확률밀도함수를 이용한 멤브레인방식 LNG탱크의 선형누적손상도 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Evaluation of Linear Cumulative Damage Factor of Membrane Type LNG Tank by use of Probability Density Function)

  • The estimation of fatigue life at the design stage of membrane type LNG tank is very important in order to arrive at feasible and cost effective solutions considering the total lifetime of the tank. In this study, the practical procedure of fatigue life prediction by use of cumulative damage factors based on Miner-Palmgren hypothesis and probability density function has been shown with the corner region of Gaz Transport Membrane type LNG tank being used as an example. In particular the parameters of Weibull distribution that determine the stress spectrum are discussed. The main results obtained from this study are as follows: 1. The recommended value for the shape parameter of Weibull distribution for the LNG tank is 1.1 in case of using the direct calculation method proposed in this study. 2. The calculated fatigue life is influenced by the shape parameter of Weibull distribution and stress block. The safe fatigue design can be achieved by using higher value of shape parameter and the stress blocks divided into more stress blocks.

  • 울산, 여주 등 산업단지의 고압매설배관에서 발생할 수 있는 굴착공사 등 타 공사로 인한 중대사고의 발생빈도를 도시가스 매설 배관과 비교하여 FTA에 의해 기초사상(Basic event)을 도출하여 제시한다. 또한 굴착빈도, 순찰주기 등 배관손상 영향 인자를 관찰 및 분석하고, 이들 인자의 중요도와 민감도를 Risk 비교분석을 통해 구해봄으로써 고압가스매설배관의 안전성 향상에 기여한다.

On-line integration of structural identification/damage detection and structural reliability evaluation of stochastic building structures

  • Recently, some integrated structural identification/damage detection and reliability evaluation of structures with uncertainties have been proposed. However, these techniques are applicable for off-line synthesis of structural identification and reliability evaluation. In this paper, based on the recursive formulation of the extended Kalman filter, an on-line integration of structural identification/damage detection and reliability evaluation of stochastic building structures is investigated. Structural limit state is expanded by the Taylor series in terms of uncertain variables to obtain the probability density function (PDF). Both structural component reliability with only one limit state function and system reliability with multi-limit state functions are studied. Then, it is extended to adopt the recent extended Kalman filter with unknown input (EKF-UI) proposed by the authors for on-line integration of structural identification/damage detection and structural reliability evaluation of stochastic building structures subject to unknown excitations. Numerical examples are used to demonstrate the proposed method. The evaluated results of structural component reliability and structural system reliability are compared with those by the Monte Carlo simulation to validate the performances of the proposed method.

  • Modern aircraft composite structures are designed using a damage tolerance philosophy. This design philosophy envisions sufficient strength and structural integrity of the aircraft to sustain major damage and to avoid catastrophic failure. The only reasonable way to treat on the same basis all the conditions and uncertainties participating in the design of damage tolerant composite aircraft structures is to use the probability-based approach. Therefore, the model has been developed to assess the probability of structural failure (POSF) and associated risk taking into account the random mechanical loads, random temperature-humidity conditions, conditions causing damages, as well as structural strength variations due to intrinsic strength scatter, manufacturing defects, operational damages, temperature-humidity conditions. The model enables engineers to establish the relationship between static/residual strength safety margins, production quality control requirements, in-service inspection resolution and criteria, and POSF. This make possible to estimate the cost associated with the mentioned factors and to use this cost as overall criterion. The methodology has been programmed into software.

