  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of the elastic band on ballet arabesque based on kinematics analysis. Methods : To observe the effect of the elastic band, the availability of the elastic band during movement was set as the independent variable, and the dependent variables were set by using factors from two different categories such as motor mechanics and kinematics variables. For motor mechanics variable, the muscle activity and the center of pressure(COP)'s trajectory and velocity were used. Furthermore, the physical angle was used for kinematic variables. Data samples from the experiment was used to understand the correlation between independent and dependent variables while using paired samples t-test as a data analysis tool. Results : After analyzing the result of experiment, the usage of the Elastic band on ballet arabesque movement seemed to increase the activity of the agonistic muscle, which is mainly used for movement, and to improve the stability of the supporting leg by decreasing the trajectory and velocity of the center of pressure(COP). Moreover, the elastic band increased the level of elevation of the stretching leg with reducing the angle of the hip joint that resulted into a more stable movement and furthermore providing more beauty while standing on it. Conclusion : The movement training program while the using elastic band are expected to lead to appropriate muscular development and reduce the muscle imbalance, which usually occurs to dancers, during training with unfamiliar specific movements or strengthening muscular strength for a specific movement. In addition, this work is expected to be used as a training reference to understand and learn the fundamentals of movements of ballet and other dance fields.

  • Currently, there is a lack of research that directly applies and integrates science and technology in the field of dance and translates it into creative work. In this study, the researcher applied motion capture to creative dance performance 'Youth' and described the process of incorporating motion capture into scenes for the performance. The research method involved utilizing practice-based research, which derives new knowledge and meaning from creative outcomes through the analysis of phenomena and experiences generated on-site. The creative ballet performance "<Youth>" consists of a total of 4 scenes, and the motion-captured video in these scenes serves as the highlight moments. It visually represents the image of a past ballerina while embodying the meaning of a scene that is both the 'past me' and the 'dream of the present.' The use of motion capture enhances the visual representation of the scenes and plays a role in increasing the audience's immersion. The dance field needs to become familiar with collaborating with scientific and technological advancements like motion capture to digitize intangible assets. It is essential to engage in experimental endeavors and continue training for such collaborations. Furthermore, through collaboration, the ongoing research should extend the scope of movement through digitized processes, performances, and performance records. This will continually confer value and meaning to the field of dance

  • In the creation of non-verbal dance performance, stage costumes are an important element of visual expression and serve an expanded role in addition to its fundamental decorativeness, representation of status reflective of the historical setting of the act and functionality for the dance movement. We intends that the purpose of this research is to analyze the expanded role of the costumes in the creative ballet <'That' Girl>, and through this exercise, provide foundational data on and suggest new future directions for stage costume design. <'That' Girl> is composed of two acts, offering condolences and eliciting empathy by conveying the fear experienced by the victims of the time. The second dance act representing freedom and "Haan" requires this expanded application of costume design. The costume design was inspired by the "Statue of Peace" representing comfort women, and completed through three draft designs and material experiments testing the ease of operation of the strings and fabrics installed in the costumes as well as the functionality of the associated ballet movements. In conclusion, expansion of time & space, expansion of form and expansion of symbolic expression were shown in the dance of liberation using strings wrapped around the arms and through the cloth embodying 'Haan' hidden in front of the costume.

  • The performance-art costume is a tool for expression that can dynamically display the intention of a production. The purpose of this study is to examine the whole costume for performance arts targeting musical works, to which were added such elements as music, dance, and drama, among performance arts in several genres. This study aims to consider how the symbol contained in the costume was intended to be expressed by inferring a change in performance costume and character as the stage costume. Accordingly, the following research problems were established in this study. First, Which role does the costume play in performance art? Second, into which types can the performance-art costume be classified depending on the kind of performance art? Third, what is the expressive method for the performance-art costume? To examine the types of performance-art costume, the acting costume, the singing costume, the dancing costume and the rhythmic performance costume were considered. As a result, the performance costume can be seen to have been designed through the effect of a change in color by lighting, through the differentiation of character caused by excessive decoration, through the differentiation in material for free movement, and through symbolic expression.
