Evaluation of N2 method for damage estimation of MDOF systems

  • Methods based on nonlinear static analysis as simple tools could be used for the seismic analysis and assessment of structures. In the present study, capability of the N2 method as a well-known nonlinear analysis procedure examines for the estimation of the damage index of multi-storey reinforced concrete frames. In the implemented framework, equivalent single-degree-of-freedom (SDOF) models are utilized for the global damage estimation of multi-degree-of-freedom (MDOF) systems. This method does not require high computational analysis and subsequently decreases the required time of seismic design and assessment process. To develop the methodology, RC frames with period range from 0.4 to 2.0 s under 40 records are studied. The effectiveness of proposed technique is evaluated through numerical study under near- and far-field earthquake ground motions. Finally, the results of developed models are compared with two other simplified schemes along with nonlinear time history analysis results of multi-storey frames. To improve the accuracy of damage estimation, a modified relation is presented based on the N2 method results for near- and far-field earthquakes.

설계 민감도 해석을 활용한 피로 손상도 예측방법 (Fatigue Damage Prediction Using Design Sensitivity Analysis)

  • It was previously suggested the design sensitivity analysis based on transmissibility function to identify the most sensitive response location over a small design modification. On the other hand, energy isoclines were used to predict the fatigue damage with acceleration response only. Both of previous studies commonly tackle the engineering problem using the acceleration response alone such that it may be possible to investigate the relationship between sensitivity analysis and accumulated fatigue damage. In this paper, it is suggested the novel method of vibration fatigue prediction using design sensitivity analysis to enhance the accuracy of predicted accumulated fatigue. Uni-axial vibration testing is performed with a simple notched specimen and the prediction of fatigue damage is conducted using accelerations measured at different locations. It can be concluded that the accuracy of predicted fatigue damage is proportional to the sensitivity index of the responsible location.

Collision-Damage Analysis of a Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Considering Ship-Collision Risk

  • As the number of offshore wind-power installations increases, collision accidents with vessels occur more frequently. This study investigates the risk of collision damage with operating vessels that may occur during the operation of an offshore wind turbine. The floater used in the collision study is a 15 MW UMaine VolturnUS-S (semi-submersible type), and the colliding ships are selected as multi-purpose vessels, service operation vessels, or anchor-handling tug ships based on their operational purpose. Collision analysis is performed using ABAQUS and substantiation is performed via a drop impact test. The collision analyses are conducted by varying the ship velocity, displacement, collision angle, and ship shape. By applying this numerical model, the extent of damage and deformation of the collision area is confirmed. The analysis results show that a vessel with a bulbous bow can cause flooding, depending on the collision conditions. For damage caused by collision, various collision angles must be considered based on the internal stiffener arrangement. Additionally, the floater can be flooded with relatively small collision energy when the colliding vessel has a bulbous bow.

노인들의 건강식품 관련 문제 경험에 대한 대응 행동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Reaction towards Damage Related to Health Foods among the Elderly)

  • This study examined the level of reaction towards damage related to health foods and the factors affecting this reaction among the elderly. Data were collected from 269 elderly individuals living in Seoul, Daejeon, Daegu, Gwangju and Busan. Frequencies, chi-square tests, and a multinomial logistic regression analysis were performed using the SPSS v. 14.0 program. When asked about their reaction towards damage related to health foods, approximately 48% of the respondents answered 'no response', 34% answered 'private response', and 18% answered 'public response'. Multinomial logistic regression analysis revealed that education level and awareness of health food price were significant factors influencing 'private response', and concerns about health foods and awareness of damage redemption were significant factors for 'public response'. These results imply that consumer education for elderly to prevent damage derived from the purchase and consumption of health foods is required.