경사제 피복재의 유지관리를 위한 추계학적 Markov 확률모형의 개발 (Development of Stochastic Markov Process Model for Maintenance of Armor Units of Rubble-Mound Breakwaters)

  • 경사제 피복재의 시간에 따른 파괴확률을 산정할 수 있는 추계학적 Markov 확률모형을 개발하였다. 하중발생에 대한 CP/RP 해석과 누적피해사건에 대한 DP 해석을 결합하여 수학적 모형을 수립하고 경사제 피복재에 적용하였다. 피복재의 피해수준에 대한 정의와 MCS 기법을 이용하여 이행확률을 산정하고 분석하였다. 산정된 이행확률들은 확률적으로나 물리적으로 만족해야하는 제약조건들을 잘 충족한다. 또한 경사제 피복재의 설계와 관련하여 중요한 변수로 생각되는 재현기간 및 안전율의 변화에 따른 시간 의존 파괴확률을 산정하여 그 거동 특성을 자세히 비교 분석하였다. 특히 시간 의존 파괴확률이 이전단계의 피해수준에 의해 어떻게 달라지는지를 정량적으로 해석할 수 있었다. 마지막으로 유지관리에서 가장 중요한 보수보강 시점을 결정할 수 있는 두 가지 접근방법을 제시하고 경제성 분석을 포함한 다양한 해석이 수행되었다.

Development of an Accident Sequence Precursor Methodology and its Application to Significant Accident Precursors

  • The systematic management of plant risk is crucial for enhancing the safety of nuclear power plants and for designing new nuclear power plants. Accident sequence precursor (ASP) analysis may be able to provide risk significance of operational experience by using probabilistic risk assessment to evaluate an operational event quantitatively in terms of its impact on core damage. In this study, an ASP methodology for two operation mode, full power and low power/shutdown operation, has been developed and applied to significant accident precursors that may occur during the operation of nuclear power plants. Two operational events, loss of feedwater and steam generator tube rupture, are identified as ASPs. Therefore, the ASP methodology developed in this study may contribute to identifying plant risk significance as well as to enhancing the safety of nuclear power plants by applying this methodology systematically.

증기운 폭발이 인체에 미치는 영향에 대한 확률론적 평가 (Probabilistic Assesment of the Effects of Vapor Cloud Explosion on a Human Body)

  • 본 연구에서는 멕시코시티 외곽에 있는 프로판 저장기지인 PEMIX 터미널에서 발생한 프로판 누출에 따른 증기운 폭발을 분석하였다. 누출된 4750 kg의 프로판에 대한 TNT 등가량은 9398 kg으로 평가되었다. 폭원으로부터 40~400 (m) 떨어진 지점에서의 최대과압, 양의 압력 지속시간, 충격량과 같은 폭발변수를 TNT 등가법과 다중에너지법을 적용하여 구하였다. 폭발 변수들을 이용하여 구한 프로빗 함수를 적용하여 폐 손상, 고막 파열, 머리 충격, 전신 전위 충격으로 인한 손상 확률을 평가하였다. 고려한 모든 거리에서 다중에너지법을 이용하여 구한 최대과압이 TNT 등가법을 적용하여 구한 최대과압보다 큰 것으로 나타났으나, 200 m 이후 지점부터는 큰 차이가 없는 것으로 평가되었다. 다중에너지법에 의해 구해진 최대과압을 적용하여 구조물 손상 범위를 평가한 결과 폭원으로부터 100 m 이내에 있는 구조물의 경우 완전히 붕괴될 것으로 예측되고, 400 m 떨어진 구조물의 유리창도 거의 파손될 것으로 추정되었다. 폐 손상에 의한 사망 확률은 충격파 진행방향으로 위치하고 있는 인체의 자세에 따라 달라지는 것으로 나타났으며, 인체 주변에 반사면이 있는 경우 사망 확률이 가장 큰 것으로 평가되었다. 충격파가 폐 손상, 고막 파열, 머리 충격, 전신 전위 충격에 미치는 영향을 평가한 결과 전신 전위 충격 < 폐 손상 < 고막파열 < 머리 충격 순으로 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

Seismic performance-based optimal design approach for structures equipped with SATMDs

