Dynamic Characteristic Analyses of a Bearingless Helicopter Rotor System (무베어링 헬리콥터 로터 시스템의 동특성 해석)

  • Recently, KARI(Korea Aerospace Research Institute) has been developing a modern 11.5 m diameter four bladed bearingless main rotor system, and this rotor system can be used for 7,000 lb class helicopter. Flexbeam and torque tube can be considered as key structural components, and large elastic twist of flexbeam induced by pitch control motion of torque tube can influence the nonlinear aeroelastic behavior. In this paper, the dynamic characteristic analysis results of bearingless rotor system were presented. In order to construct a input model and validate the analysis procedures, calculated results using the comprehensive helicopter analysis program CAMRAD II were compared with the measured natural frequencies and lag damping data from small-scale wind tunnel test. Next, the analysis model was extended to a full-scale model, and the dynamic analysis results were presented.

  • Human beings usually absorb a shock from terrain during walking through the damping effects of joints, muscles and skin. With this analogy, a robot-leg with a shock absorber is built to absorb the impact forces at its foot during high-speed walking on irregular terrain. To control the hip position while walking, the dynamic controller suitable for high speed walking is designed and implemented based on a dynamic model by Kane's equation. The hip position tracking performances of various controllers (PID controller, computed torque controller and feedforward torque controller) are compared through the experiments of the real robot-leg.

  • In the feed drive systems or the spindle systems of machine tools that consist of many mechanical components, a torsional vibration is often generated because of its elastic elements in torque transmission-Generally, the accuracy of motion control system is strongly influenced by the dynamic behavior of coupled transmission components Especially, a torsional vibration caused by the elasticity of mechanical elements might deteriorate the quick movement of system and lead to shorten the life time of the mechanical transmission elements. So, it is necessary to analyze the electromechanical system mathematically to optimize the dynamic characteristics of the feed m1d spindle system. In this paper, based on the DC motor model, a model of electro-drive system with motor has been developed and an optimal criterion for tuning the gain of speed controller is discussed. The frequency bandwidth of the system and the damping ratio in time domain are optimal design specifications for the gain adjustment speed controller. The gains of PI speed controller are then derived from the bandwidth and damping ratio, and those relationships have been classified.

  • Unified power flow controller (UPFC) is the most reliable device in the FACTS concept. It has the ability to adjust all three control parameters effective in power flow and voltage stability. In this paper, a linearized model of a power system installed with a UPFC has been presented. UPFC has four control loops that by adding an extra signal to one of them, increases dynamic stability and load angle oscillations are damped. In this paper, after open loop eigenvalue (electro mechanical mode) calculations, state-space equations have been used to design damping controller and it has been considered to influence active and reactive power flow durations as the input of damping controller, in addition to the common speed duration of synchronous generators as input damper signal. To increase stability, further Lead-Lag and LQR controllers, a novel on-line adaptive controller has been used analytically to identify power system parameters. Closed-loop calculations of the electro mechanical mode verify the improvement of system pole placement after controller designing. Suitable operation of adaptive controller to decrease rotor speed oscillations against input mechanical torque disturbances is confirmed by the simulation results.

Development and performance evaluation of lateral control simulation-based multi-body dynamics model for autonomous agricultural tractor

  • In this study, we developed a dynamic model and steering controller model for an autonomous tractor and evaluated their performance. The traction force was measured using a 6-component load cell, and the rotational speed of the wheels was monitored using proximity sensors installed on the axles. Torque sensors were employed to measure the axle torque. The PI (proportional integral) controller's coefficients were determined using the trial-error method. The coefficient of the P varied in the range of 0.1 - 0.5 and the I coefficient was determined in 3 increments of 0.01, 0.05, and 0.1. To validate the simulation model, we conducted RMS (root mean square) comparisons between the measured data of axle torque and the simulation results. The performance of the steering controller model was evaluated by analyzing the damping ratio calculated with the first and second overshoots. The average front and rear axle torque ranged from 3.29 - 3.44 and 6.98 - 7.41 kNm, respectively. The average rotational speed of the wheel ranged from 29.21 - 30.55 rpm at the front, and from 21.46 - 21.63 rpm at the rear. The steering controller model exhibited the most stable control performance when the coefficients of P and I were set at 0.5 and 0.01, respectively. The RMS analysis of the axle torque results indicated that the left and right wheel errors were approximately 1.52% and 2.61% (at front) and 7.45% and 7.28% (at rear), respectively.

  • This paper presents the design study of a rotary MRF(Magneto-Rheological Fluid) damper that can be conveniently used in the joints to control the damping torques. The basic design concept is to determine the geometric design variables allowing the magnetic flux to flow across the same sectional areas under volume constraint condition. The effects of each design variables for generating the torques were investigated by magnetic field analyses.

  • The propulsion marine diesel engine has been widely applied with a mechanical-hydraulic governor to control the ship speed for long time. But it was recently very difficult for the mechanical-hydraullic governor to control the speed of engine under the condition of low speed and low load because of jiggling and hunting by rough fluctuation of rotating torque. To solve these problems of control systems, the performance improvement of mechanical-hydraulic governor is required. In this paper, in order to analyze the speed stability of control systems, the influence of parameters of the engine dead time, gain, damping ratio was discussed on the view of control engineering. The performance improvement of a conventional mechanical hydraulic governor is confirmed to be possible by fuzzy control scheme.

  • In this study, we tried to investigate the impedance characteristic of human arm in a cooperative task. Human arm was moved in a desired trajectory. The motion was actuated by a 1 degree-of-freedom robot system. As the muscle is mechanically analogous to a spring-damper system, a second-order equation was considered as the model for arm dynamics. In the model, inertia, stiffness and damping factor were considered. The impedance parameter was estimated from the position and torque data obtained from the experiment and based on the "Estimation of Parametric Model".   • In this paper, a new control scheme for master-slave control of telerobot is proposed. The porposed method can be classified into unilater master-slave control methods in the aspect of the data flow. But the master arm in the proposed control scheme can deliver operator the similar kinesthetic sense as other bilateral force reflecting master arms do. The principle concept is that the sensed operator's force/torque is used as the reference input for a damping controller type of telerobot controller which track the operators efforts. Master arm and master controller can be implemented in a simple form, and it needs not be driven by actuators, but force sensing capability.

  • In this study, an robust adaptive backstepping controller is proposed for the speed control of separately excited DC motor with uncertainties and disturbances. Armature and field resistance, damping coefficient and load torque are considered as uncertainties and noise generated at applying load torque to motor is also considered. It shows that the backstepping algorithm can be used to solve the problems of nonlinear system very well and robust controller can be designed without the variation of adaptive law. Simulation and experiment results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller in the future.