교량케이블 영상기반 손상탐지 (A Vision-based Damage Detection for Bridge Cables)

  • This study presents an effective vision-based system for cable bridge damage detection. In theory, cable bridges need to be inspected the outer as well as the inner part. Starting from August 2010, a new research project supported by Korea Ministry of Land, Transportation Maritime Affairs(MLTM) was initiated focusing on the damage detection of cable system. In this study, only the surface damage detection algorithm based on a vision-based system will be focused on, an overview of the vision-based cable damage detection is given in Fig. 1. Basically, the algorithm combines the image enhancement technique with principal component analysis(PCA) to detect damage on cable surfaces. In more detail, the input image from a camera is processed with image enhancement technique to improve image quality, and then it is projected into PCA sub-space. Finally, the Mahalanobis square distance is used for pattern recognition. The algorithm was verified through laboratory tests on three types of cable surface. The algorithm gave very good results, and the next step of this study is to implement the algorithm for real cable bridges.

  • There are many reasons of damage in Namhansanseong Yeojang. Lots of damage types are observed in each Yeojang. There are many types of damage factors but major damage factor is breakage by freezing and thawing. So Conduct non-destructive evaluation about damage factors in Namhansanseong Yeojang to analysis weathering factors in Yeojang by measuring directional microclimate. The study will pave the way for conservation management in Namhansanseong by suggesting the conservation calendar about weather condition and damage factors.

Free Radical Involvement in the DNA Damaging Activity of Fumonisin Bl

  • Fumonisin B1, a mycotoxin, is thought to induce esophageal cancer in humans and apoptosis in animal cells by inhibiting ceramide synthase. Dumonisin Bl may also generate reactive oxygen species directly or indirectly, leading to DNA damage and lipid peroxidation. In this study, a DNA fragmentation assay, dichlorofluorescein (DCF) analysis, and single cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE) were used to investigate the involvement of cellular free radicals, specifically hydrogen peroxide, in the DNA damaging activity of fumonisin B1. From an in vitro DNA fragmentation assay, E. coli DNA, damage by fumonisin Bl was increased by the addition of superxide dismutase (SOD) and decreased by catalase. SCGE and DCF analysis in vivo showed that the nuclear DNA damage and intracellular free radicals in cultured rat hepatocytes treated with fumonisin B1 were increased with the concentration of fumonisin Bl . DNA damage and free radical generation were inhibited by the addition of catalase. Fumonisin Bl , in the presence of SOD, produces hydrogen peroxide causing oxidative DNA damage and protein malfunction, leading to genotoxicity and cytotoxicity of the toxin.

  • A practical damage identification scheme for PS concrete bridges via modal testing and system identification (SID) procedures is presented. The potential damage types are classified and the possible approaches which can be implemented into each damage type are designed. Damage identification algorithms are developed on the basis of the SID and modal analysis. The feasibility of the algorithms is verified from experimental tests to detect damage in PS concrete beam structures.

  • Seismic damage assessment program for containment structure is developed. The program has been established through the combination of inelastic seismic analysis program and 3-D animation program. Damage indices at finite element level and structural level have been introduced for the seismic damage assessment. The seismic damage assessment program makes it possible to analyze in real-time the actual resistance capacity and damage level of containment structure. It will be expected that the program enables to establish the measures more quickly under the earthquake event.

스마트 팜을 위한 UAS 모니터링의 자연재해 작물 피해 분석 (Analysis of Crop Damage Caused by Natural Disasters in UAS Monitoring for Smart Farm)

  • 최근 다양한 센서 및 정보통신 기술(ICT: Information & Communications Technology)을 융합·활용한 스마트 팜을 위한 UAS (Unmanned Aerial System)의 활용성이 기대되고 있다. 특히, 다양한 지수를 통한 실외 작물 모니터링 방안으로 효용성이 입증되며 여러 분야에서 연구되고 있다. 본 연구는 벼를 대상으로 자연재해 작물 피해를 분석하고 피해량을 계측하는 것이다. 이를 위해, BG-NIR (Blue Green_near Infrared red) 및 RGB 센서를 통해 데이터를 획득하고 영상해석 및 NDWI (Normalized Difference Water Index) 지수를 활용하여 장마에 의한 작물 피해를 검토한다. 또한, 영상해석 기반 포인트 클라우드 데이터를 생성, 인스펙션 맵을 통해 태풍 전·후 데이터를 비교하여 피해량을 계측한다. 연구결과, NDWI 지수 분석을 통해 벼의 생장 및 장마 피해를 검토하였고, 인스펙션 맵 분석으로 태풍에 의한 피해 면적을 계측하였다.