  • This paper introduces a novel, rigorous, and efficient probabilistic methodology for the performance-based optimal design (PBOD) of semi-active tuned mass damper (SATMD) for seismically excited nonlinear structures. The proposed methodology is consistent with the modern performance-based earthquake engineering framework and aims to design reliable control systems. To this end, an optimization problem has been defined which considers the parameters of control systems as design variables and minimization of the probability of exceeding a targeted structural performance level during the lifetime as an objective function with a constraint on the failure probability of stroke length damage state associated with mass damper mechanism. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is illustrated through a numerical example of performance analysis of an eight-story nonlinear shear building frame with hysteretic bilinear behavior. The SATMD with variable stiffness and damping have been designed separately with different mass ratios. Their performance has been compared with that of uncontrolled structure and the structure controlled with passive TMD in terms of probabilistic demand curves, response hazard curves, fragility curves, and exceedance probability of performance levels during the lifetime. Numerical results show the effectiveness, simplicity, and reliability of the proposed PBOD method in designing SATMD with variable stiffness and damping for the nonlinear frames where they have reduced the exceedance probability of the structure up to 49% and 44%, respectively.

Development of a novel fatigue damage model for Gaussian wide band stress responses using numerical approximation methods

  • A significant development has been made on a new fatigue damage model applicable to Gaussian wide band stress response spectra using numerical approximation methods such as data processing, time simulation, and regression analysis. So far, most of the alternative approximate models provide slightly underestimated or overestimated damage results compared with the rain-flow counting distribution. A more reliable approximate model that can minimize the damage differences between exact and approximate solutions is required for the practical design of ships and offshore structures. The present paper provides a detailed description of the development process of a new fatigue damage model. Based on the principle of the Gaussian wide band model, this study aims to develop the best approximate fatigue damage model. To obtain highly accurate damage distributions, this study deals with some prominent research findings, i.e., the moment of rain-flow range distribution MRR(n), the special bandwidth parameter μk, the empirical closed form model consisting of four probability density functions, and the correction factor QC. Sequential prerequisite data processes, such as creation of various stress spectra, extraction of stress time history, and the rain-flow counting stress process, are conducted so that these research findings provide much better results. Through comparison studies, the proposed model shows more reliable and accurate damage distributions, very close to those of the rain-flow counting solution. Several significant achievements and findings obtained from this study are suggested. Further work is needed to apply the new developed model to crack growth prediction under a random stress process in view of the engineering critical assessment of offshore structures. The present developed formulation and procedure also need to be extended to non-Gaussian wide band processes.

개선된 확률밀도함수 적용을 통한 빈도별 적설심 산정 (Probable annual maximum of daily snowfall using improved probability distribution)

  • 우리나라도 최근 들어 과거 눈이 거의 내리지 않던 지역에 폭설이 내리거나 대설에 의한 인명피해가 발생하는 등의 대설 피해가 발생하며, 대설 및 설해 피해에 대한 관심이 증가하고 있다. 그러므로 자연재해저감 종합계획에 대설에 의한 설해 대비를 포함하는 등의 정책적인 변화가 생겼으나, 우리나라는 그동안 대설 피해가 많지 않았었기 때문에 대설이나 적설 자료의 특성에 대한 연구를 다양한 각도에서 수행한 적이 거의 없다. 우리나라의 적설자료는 강우자료와 특성이 다른 경우가 많다. 예를 들어, 우리나라 남해안 일부 지역은 연중 눈이 한 번도 내리지 않는 경우가 다수 있어, 연최대치계열 자료 중에 값이 없는 경우가 빈번히 존재한다. 이에 0이 다수 포함된 자료의 빈도해석을 위해 조건부결합확률분포를 이용하여 확률 밀도함수를 선정하는 방법을 적용하였다. 그 결과 기본 방법에 비해 적합도가 더 높은 확률밀도함수를 구할 수 있었으며, 100년 빈도 이상의 긴 재현기간에서 기존 방법에 비해 대체로 적설심이 작아지는 경향을 보였다. 본 연구에서는 본 연구에서는 0이 다수 포함된 자료의 빈도해석을 위해 조건부결합확률분포를 제안한 선행연구를 적용하여 우리나라 전국의 적설 관측지점에 대한 빈도해석을 수행하고, 그 결과를 설계에 사용되는 값들과 비교하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 향후 수문학적 적용을 위한 적설자료의 관측 및 분석 방법에 대한 세부적인 기준 마련을 위한 기초자료로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
