, and other purposes). The findings of this study would provide a foundation for more data-centric destination marketing and management practice.

This study aims to address the literature gap by examining the direct relationship between big data analytics capability, marketing innovation, and organizational innovations. Additionally, this study would examine big data analytics capability as the antecedent for both innovation types and how these relationships influence firm performance. The research model is developed based on the integration of resource-based view and knowledge-based view theories. The quantitative method is used as the research methodology for this study. Based on a purposive sampling method, a total of 115 questionnaires were obtained from managers in star-rated hotels located in Malaysia. Partial least square structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) is utilized for the data analysis. The result shows that big data analytics capability positively affects marketing and organizational innovations. The findings show that big data analytics capability and organizational innovation positively influence firm performance. Nonetheless, the result revealed that marketing innovation is not positively related to firm performance. The findings also indicate to hotel managers the importance of big data analytic capability and the resources required to build and develop this capability. The contributions from this study enrich the literature on big data and innovation, which is particularly limited in the hospitality and tourism context.
Recently, data analysis technology through artificial intelligence is attracting major attention in various industrial fields. In addition, with the increase in personal income, nowadays, the importance of heterogeneous leisure life is becoming more prominent. However, there is a problem that the tourism industry is not out of the traditional service framework. For the ultimate development of the tourism industry, it is time to provide more scientific and systematic tourism services. In this paper, various data analysis techniques in the field of computer science are applied to the field of tourism to realize next generation tourism services. To this end, the scope of this study is limited to the aviation service, and a natural ecosystem of the aviation industry for future-oriented services of aviation tourism that can improve the efficiency of aviation service gradually is established. The proposed method effectively solves the problems of traditional aviation services through data analysis techniques with artificial intelligence techniques in computer science. We expect that it will enhance the customized satisfaction of customers through personalized service and foster loyal customers in aviation companies through the method proposed.

This review paper aims at providing a systematic analysis of articles published in various journals and related to the uses and business applications of big data. The goal is to provide a holistic picture of the place of big data in the tourism industry. The reviewed articles have been selected for the period 2013-2020 and have been classified into 8 broad categories namely business strategy and firm performance; banking and finance; healthcare; hospitality; networks and telecommunications; urbanism and infrastructures; law and legal regulations; and government. While the categories are reflective of components of tourism industries and infrastructures, the meta-analysis is organized around 3 broad themes: preferred research contexts, conceptual developments, and methods used to research big data business applications. Main findings revealed that firm performance and healthcare remain popular contexts of research in the big data realm, but also demonstrated a prominence of qualitative methods over mixed and quantitative methods for the period 2013-2020. Scholars have also investigated topics involving the notions of competitive advantage, supply chain management, smart cities, but also ethics and privacy issues as related to the use of big data.
The objective of this study was to acquire a general and text-based awareness and recognition of cruise food hygiene through big data analytics. For the purpose, this study collected data with conducting the keyword "food hygiene, cruise" on the web pages and news on Google, during October 1st, 2015 to October 1st, 2017 (two years). The data collection was processed by SCTM which is a data collecting and processing program and eventually, 899 kb, approximately 20,000 words were collected. For the data analysis, UCINET 6.0 packaged with visualization tool-Netdraw was utilized. As a result of the data analysis, the words such as jobs, news, showed the high frequency while the results of centrality (Freeman's degree centrality and Eigenvector centrality) and proximity indicated the distinct rank with the frequency. Meanwhile, as for the result of CONCOR analysis, 4 segmentations were created as "food hygiene group", "person group", "location related group" and "brand group". The diagnosis of this study for the food hygiene in cruise industry through big data is expected to provide instrumental implications both for academia research and empirical application.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases were first reported in December 2019, in China, and an increasing number of cases have since been detected all over the world. The purpose of this study was to collect significant news media reports on food services during the COVID-19 crisis and identify public communication and significant concerns regarding COVID-19 for suggesting future directions for the food industry and services. SUBJECTS/METHODS: News articles pertaining to food services were extracted from the home pages of major news media websites such as BBC, CNN, and Fox News between March 2020 and February 2021. The retrieved data was sorted and analyzed using Python software. RESULTS: The results of text analytics were presented in the format of the topic label and category for individual topics. The food and health category presented the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on food and health, such as an increase in delivery services. The policy category was indicative of a change in government policy. The lifestyle change category addressed topics such as an increase in social media usage. CONCLUSIONS: This study is the first to analyze major news media (i.e., BBC, CNN, and Fox News) data related to food services in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Text analytics research on the food services domain revealed different categories such as food and health, policy, and lifestyle change. Therefore, this study contributes to the body of knowledge on food services research, through the use of text analytics to elicit findings from media sources.
The purpose of this study was to compare the cruise tours between China and U.S.A. through the semantic network analysis of big data by collecting online data with SCTM (Smart crawling & Text mining), a data collecting and processing program. The data analysis period was from January $1^{st}$, 2015 to August $15^{th}$, 2017, meanwhile, "cruise tour, china", "cruise tour, usa" were conducted to be as keywords to collet related data and packaged Netdraw along with UCINET 6.0 were utilized for data analysis. Currently, Chinese cruisers concern on the cruising destinations while American cruisers pay more attention on the onboard experience and cruising expenditure. After performing CONCOR (convergence of iterated correlation) analysis, for Chinese cruise tour, there were three clusters created with domestic destinations, international destinations and hospitality tourism. As for American cruise tour, four groups have been segmented with cruise expenditure, onboard experience, cruise brand and destinations. Since the cruise tourism of America was greatly developed, this study also was supposed to provide significant and social network-oriented suggestions for Chinese cruise tourism.
